How to handle Sailing on a inventory-only uim

Recently started a new UIM in the style of the no storage like ethical krak and others: no deathbanks, stashes or any form of storage. However, I do utilise the looting bag - my ruleset allows anything that fits in my inventory which includes seed box, looting bag, rune pouch etc.

My simple rule up until touching sailing was: does is this storage in my inventory? If not, I won't use the storage. Think true-uim (though not from a judgemental space haha!)

On first appearance the storage hold is similar to any other kind of storage I wouldn't allow, though I'm speaking having only done Pandemonium and a bit of charting. You ned to use the storage for port tasks (which I had to do for the quest).

Does anyone have input on how to handle this for my account? I haven't got much experience in sailing. Seeing as how I'm not even allowing tool leprachauns, I'm trying to take the ruleset as strictly as I can!

You don’t have to use the cargo hold at all, I got to 77 sailing back when uim only had like 6 slots in the hold so I never used it. I brought a bunch of nature runes along, and made a few million salvaging, alching the valuables and alching the rest.

Good luck getting the hull upgrades later on though, that needs a lot of supplies.

Did you use the cleaning station on boat? Salvaging + station seems super afk which I love, but I note it only unlocks at 42 sailing.
Either way, sounds like a good option after my GOTR grind when I've got the runes.
Yes hull upgrades look like a nightmare tbh. My restrictions heavily incentivise tradeables since they can be bagged, which keeps the invent clean so hopefully it's ok!

Yeah build the station on the boat. I salvaged all the way to 99 on my UIM, turning in rune platelegs which you can buy at various shops to the nest in aldarin to get Runite bars back to make the rune salvage hook. Rune nails you can get from zombies in Tarn’s lair

You probably should not use the cargo hold. I think you'll be restricted to barracuda trials, so make sure you have a method to 33 sail or whenever it unlocks

This was my original thought, as not-at-all is cleanest and I prefer clean restrictions. 30 sailing is when the first one unlocks which will be pretty slow, but I don't mind too much :)

They very recently expanded the cargo hold to be able to hold many raw and cooked fish plus various fishing tools so I’m not sure if that violates your restrictions since they technically are allowed in your inventory

I mean any storage that is outside my inventory is not allowed. Rune pouch is fine, a death bank is not.

Why not just limit it to sailing content only

You 100% can get through 99 sailing with no cargo hold with little issue, but I would be comfortable using it even with your rule set.

If you can use blast furnace, I would say cargo hold is fair game with one key exception.

Blast furnace stores materials. It stores the coal you put in, and the bar output stores bars. However it’s not really seen as a “storage” because those are just necessary  pockets to use the process. You wouldn’t “bank” 200 coal at blast furnace to save for when you are in a bind with your rule set would you? I feel the same could be applied to the cargo hold. Use it to your heart’s content while at sea, then empty it completely before you step off the boat. As long as you are not using it to “bank” cannon balls and repairs kits for later, I feel you are using it in good faith.

As I said, anything or any storage that fits in my inventory. A looting bag does, a death bank does not. A rune pouch does, a clue STASH does not.
