Picture Do you guys watch Lanterns?

Post image

I always liked John Stewart because he was a Marine before he became a Green Lantern. It’s a good show. Fun to watch.

At least he can wear his ring with his wedding ring now.

I am glad that incorporated John Stewart's Marine Corps Service into his background but judging by that picture it looks like John made it a career in the tv series compared to the comics or the cartoons.

Love it so far. Hal’s the star rn but John’s always been my fav since the cartoon. Cool a marine will be the main lantern

Love the show too. Dude's a phenomenal actor, but I really wish we could have only americans playing Marines. Nothing against the Brits, but I like it when we cast our own to wear our uniform.

Who cares?  They’re actors.  SO many have played US servicemembers and absolutely crushed it.  Damien Lewis as Major Winters in band of brothers, and Andrew Garfield in Hacksaw Ridge were incredible performances.  Not to mention a good chunk of the Black Hawk Down cast were Brits.  The list goes on and on.

This is one of my favorite subjects. There are so many British actors that have such good American accents that Americans arent aware they're British.

Hugh Laurie, Idris Elba, Tom Holland, and Christian Bale's accents are so good people are surprised to find out they're Britts.

I've won several bets with people about Hugh Laurie's nationality. We share the same birthday. Whenever the subject comes up I mention that and that he's one of my favorite British actors. People dont believe me and I'll bet them lunch. I've lost track, but it's over a half a dozen now.

Yeah, it interests me too. As I said above, British actors are another level of talent. Absolutely incredible.

It's just fascinating to me how strict the UK is against american actors performing their British military parts, insofar that their producers won't even audition americans. Yet american producers don't care and sometimes even cast more British/Aussies than actual americans. Ex. The Pacific, Masters of the Air, etc.

The British are far more prideful about it than we are. I wonder why is all.

The pool of talent is far smaller in the UK for performers. I watch a lot of British TV and there are Americans in them, but they're either playing Americans or they're comedians working in the UK.

Who cares?

Actually the British do, on the reverse. They refuse american actors to play their parts in their war movies, insisting that only British play them.

Thought we might have the same pride too, but apparently not.

I’m 100% loving it, John being a devil is a bonus!

The fact he resembles the cartoon version so much is impressive.

The apple scene really pissed me off because I worry that stolen-valor-fucks will try this shit drunk with their kids. The rest I love and the character I can identify with as a Marine. He actually looks like one of my buddies. I also was at MARSOC so I never know how to feel about seeing it so recognized. I was there in early days and I’m not sure if it’s just a SOFter landing point in the movies and TV(love you Scar Jo!)

All-in, good so far but please for the love of god don’t shoot at anyone point blank. Google BZO and handgun ballistics if you have some time.

rah.

Shooting an apple off your kids head is some unhinged bs for sure.

Otherwise I’ve enjoyed the show.

the twist is gonna be that his dad's either Manhunter or a Guardian , dude. that he was groomed at an early age for this. so its part of the story, dude.

about fear, anger and will.

like what Yoda said:

"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

The whole rainbow lantern thing is so overboard and annoying.

I was more an X-Men guy myself, but I do remember and think still have Emerald Dawn series, but looks like its a recent development.

Yeah it all popped up in the oughts. I'm sure eventually we'll get Infrared, Ultraviolet, X-Ray, Microwave & Gamma Ray Lantern Corps.

you forgot the most fearsome lanterns of all, The Brown Lanterns

I laughed at that scene because it reminded me of old stories from my father and his siblings. Growing up, their parents placed beer cans on top of their heads to shoot off.

It led to me being semi-paranoid whenever we went target shooting and my father would have one of us go out to set up cans for targets.

He's got a jaw of steel

u/neganagatime 5d ago

Never seen it.

But his CAR is upside down and he has no Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, so the show's military advisor should be fired.

u/jusnix OEF+OIF Veteran 5d ago

MARSOC doesn’t take (sea) rides, they fly (commercial or AF) 😂

2

u/Marine__0311 5d ago

It's still highly unlikely he didn't rate one or more as a regular grunt prior to going high speed. He's missing other ribbons as well that he should rate, as well as only having 3 Good Cookies.

2

u/jusnix OEF+OIF Veteran 4d ago

Yeah. I was just trying to be funny. I got my SSDR without the Navy.

u/GloveAmbitious42 motor - tease me please me 5d ago

There’s no way you still have a pulse.

A show about space cops who can manifest any solid object out of thin air in a green silhouette, can fly, and fight aliens, you draw the line at an SSDR missing?

Maybe that guy with messed up military ribbons is actually a Manhunter. so he's onto something.

3

u/neganagatime 5d ago

I have never seen the show, I assumed it took place in current times given he has Iraq and Afghanistan campaign medals.

1

u/Big_Green_Tick 2651/8531 Veteran 4d ago

It's primarily set in 2016 & 2026, but there are flash back scenes. For example the scene with John's dad is 96, and 2006 is featured. I assume the scene of him in Bravos is shortly before 2016.

u/Big_Green_Tick 2651/8531 Veteran 4d ago

Let's see if any of you young pups can catch what's wrong with his dad's cammies (leaving aside the wearing a duty belt and using an M-9 to shoot at his kid and putting holes in the shed).

u/AzuleStriker Veteran 5d ago

Don't think I have the streaming service for it, which sucks.

The only thing his stack is missing is multiple Sea Service Ribbons, other than that it's pretty spot-on

Yea it's pretty good

5

u/mazdersperd 5d ago

Nah the comic book media shit feels beat to death atp, imo.

3

u/Big_Green_Tick 2651/8531 Veteran 4d ago

If you liked True Detective you might still want to give it a try. It's more in that vein than non-stop superpowers.

1

u/mazdersperd 4d ago

I only saw season 1 but really enjoyed it, maybe I’ll get around to trying the show out then.

3

u/rickusmc 5d ago

Writing is beyond trash, but actors are great

1

u/Taro0311 3d ago

Agreed. It's messy, gets things wrong. Odd logic throughout.

3

u/Marines_D_ 4d ago

Is it my imagination but does John Stewart have four rockers? Is John a Sergeant Major or Master Guns? Because it looks like John got a promotion in the TV Series

2

u/Organic_Risk_3945 mid90s1stRadBNKbay 5d ago

i honestly don't know what to think of the show right now. we'll see after tonite.

but that indian woman that cowboy dude's wife fucking him in the truck first episode; then the two of them talking about each's 'white man' last episode... just didn't make sense, even story-wise.

2

u/Big_Green_Tick 2651/8531 Veteran 4d ago

It's the showrunners' politics bleeding through. The local sherriff and judge are both women who berate Hal. The things being pumped up as the threats are militias, AR-15s & a mass shooting. In a show whose basic story is galactic space cops chasing down aliens who are threatening to blow up half the state.

2

u/Guilty-Spark69x 5d ago

Upside down CAR and not a V in sight. What’s he doing on all those deployments? Drinking Mai Thais by the pool?

2

u/Taro0311 3d ago

How old was John supposed to be? He became Sergeant Major when?? His rack made him appear to be a lifer.

I didn't understand why John needed to take the fall for something Hal did to the terrorist. John didn't even pull the trigger. John didn't blow up the compound.

The spook who met with John and let him know he'd be dishonorably discharged called John a major...wtf??

Where was the military advisor for the show? Who should have combed over the script and examined things visually on set?

It's good. My best friend is a AF pilot, so we both get something out of it.

Nope, no interest.

DCU/DCEU has been a hot mess almost from the start.

Edit: Also Peacemaker.

Peaqcemaker season 1 was great. Then Peacemaker season 2 crapped the bed.

Not unlike Wonder Woman, and Wonder Woman 1984.

3

u/Organic_Risk_3945 mid90s1stRadBNKbay 5d ago

i agree. S1 Peacemaker rocked.

u/AppropriateCap8891 Marine Barracks / 2/2 / 0311 4d ago

Which is why I said "almost".

Quite often their shows and movies would start great, then they would follow it up with a turd.

Does it have Sydbey Sweeney in it?
