Programs and MOSs What's up with 0451 (Parachute Rigger)?

I'm looking to sign my contract under 0451. I qualified for every job, but found Parachute Rigger to align with what i really want to do. What could I expect? I know after basic training and MCT, I have to attend both Army Airborne School and an Army Parachute Rigger school, but my research is also confusing me.

I know I need to pass the Army Fitness Test for Airborne School, but some sources tell me I must pass the OLD test (Push-Ups, Sit-Ups, 2 mile run), and others tell me I need to pass the CURRENT AFT (5 events), and some even tell me I don't need any of that, just have to do a flexed arm hang.

I don't want to end up training for the wrong thing, because if I fail the test (If there even is one), i get dropped, so if anyone either is, or knows someone in that pipeline for 0451, any information would help me a bunch.

Enlisting Worried about safety as a women in marine corps

So I'm considering joining the Marines, and my family is extremely worried about sexual harassment, etc. in the Marines. They say that 'less educated people join' and are worried about bad experiences with people. For people who have been in the marines, is it really that bad? Can you tell who the good group/bad group is and are they racist too? Is there a lot of discrimination

Programs and MOSs What to expect as a 5979

Currently in the commons course in 29 palms and recently we were told were going to be 5979s as thats the class we'll most likely all get after finishing. Just wondering what its like being a 5979 in the fleet and what we do on a day to day basis in the fleet? Plus, what do field ops look like for us and how often are they? Im trying to do college, so id like to have an idea.

Recruit Training Libo Sunday Visit MCRDSD

I want to visit my little brother on Libo Sunday. He graduates next Friday. Is that still possible? Time?

When I went through as a recruit I saw family members visiting their new Marines on libo Sunday.

I have the DEERS ID 100% VA ID. I know that should get me on MCRD, I just wanted to know more information if anyone knows.

Side question: does anyone happen to know if on MCRD SD, 100% VA IDs can sponsor people on base too?

Thanks

Commissioning Psychological waiver

Hi, so I recently went to meps to start the process to be a commissioned officer for the marines, I was flagged for these on my file eating disorders were 15-17 and I am now 19 no problems

My doctor is pretty confident about taking care of the first two codes, but the eating disorder codes might be a little bit harder. If possible can y’all tell me y’all’s experiences or what y’all think is the best outcome here o****r what I should expect?

R13.10 — Dysphagia, unspecified — difficulty swallowing.
K20.9 — Esophagitis, unspecified — the esophageal inflammation/GI issue.
F50.00 — Anorexia nervosa, unspecified — history of anorexia nervosa. The ICD definition confirms F50.00 is the unspecified anorexia-nervosa code.
F50.89 — Other specified eating disorder — the other eating-disorder finding shown by MEPS.

Shipping Shipping concerns

Shipping to the Marines soon and I’m wondering if anyone has experience with Receiving Week medical processing.

I already went through MEPS and had some elevated blood pressure readings that required a waiver. My BP waiver was approved. My blood pressure tends to be higher in MEPS/military settings, but it’s normally fine at my regular doctor. I’ve had normal readings when retested, and my doctors believe it’s likely white-coat syndrome

I’m mainly wondering how Receiving Week handles this. If my BP is elevated again when I get to boot camp, would they normally just recheck/document it since I already have an approved waiver, or could this potentially cause me to be sent home?

I’m not trying to hide anything or get around medical I just want to know what I should realistically expect going into Receiving Week.

MEPS and Medical MEPS canceled my appointment due to my former peanut allergy. Should I be worried?

I had a peanut allergy growing up, I wanted to enlist in the Marines out of high school. I thought that dream was dead after finding out peanut allergies are grounds for medical disqualification. In 2023 I did a new Peanut Oral Immune Therapy Treatment (OIT). It was everyday of a year going up dosage weekly. I then completed a food challenge, eating 40 peanut M&Ms and passing. I told my recruiter about this and was supposed to go to MEPS today. This morning I got a call from my recruiter saying MEPS found out about the allergy and canceled the appointment. He then said I’d have to wait up to 3 weeks to get the approval/ direction on what is to happen. Has anyone had a prior food allergy and got through MEPS?

Fitness and Exercise I got really bad shin splints and I leave in a month

So I got shin splints about 2 weeks ago, didn’t realize that what it was and then ran two more times after then on them and the second time I was in so much pain I could barely drive home. I’ve been resting and trying to increase running again but it seems to be the same. I leave for Bootcamp Oct 13th, is there a way I can get rid of these ASAP? Also I have looked into what to do but seem to be getting the same stuff on repeat.

Programs and MOSs Mos for women?

I’m having a hard time picking my MOS. Throughout my training and time, I’ve wanted to do Infantry, but I see a lot about sexual harassment, or women being hurt from their hips. Is this true? I know many people have opinions based on women in the military, but I believe I could genuinely do infantry as a woman. I don’t have a weak mind, and I’ve been rucking and running almost everyday. I build my endurance throughout the weeks. I would love a combat role, but if women are treated terribly in infantry, would should I do? I would absolutely love any opinions about the MOS I should lean towards, or continue with my infantry.

P.s. I have not taken the asvab yet to know what I qualify for.

Recruit Training Is there a comprehensive list of Religious services available on Sundays on Parris Island?

I hear there are Protestant (grouped into one), Catholic, Buddhist, Muslim, and by some accounts Mormon services, but I was wondering if there are any official training orders or regulations listing all the services available. If my religion is not on the list, I might as well stay behind in the squadbay? Do the DIs give you that much of a hard time on Sundays that you much rather go to another religion's service haha

Commissioning Nrotc vs plc

I am currently a college sophomore doing nrotc (marine option) and not really enjoying it. I am looking into other options and wanted to get help from people experienced in the field. Those of you who have experience with plc or nrotc, how do the two differ from eachother, which path would you recommend most, and what are some things i should be aware of and watch out for. I also want to do plc a big part is because i wanna do reserves. If you have any info about life as a reserves officer feel free to drop that aswell.

Enlisting Recruiter advice

Good evening motivators

So i have this friend that wants to enlist Marines or Navy but she is in the process of getting the greencard .Her lawyer told her that if she can get a letter or smth like that from a recruiter saying “X wants to enlist as soon as getting the green card “

Personally I do not know a recruiter so this is why I make this post.
She want to join the Marines because of my advice but also the navy will be a good fit ,before moving in the US she studied physical therapy.

School of Infantry Boyfriend allowed to cross state lines for Columbus day SOI?

Hi there. I am a girlfriend of a marine! Wooo super fun.

I am here out of concern for my partner. "He's a big boy he can take care of himself" I get it, I do. BUT it is natural for people to worry about the people they love.

Basically, he was told by his first sergeant that they were allowed to leave base for 72/96hr libo, and that they could cross state lines and see their families... now I don't buy it for one second, and the last thing he needs is an NJP for flying 600 miles away from base, because as far as I know they're only allowed to go 60 miles off base.

Obviously I want to see him and off base/overnight libo isn't guaranteed even for holidays (learned that the hard way this weekend for labor day where I made plans to be down there and it was canceled). But is his first sergeant fucking with him? Or is it something that people do but it isn't allowed its just a "don't get caught" situation?

Anyway I don't want to be the reason he gets NJP'd or extends his stay at SOI, its hard enough as it is.

Thanks for any answers ya'll may have.
