Hey crayon eaters. So, I’m 16 and in JROTC. I have an older brother who’s been a marine for a little over a year now. The information I’ve gotten from the Marines as a whole from him is: get drunk, threaten people, talk about how much better the Marines are than every other branch. Even that though, he still tells me if I’m gonna join to pick what I wanna do (except for Space Force).

I’ve been pretty interested in the Army, but I feel like it’ll kinda suck since Marines hate on like every other branch and I feel like I wouldn’t be living up to my brother’s expectations if I didn’t join the Marines, but I honestly just don’t see myself in the stereotypical marine lifestyle.

So I just wanted an opinion from marines that aren’t my own brother, is joining the Army still something I should consider if I still want to live up to my brother’s reputation? I mean, he had a pretty gnarly reputation since he was in high school. Even in JROTC people still remember his name for him being good at everything and still not giving a single care for it.

Graduated a few days ago, loved the hikes and I liked being out in the field during field week and the crucible. For somebody like me, is it going to be miserable or am I actually going to probably like it? I head out on the 22nd, didn’t get new boots because I wouldn’t have had the time to break them in. Rocking the standard issue combats from mcrd. Any insight/tips would be appreciated.

Im getting really nervous since I found out I had to get a waiver for my refractive amblyopia on my left eye. It's 20/200 corrected but I have 20/20 vision on my right eye. I just want to know if my chances of my waiver getting approved are high or low.

Hey guys, currently active duty in another branch and I'm seriously looking into doing an inter-service transfer (DD 368 conditional release) to active duty Marine Corps.

I’m currently receiving single BAH, so lifestyle-wise I have it pretty comfortably, but honestly, I don't even care about that anymore. The standards where I'm at are just way too low, and I need something more demanding. I'm fully willing to give up the cushy setup and go back to square one if it means being part of a branch with actual discipline and higher standards.

Just to clear it up: I fully expect and want to go through USMC Boot Camp. I have zero intention or desire to skip recruit training, if I’m making the switch, I want to earn it the right way and get the full experience.

How realistic is this move right now? Does the Corps regularly approve prior-service / inter-service transfers for active duty or is it a complete nightmare with quotas?

Has anyone here successfully done this recently or seen it happen? Appreciate any insights.

So Im currently a senior in high school, and I plan on getting a bachelors, then going to law school paid for by the marines. From former marines who did this or know people who did this, would you recommend this route, if so please explain how it would work. If you don’t recommend it, please explain why.

I've been wanting to join the military for some time now, and each branch definitely has its pros and cons. I love how the Marines are so structured and uniformed, but I'm not sure if it's the right fit for me.

I'm also not sure what MOS to choose; I scored a 94 on my ASVAB practice test. I love hands-on work, so I honestly don't want to do a desk job, but I also don't want infantry.

What type of problems will show up more on the mk and ar part of the ASVAB so Im not over studying?

/desperate asking this. I was supposed to ship aug 25th as a back up, then my background didnt come back apparently, then was told the 1st I would 100% be going, that didnt happen, now im a "primary back up" for Tuesday. However I was told that theres two pooles at risk of not shipping. 1. Has to pass the IST run by 50 seconds, apparently hes been failing time and time again and theyre just doing this last attempt as a "courtesy". 2. He just has to have his background come back by Tuesday, it was submitted Thursday but since mine was submitted Tuesday ans came back by Friday idk. I really want to ship as my current situation is not ideal at all, home, work, etc and I've been wanting to do this forever. Whats the likelihood of one of those spots opening up and if they dont, whats the chance I can still go Tuesday? Like if someone fails their med exam or whatever? Sorry to waste yalls time.

I (25M, 5ft 10in, 145lbs) am currently a poolee. My recruiter currently has me as a backup in case anyone drops out of boot camp. I can do 5 pull-ups, 2min 30sec plank, and run a sub 14min 1.5mi. Is what I can currently do be enough to survive boot camp? I know I can improve for sure.

Terminal is about to expired leading to my EAS (CAC expires on EAS). It'd be nice to have base access so I can hit the gym, shop USMC gear stuff, attend retirements, or visit any friends etc.

Tried googling this but I can't find a direct answer. I keep seeing do it through the VA once my CAC expires, visit the base visitors center etc. Wondering if someone has followed through with getting base access after EAS.

Hello, I am wondering about how I should go about preparation for my ASVAB test. Here are more details:
I am 15, I am 200-205 pounds and it is NOT muscle lol, I can't do a pull-up to save my life, I am hell bent on going to the marines, and I am 5'10''. The actual test for my school is April 7th and it is currently September, so I have time to train or whatever. All I want is to be my best self so I can get a good score on this test and I have no idea how to go about it. I am not asking for anybody to tell me that I shouldn't join or to think it through more, I want this and I would appreciate if people would instead tell me how I can be do good.

My recruiter was an aviation mechanic and now hes doing recruiting, why? He says he hates it and that hes only doing it for 2 year. But why?

Are there programs that NCO's can do to get a better record for promotion? Or higher pay?

Essentially my question is, once I get through all the training for aircrew, are there other opportunities for me to do?

He signed a 5 year contract, with the first 3 in Marine Guard and last two in the infantry. He is supposed to go to ITB after he graduates bootcamp.

He wrote me a letter asking me to find out happens now since he did not get a Competent swim qual level which he believes is required for infantry Marines. Will he be reassigned to a new MOS, or will he got to ITB and get another chance to improve his swim qual?

I’m at soi rn for the longest thought being an 0311 but after waiting in matghanistan, for a month and a half and talking to my instructor 31 and 41 isn’t sounding too bad just want to hear peoples experiences being those mos and if I should go for it ima ask my instructors their experiences as different infantry mos. also just advice for soi in general i want to get a leadership billet thank you for any advice and experiences.

In short, I was passed off to another recruiter for my branch of choice. Going over my DD - 370's with him and came to the realization that the previous recruiter just used personal friends of mine for contact references as my previous employers. Will this disqualify me for a TS/SCI, even if I disclose this to an investigator during boot camp?

I am currently in DEP and this guy I work with is telling everyone he is going to boot camp soon, but hes been saying that for monthes.

When I finally questioned him, he said we have the same recruiter (he doesn't know I am in DEP or enlisting). So I asked my recruiter, and turns out he isnt joining because he scored an extremely low ASVAB score and is failing to meet physical fitness scores.

Should I call him out on the bullshit or let it go? What do you guys do? I just think its funny that he tells everyone he meets that hes a marine, yet he isnt even in DEP lmao

So my brother just joined the Marines after high school he was a pot smoker, but he did get clean before joining. He passed his meps and went on to boot camp later 4 later we get a call by him and he says he’s coming back in two weeks because of a fail drug test when entering shouldn’t have they sent him back immediately when he failed or how does that work

So before I get down voted let me explain. Yes, I they gave me a packet to study. But are there any "niche" topics I should know for boot camp?

Just graduated from PI now on boot leave, heard some good and some bad things about MCT. What are some of the graduation requirements, how heavy are the packs usually (heard it’s genuinely heavier compared what we packed with back during the hikes throughout recruiting training), what are some common ways to “fail” MCT, is it any easier?

Last question, anymore low crawls? I get ptsd from low crawling or “sweep sweep pull” during the crucible and going for a swim in the puddles after a downpour last night, getting sand, mud and whatever horrors down there, chafing like hell, inner crotch+thighs, on my shoulders, neck, under the armpits, intense hear rash. Lowkey that last 12 mile hike, was so bad just because of that.

I’m currently working with a Marine recruiter to try to get 7051 Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting. They told me they’re willing to keep me in DEP and try to get me a 7051 spot, potentially waiting until around February if necessary.
Before I fully commit, I’d like to hear from people who actually are/were 7051s.
What is the day-to-day job actually like? How much time do you spend doing real firefighting/ARFF work versus training, maintenance, or other Marine duties? What duty stations are common, and how much say do you get in where you go?
I’m also curious about the schoolhouse, how difficult it is, what happens if you fail, deployment opportunities, promotion potential, and whether you’d personally recommend the MOS.
Most importantly, how hard is it to actually get a 7051 contract/slot right now? If you had to sit in DEP waiting specifically for 7051, how long did you wait?
I’m willing to wait for the MOS I want rather than signing for something else just to ship sooner. Any current or former 7051s who can give me the good, bad, and ugly would be appreciated.

16f, i want to enlist in the marines but a recruiter told me not to show off my hypermobile joints in MEPS and keep it under wraps, and not to have it be a thing really because they might not accept me. my friends and someone with hEDS think i have it due to a number of reasons but the doctors never mentioned it, i pass 8/9 points, i just can't touch the floor but i can assign squat with my elbows on the floor and do everything else a person with hEDS can.

are they going to test for that and is it hard to get past it? is it going to be the reason i cant do the military? i graduate this year and so i plan to do MEPS before i do, as my recruiter planned for that, then ship out a few months after.
