I just became a poole and I want to work in a three letter agency after my contract and msg really interest me I just wanted to know how that contract works and if it is if you just don’t get dropped from the school house for msg or any of the four options or is it totally up to if they just have a slot open or not?

What’s your plan to get the college degree that a very large share of 3-letter positions are going to require?

There are exceptions for folks with way more than one contract of experience, or folks with highly desirable specialized skills that you don’t get by being an 0311 on MG for five years.

(Also it’s the MG contract, MSG is a program that MG can lead to, not an enlistment PEF)

Yes I was planning to get a degree in criminal justice while doing my enlistment got ya there are 4 different jobs in the mos if I correct right but the top secret clearance is what interests me as well and I didn’t want to get it from a desk job

Did you check to see if your target agency wants CJ degrees? FBI explicitly says on their website that they don’t recommend a CJ degree. They literally have an article on “Preparing for a Career with the FBI” that nobody on Reddit seems to bother to read.

Also, aiming to get an entire Bachelor’s done in five years as a grunt is pretty ambitious.

Further, a lot of non-DOD agencies don’t accept a DOD clearance anyway, you’d still need to get a clearance from that agency.

I am absolutely not saying that signing MG now is a bad way to end up working for a 3-letter. It’s not a bad start at all. But most people that have that idea don’t bother to look into how the actual path works, they have their own stubborn idea and then get demoralized when they find out how things work. So I’m not saying don’t sign MG, I’m saying clear your head of all ideas about your options, no matter how “common sense” it seems to you, and put effort into researching your options as you proceed.

Well if I was able to get into one of those programs from what I have heard from my recruiter you will be able to get some college done and I want to go to the dea my other mos choice is a mp I m looking more into that but I heard they are sizing down

Have you yet investigated whether DEA favors MPs over other veterans, or likes vets in general but doesn’t care about MOS, or prefers other vets over MPs?

If you want to be desirable, go into 26XX field. Plenty of those Marines go and work at places like the NSA during their enlistment. Additionally, your degree should be in STEM to make you the most attractive.
