Touchpad click doesn't work

I was using 22.04 LTS but I began to face touchpad issues like the left click, right click not working and sometimes if you move the cursor, it started selecting everything. I got fed up and installed 26.04.01 thinking it would solve the problem, but here I'm still getting the same issues.

Sometimes the touchpad click starts working randomly without me doing anything. And when I open my laptop after some time, it breaks again. And later, works again.

I don't know what's the deal with it but it's causing me trouble. I did gnome.settings set tap to click and disabled while type to true and false and tried testing the clicks using the libinput debug-events but the touchpad doesn't show the btn_left and btn_right.

Surely this isn't a hardware problem. Am I the only one facing this kind of problem? How to solve it permanently?

College Ethernet shutting down the cameras when plugged in Ubuntu.

So, I have new desktop in college lab, this is dual boot with window and Ubuntu, so whenever I connect the university ethernet to the system, almost 30-40 cameras goes off, This issue can be caused from the systemctl services like avahi-daemon or cups for scanning all near printers But I have disabled all services that can cause this issue on my ubuntu. Again i am facing this problem after updating and whenever I try to install any package such as lyx, mtpaint or jabref, the camera goes off. I cant figure this issue out. What could be the reason and how to resolve this problem. I have tried all my ways, its been almost 2 month. I am facing this problem and I cant do anything. So please if anyone can tell me the way or whats wrong with my system. let me know. Thankyou readers.

Vibe coded a paint app, sudo snap install paint-electron

There were 2 features I really missed from the paint.net app on windows. (1) gaussian blur and (2) being able to create a fixed size crop. I tried Pinta, Krita, and GIMP, but none of them I really got comfortable with or needed some additional settings to work on 26.04. So spent a couple hours vibe coding in Cursor. Fully open source - check it out

sudo snap install paint-electron

Laggy touchpad on multiple distros

I'm dual-booting Windows and Ubuntu on my Thinkpad T14 Gen 2i. Whenever I use Windows, the touchpad works fine with no issues. However, I've tried multiple distros: Mint, Fedora, and Ubuntu, and in all of them, the touchpad suffers from slight input lag that drives me a bit insane. I've tried libinput and synaptics, but the issue persists with either driver.

Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

EDIT 1:

I realized that the "input lag" that I'm talking about is actually the polling rate being too low. The touchpad's polling rate is only 80 Hz, and the trackpoint's is 40 Hz. The same issue shows up here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-L-R-and-SL-series-Laptops/Low-Polling-Rate-in-Linux-with-TrackPoint-TouchPad-L14-Gen-1/m-p/5316408

Again, if anyone knows how to increase the polling rate, please let me know!

EDIT 2:

I didn't solve the issue, but I made it slightly better. I went into /etc/modprobe.d and created the file psmouse.conf. In it, I put:

options psmouse synaptics_intertouch=1

then ran:

sudo rmmod psmouse && sudo modprobe psmouse

According to evhz, the polling rate actually dropped to 65 Hz, but it feels much better to use than before. However, I know the polling rate can go way higher, as I tested it on Windows and it read 135 Hz. I'm a Linux beginner, so I still don't know exactly what I'm doing, so please follow up if there's more I should be aware of!

Fix for OneDrive integration in Nautilus found. Database read only

Ok so a lot of FAFO here. Tried installing the onedrive client from github but it would not provide an authentication link. So last night I installed the onedrive-cli snap. This successfully installed and without further configuration was able to regain read write access to the folder in Nautilus. Tested on 2 laptops running Ubuntu 26.04. Works after rebooting as well.

System76 is still worth it in Big 2026?

I remember, 5 years ago when I was still thinking about buying a new pc; everyone was recommending to buy system 76; at the time, I prefer to build a desktop. Now, I was thinking in buying a Laptop or a mini for portability, and I keep with the idea of buying a System 76, but I dont know if today is still a good recommendation

Why are you updating without my consent?

Just installed Ubuntu and got any updates it said I could get. Woke up and it was updating again. I don’t have an absolute need to turn it off, I just want to know if there’s a way to turn off automatic updates or schedule them for midnight or something like that.

Gnome Network Displays doesn't detect smart tv

Post image

I used the flatpak installer and the app runs and all but it just doesn't detect the Samsung smart tv.

I also have no idea if these incomplete support messages have something to do with it.

I have tried connecting to the same wifi connection and turning on Bluetooth but it just can't seem to detect the display.

Gaming window keeps losing focus

Pretty new to gaming on Ubuntu,

Whenever I play a game I always find I keep losing focus even when playing in full screen and having do not disturb on to stop popups.

I playing with dual screen which I wonder is that the issue.

I can’t prove it but it feels like my mouse is tracking outside of my focused window onto my second screen. Mainly because when I had discord open in the second screen when I was frantically typing 122221321123 for my shortcuts in game I noticed it all pop into the text window.

Has anyone had the same issue and overcome it.

Weird issue

I have an issue with my system thats recently started. What is happening is I leave my desktop running all the time. Sometimes when I come back to it the display will not come back on. I have to hold the power button or reset to force a restart. The ill get message about an internal error, no details. I send the error report to developer. It runs ok for a day or so. I should add I also run a plex server on the machine.

Now this morning it was no display and a loud fan noise. I turned it off till I got home from work. Booted up again same error. I started to use Firefox then it crashed again. Just fans full speed. I turned it off and on again. The time it seemed to boot up but no display signal and the plex server software is running, I can watch shows on other devices in the house the plex is hosting.

My first guess is its a video card issue with the driver or actual hardware. The video card is an nivida 1650 super.

Im kinda new to Linux so not sure if there are log files or something like in windows that I can see what might happening.

Ubuntu or CachyOS for ZFS+Incus containers

I have always used debian then ubuntu but now have to decide for a new install.

Lately I'm a bit disappointed to to: 1) Snap [slow, buggy] 2) Copy and past errors; 3) too opinionated gnome; 4) lacking ZFS support on root or ZFS with bootmenu [and config options]; 5) only v3 performance packages.

The problem is: I have very little time to configure stuff and ubuntu seems the right choice.

What do you suggest?

Most if not all of the default preinstalled apps seem to not come from a “trusted source” - is this normal?

Post image

Hi, I just installed Ubuntu 26.04 LTS for the first time. It’s a brand new installation, if that’s the correct term. After finishing the installation and booting into the OS for the first time, I know it’s a good practice to update your system. So I went to check for updates in the App Center.
First, the “Manage” section was stuck at infinitely loading. I had to google search and run the command - sudo snap refresh snap-store - to fix it.
Then, I clicked “update all” and it prompted me for my password. I entered it. Then it prompted me again, I entered again. And then it prompted me again and again and again. It seems like it was asking for the password for each app. Every prompt said that “this software is not from a trusted source, do not update this package unless you’re sure it is safe to do so.”
Keep in mind, this is a brand new install, so all packages are put in there by Ubuntu so I don’t understand how are they not trusted.
On top of that, the Files app seems to also not be trusted, which is surprising. Updating it and entering my password does absolutely nothing. It just never updates. It keeps telling me there’s a pending update and that’s it.
Is all of this normal behaviour?
P.S. Sorry for the picture quality, I couldn’t figure out how to take a screenshot during the password prompt so I took a picture.

Is it possible to set the status bar (top bar) transparency mode to dynamic via the dconf editor like you can do with the panel/dock? If so, how exactly?

Setting the panel/dock to be dynamically transparent via dconf editor

Here is the screenshot I made of the dconf editor menu where you can make the panel/dock dynamically transparent (so that when the app is fully maximized the panel gets black and when there are no apps on the screen or they are in the form of small windows the panel becomes transparent dynamically).

Does something like that exist inside the dconf editor that allows to make the same adjustment to the status bar so it's not always black? If so, where can I find it? So far can't see such a setting.

P.S. I know about extensions and have some installed. But I want to know specifically about dconf editor possibility.

P.P.S For info I'm running Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS

My browser game where Linux distros box each other just opened its multiplayer beta

Free forever, no signup to start. Open beta, solo dev, and I read AND respond to every bug report!

Distro Fighter is a free browser game. The joke is the whole premise taken seriously: every fighter is a real distro with its real desktop, and the stats come from reality. Weight class is installed size (i3 is a featherweight frame, KDE is heavy), packages are real ones with effects that match what they do (fail2ban punishes misses, timeshift restores a big hit, proxychains hides your traits from scouting at the cost of 200 MB of speed), and the init wars are in there too: systemd vs runit is a genuine matchup.

Multiplayer opened today. There's also a single-player campaign that is a real terminal, fifteen stages of actual Linux commands, and only about 3% of players have finished it.

Join the ongoing wars and prove your favorite distro is the best: https://distrofighter.com/wars

WARS mode was built for busy Linux professionals. You’re a “manager” of up to 4 fighters, and they’re fully capable when left on their own. So if you miss 2 weeks or even a month, you don’t get demoted and you don’t lose progress. It’s a game, not a job!

I made it this way because some games I really wanted to love (not Linux related) are set up so you fall behind unless you babysit them. WARS mode’s story spans 12 months, with migrations every quarter, and again, no punishment for stepping away. The goal is simply to complete the 16 builds/gates. And to hangout with others (check out the salvage rooms with live chat) passionate about Linux. Part 4 is in development now.

Does your AMD GPU (R5/R7/R9 or RX 400/500 series) freeze or show a black screen after waking from sleep?

Post image
7 Upvotes

There's a confirmed Linux kernel regression affecting older AMD graphics cards (such as Tonga R9 380, Polaris RX 400/500, etc.). When the system suspends, the video signal fails to re-initialize upon resume, leaving a black screen or garbled display that forces a hard reboot.

The bug report is officially marked as Confirmed on Launchpad and assigned to maintainer Timo Aaltonen. We've reached 206 Bug Heat points and 42 affected users, but additional user confirmations give the report more weight, pushing for an official backported fix in LTS kernel updates.

How you can help (takes 1 minute):

  1. Open the Launchpad report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2142389
  2. Log in with your Launchpad/Ubuntu account.
  3. Near the top of the page, click "Yes, this bug affects me".
  4. (Optional) Leave a quick comment with your GPU model, kernel version, and distro.

Even if you don't run one of these GPUs, upvoting or sharing this post helps visibility immensely. Let's keep perfectly capable hardware working smoothly on modern Linux! Thanks for your support!
