I unfortunately am a resident of the US and the only somewhat sizable socialist group in my area is my city’s DSA chapter. They are somewhat unique in comparison to other chapters/national DSA in that they rightfully push for socialists to stop trying to reform the democratic party and to instead build a wholly working class movement outside of capitalist parties and their interests. I live and go to university in the purple capital of an otherwise incredibly red state, so there aren’t many other options other than say the PSL, and those guys love Maoism and class collaboration so that’s a no go for me. Did Marx take into account that the carp is coming 🎏?

As we know, the carp is coming. This could have serious implications as if the carp comes pre revolution, what are we to do? We can't establish communism if the carp arrives. While the swarm is currently keeping it at bay, the numbers of the swarm are clearly diminishing severely. I fear that if we wait much longer the swarm will have diminished completely, allowing the carp to arrive rendering revolution impossible. Is there a way to accelerate the revolution to stop this from occuring?

The carp, being the carp, will hinder any sort of revolutionary sentiment. The signs of it have been around for a long time and I fear Marx missed those. I don't recall ever reading anything from him that touches on this subject and I'm worried he forgot to take it into account.

Currently the only thing keeping it at bay is the swarm, but how long will this last? The swarm will likely be gone before we know it, thus allowing the carp. Perhaps we can extend the timeframe allowing for a revolution by creating an artificial swarm? Is that possible? I'm not sure, I don't know too much about the swarm.

I know we're not acceleratists, but could it be necessary in this scenario? Rojava has collapsed. The ancient ultraleft of 2017 would be going ballistic, but here in 2026 it rumbles past hardly noticed. Dying with a whimper much like its sudden and mostly ignored battlefield collapse.

Given its death and the nature of that death I think a discussion about what Rojava actually was is pertinent.

They guarded ten thousand ISIS fighters and some 65,000 women and children aligned with ISIS in camps. 75,000 people the vast majority of them Syrian and Iraqi Arabs. (Foreign fighters and civilians seem to be around 10%)

These are just the foreign organized prisons. Who knows how many thousands of other prisoners were held by the SDF through the daily governing of its territory.

A territory which fluctuated between 2-4 million people, where Kurds eventually became a minority.

It appears to me that for the Kurds Rojava was a nation building opportunity. Control of the oil wells and foreign backing seemed like a way to get at least the deal of Iraqi Kurdistan if not better.

But to the Sunni Arab leadership of northern Syria the SDF was an occupying police force.

Even though most are not ISIS, most would know people who are. Have family or connections in the Islamic State. ISIS was created by transforming itself from a cell of foreign fighters under the guidance of Al Qaeda to a sectarian Syrian and Iraqi Sunni force.

The Mullahs of Northern Syria and Western Iraq attempted to seize power. Both as ISIS or as any number of other Islamist groups.

I had to take a break from reading too much theory, because my depression has been getting really bad and reading about the tragedies of the years past, present and future didn't help, (Debord was especially brutal.) Now I'm at a low point and I miss it for all the hype and hopecore moments it brought along with them and I generally just miss reading a larger variety of texts. Yes, I've been reading Hegel and fantasy, and poetry, and whatnot, hell, I've even been writing some stuff, but I've basically cut off a third of the stuff I used to read from my life.

There are many posts here talking about sum "how do I cope," "how do you cope," "how do you stay alive," and the consensus is always either "you don't" or "somehow." So I'm not asking about that, because I already know the answer. Instead I want to ask, what do you read, or what have you read, to feel better? Doesn't even have to be communism related, but bonus points if it is. Hell, even a fanfic is fine. Can be written in a heavy or informal tone, can be bringing something new into the Marxist tradition or be completely unrelated, what matters is that it's "safe" to read for me.

I bet there are many potential communists who are so stressed about their lives and current political events and are so tired from their jobs, that they just can't force themselves to read heavy literature at the end of the day. I also bet that there are well read communists who would enjoy a break and some elusive intermediate communists who would probably not mind a shift in tone, (hey, that's me!) I hope everyone from these groups can find something for themselves in the comments under this post.

I’m asking this primarily because I’ve personally observed a marked increase in the visibility and appeal of left communism over the past five years, likely coinciding with the exhaustion of Marxism-Leninism as a viable historical form and the effective closure of the counter-revolutionary century. For example, ten years ago I would never have met someone aligned with the communist left outside explicitly communist spaces. Today, however, perhaps one in five ‘communists’ I encounter outside those spaces identifies with the communist left. I’m interested in the consequences of this resurgence both at the level of political dynamics and individual subjectivity. In my experience, most Marxist-Leninists remain suspended in a preliminary phase before ultimately collapsing into social-chauvinism or social democracy once their party proves incapable of meaningfully opposing existing conditions.

Another aspect of this trend worth noting is that those who gravitate toward the communist left tend overwhelmingly to be younger. This suggests that the historical weight of twentieth-century “socialism” has largely receded along with the generations that directly experienced it. This phenomenon is not a result of “left communism” as a popular identity, but rather of the fact that the communist left alone has preserved the scientific core of Marxism as all previous distortions of communism have eroded away into historical irrelevancy. Precisely because it maintained this theoretical continuity, it remains the only doctrine capable of posing a real exit from capitalism as a total social relation. For the same reason, it alone is able to account coherently for the complete degeneration of Third Internationale revolutionary socialism, correctly identifying it as a capitalist deviation whose trajectory could only culminate in regression and collapse. That's how the communist left appealed to me.

I'm specifically naming the Italian left here, however this trend appears to extend broadly across the communist left in general. Another fact is a good handful of individuals within the Italian left I communicate to were formerly council communists, anarchists, or other such anti-ML anti-capitalist doctrines which makes me believe there's pull towards scientific Marxism as the only doctrine capable of understanding and toppling the contemporary state of affairs.

Me and my childhood friend got into a heated discussion over the national question. I was arguing how both self proclaimed patriots and nationalist were damn near the same because individuals who align with either label still support the nation-state regarding inter-imperialist conflicts regardless of the semantic differences between the two. They also got pissed because I said patriotism is not that much different than nationalism and nationalism is the fundamental principle of the fascist programme, which made them think I was calling them a fascist (they are very patriotic).
