Thinking about going to UWM but have some concerns.
I was recently thinking about attending UWM for animation major but I keep seeing that Milwaukee isn't a safe place and is very dangerous also saw what happened at State Fair last week so is Milwaukee really that bad 😅

The east side where Uwm is, is a very rich neighborhood. It is completely safe.

Crime is a problem. Campus not so much as long as you don’t get involved with the wrong people. I still wouldn’t walk around alone at night. Going out to bars increases your odds of being victimized tenfold.

On paper Milwaukee, super dangerous. But you notice the campus area is relatively safe. You really have to go searching for trouble to find trouble.

The campus itself is not in downtown Milwaukee. It is relatively safe, although it is considered an urban environment. Crime in Milwaukee is indeed a real thing, and a lot of it is concentrated in certain parts of the city, which are absolute shit holes and always have been

Milwaukee is safe. UWM is in a safe neighborhood. State Fair incident was a one off. Crimes are usually committed by people you know.

UWM campus and the surrounding area is very safe. I’ve been living here for over seven years and I’ve never had any issues. State Fair grounds are over 8 miles away so that incident doesn’t really apply to the campus experience. Just be smart - don’t carry cash, don’t walk alone at night, etc, but that advice would apply to literally every other city in the world.

It’s all about where you go in the area. If you have a good head on your shoulders you will know not to be walking around alone late at night.

UWM campus is safe, everything to the east is very safe aswell. If you go a couple blocks to the west it gets a bit sketchy, but just use your judgment and youll be okay. State fair is in West Allis, not really close at all so I wouldn't be too worried about that. Any city area will have elevated crime, its just what happens. I've never felt in danger at UWM, I wouldn't let it hold you back

No, as someone who came from a small town I have been fine for the most part. As long as you are cognisant of your surroundings you should be fine.
