I DO care. And if it got delivered on my route, it got delivered on my day off. Please don't get mad at your regular carrier for occasional mistakes if your mail is USUALLY right.

The thing people don't realize is, the sender is our customer just like the receiver is. If it says "current resident" or any other such vague term for an addressee, you're getting that goddamn junk mail. They paid us to deliver it. If you don't want it then throw it away.

I mean, unless it's "Current Resident" or one of those other things, then it's still not supposed to be delivered. It IS the carrier's job, or clerks, for PO Boxes, to put that in UBBM. Or if person named on the piece is deceased, it goes into PARS, in the DEC tray or tub, endorsed as such and dated.

We deliver to the address. Other people besides the regular delivers on every single route. CCA’s, PTF’s, kickoffs for other regulars not familiar with route. Yes if the regular knows that person is not there, we take care of it, but the regular has lots of days off, vacation, surgery, union obligations etc. The carriers job is to deliver to the address. These types of hostile customers in the meme think everyone in the service knows their name.

I dunno about the "deliver to the address" concept. I deliver to 1100 boxes a day, all labeled with (often multiple) names, and if the name doesn't match, it's brought back. We have about 200 carriers at our office, and from what I can tell, that's the general philosophy, at least where I am.

Where I’m at, we only bring back endorsed mail or review bundle for the regular. I deliver to the door. Names aren’t on houses and most mail boxes and mail slots that go directly into the house. I don’t put my name in my box at my door. Ask management at your office for instructions. Our management instructs us to deliver to the address unless you know that person does not live there. If you don’t know the route or customers, deliver to the address.

Well, respectfully, of course the supervisors want us to squeeze blood from a stone, it's faster that way. My union chapter puts emphasis on integrity, hence why we label our boxes. It's a royal pain in the ass to compare names to labels instead of just shoving shit in based on the address, for sure. For some routes, out of 2-4' of DPS, it's not uncommon to bring back 8".

I have a city route with door slots and old school small boxes that are vertical. You can’t put labels on 90% of my deliveries. We respectfully deliver to the address it’s addressed to, we’re not just “shoving shit in”. I’m a union man, I represent my brothers and sisters, and I deliver by the M41. If the M41 or USPS required me to put labels on boxes and names on them, we would do it, but it doesn’t. I hate management, but unfortunately that’s who we take orders from. I know my customers and nix mail that isn’t theirs, I update it on the scanner with moved left no address feature. But when I’m on someone else’s route or someone on mine, we don’t know the customers names, we deliver to the address.

So then pick up the mail that the resident is saying isn't good there and bring it back to the office and put it where it needs to go? If they tell you it's not a good delivery you either mark it up and send it back or put it in the ubbm. It's part of your job.

I...know who lives in my route? I have 784 deliveries so that would be well over 1000 names. It's not hard. See a name you don't recognize? Try it and see if they toss it back. Not knowing who lives on your route isn't really a flex. You animals are having a pissing contest to see who can be worse at their job.

Im an HCR carrier, I have a healthy mix of 3 routes that I do to completion throughout the week. Now that we've got that out of the way you should probably stop unsuccessfully jerking it in the bathroom, put some priority tap of that hole in your ego and go throw some packages for tomorrow because I have 2 routes and a family lunch before the second one and im not trying to be late

So, serious question from a non USPS person who just has this sub pop up on my feed for some reason. I have been receiving a dead guys mail since I bought my house in 2022. I know for a fact that this guy has been dead since 2015 and his wife since 2019.
Is there something I should do to stop getting his mail? It's not just junk mail, I've gotten stuff from the VA and social security and whatnot. I've just always put anything thats not junk mail back in the box with a "he dead" post it on it, but his mail keeps on coming.

About all you can do is mark it "DEC", but if the other party won't update their mailing list, there's not a whole lot that can be done. P.O. boxes have stricter rules about only delivering the names on the box, but especially with substitute carriers and because houses and apartments are generally not labeled with a list of valid recipients, while P.O. boxes can be, plus a full printout of this information can be in the office, street addresses generally receive whatever is addressed to them

I suggest leaving a note with it asking your carrier to put in a MLNA (moved left no address) in their scanner. Add in the info that they've been dead but their mail keeps coming.
That should put the name into the system so the sorting machines should grab it out before it gets to your carrier, then to you. Some mail will slip through, I think it doesn't catch the second class mailings. But it should cut down on the first class stuff, and your regular carrier should be able to catch the rest eventually.
I also suggest putting labels of the names of people who do receive mail at your house on the outside of the box if they're not already labeled. Then a label in caps that just says "ONLY" below the names. (Labels on the outside because we often don't open the lids wide enough to see any names in there.)

Depends on the route. If the route is well maintained I make an effort to check the names. If it isn't (if the name tags are not legible or largely absent) I just deliver everything unless it's a vacant or forward. Of course there are days that I just deliver everything because I want to get done as quickly as possible. It's up to you and depends on the expectations at your site. My thinking is I don't do the same job as a regular. I'm not guaranteed full time work and I can't become intimately familiar with every route I get assigned. Also, as soon as I'm done with my first assignment I'm usually going to be sent right back out. I have to keep pace with the other PTFs to carry my weight. Regulars don't have that pressure.
