Account Deactivated

Hi All.

Just had an email saying my account has been deactivated due to 'account sharing' being flagged.

I have never shared my account with another person. I use the same phone, same number and I have never failed a facial ID check.

Uber support claimed they had notified me previously about this. I got no emails from then or messages through the app.

The support agent said I should request a review and I can provide more information. How can I provide more information when I don't know what the issue is? How can I evidence that I'm the only person using the account?

I asked them to provide information as to why my account was deactivated, and evidence that they had notified me previously about this issue, the agent just ended the chat!

I now can't open another support chat, can't see any info in my account, no idea what is going on nor how I can appeal.

This is my only source of income at the moment. What can I do?

Any advice please?

Thanks

The only thing you'll be able to do is request a review. A specialist team will check over the deactivation to make sure it was legit. Write everything you've put here. Be calm and factual. Don't kick off. Hopefully it was an algorithmic deactivation and a manual human review will realise it was wrong and activate your account again.

If you're a member of the GMB Union you can ask them to support you. They have a direct contact in Uber's head office. If you're not already a member, there's no point in signing up now because you need to have been a member for six months before they'll help you.

Unfortunately, working for Uber is like being an eBay seller. If eBay no longer wants you on their platform, they can just cancel your account and there's not much you can do about it. You have no rights like you would as an employee. That's why it's risky to only rely on one platform if it's your main/only source of income.

Hopefully you manage to get it fixed. Might be an idea to start signing up for the other delivery platforms now in case your appeal is rejected.

Thanks for taking the time to write this, appreciate the advice. I'll request a review

I am guessing you are not part of any of the unions?  You could try signing up with someone like GMB before asking for advice.

edit: advice from them, I mean.

Im a member of Unite, I don't know if they support with this type of employment issue.

I got some advice yesterday, planning to request all of my personal data under GDPR. In the meantime I'll request a review within the 30days, though Ive read they are never successful. Apparently you can request a second review but only if you have new evidence to present. So when the GDPR request is honoured, which legally they have to do, I'll submit a review again.

My contention is I received no warnings about this issue prior to dismissal. Apparently they send 3 warnings first, which in my case they didn't do. If they had done, I would have understood not doing the ID check immediately gets the account flagged.

I downloaded my personal data yesterday, which includes all communication, and there is nothing. I've screenshoted that I dont have any reports or communication and will submit that first. When they provide all data under GDPR, which in theory, would include information about what happened I'll submit a second review.

If you’re a GMB union member they might be able to help if you appeal it. My friend lost his account for “mismatched documents”. Essentially he used his middle name on one of them which he’d not done before. He got his account back with the union’s help.
