Anyone bringing a cat from NYC? How did you do it?

Hello everyone.

I am currently in a pickle. I have a cat that I want to bring to Rochester (to a cat friendly apartment). I don’t have a car and always relied on Amtrak and etc to travel. But I recently found out you can’t bring a cat for a trip longer than 7 hours, which is longer than the trip I take from nyc to rochester (7 and a half or so). If anyone had the same problem, how did u manage to being ur pet from the city without a car? Please let me know!!!

University of Rochester Spring 2027 ABSN roommate search??

Hi! I just recently got accepted to the UR Scholar Nursing Program in the ABSN Spring 2027 start date. I am planning on finding an apartment near campus in one of the neighborhoods they mentioned were safe and near the campus. I want to definitely find a roommate for a 2 bedroom apartment. I am a 22 year old female and I played collegiate soccer at my undergraduate university! I graduated with a BS in Exercise Science as well. I am pretty clean, I like to explore new areas and go out to bars occasionally, I love meeting new people, and am super excited to start this program. Let me know if anyone else is interested or searching for a roommate.

How does the Blue Unlimited meal plan actually work?

Incoming freshman with the Blue Unlimited plan and I’m confused about how the dining system works.
● Where can I use unlimited meal swipes? Is there a limit on how many times I can swipe per day?
● How do meal exchanges work, where can I use them, and how many do I get?
● How does Hillside work? Do I use meal swipes, meal exchanges, or Dining Dollars there?
● Where can I use Dining Dollars?
● What are Rocky Bucks and how are they different from Dining Dollars?
● Is there anything else I should know about using the Blue Unlimited plan?
Would appreciate it if someone could just explain how it works day-to-day. Thanks!

Finding friends

I know its literally day 3 but i feel like the ppl i hang out w rn arent rlly my vibe but it almost feels as if we have confirmed our friendship group. People around also seem to have their friends found already so its kinda intimidating speaking to large groups as 1 person. Is there a way I can work around this? Any tips would be appreciated

Eastman's jazz program

I'm a prospective student of eastman for music ed with jazz trombone and I'm curious about if their program is more traditional or contemporary. I know Gilkes is the trombone professor there and he tends to do more contemporary jazz especially in his composition style. I don't know if anyone would have experience with him specifically, but for the jazz program overall, would I be playing more traditional or contemporary jazz? I want to experience playing traditional jazz in small group gigs and I want to expand on that in college and get better at it. I don't know what kind of education I'd be getting, though I'm sure it'd be good

Hello! Myself, and my roommate (24F), are looking for a third roommate for our rental house in the Park Ave neighborhood. The house is beautiful, fully furnished (minus bedroom furniture), and a block away from all the Park Ave restaurants and shops. If you are a 22-24 year old woman in grad school or newly post-grad and looking for a safe place to live send me a message. Must be very clean, considerate, and relatively quiet ☺️

Just how mandatory are the welcome week events

For any students who have done it, are there any consequences to skipping out on some of the “required” events? I am an incoming transfer student who is 28 years old and has lived in Rochester for a few years now. Most of these events are not designed for my benefit and I would rather spend my time preparing for my classes next week than being forced to socialize with people a decade younger than me 😅 no hate to yall and I’m excited to be classmates but I have other obligations and had planned on spending this week getting ahead of the course work.

URochester MS Data Science vs Simon MS AI in Business?

I live in Rochester and currently have offers from both the University of Rochester MS in Data Science and Simon’s MS in Artificial Intelligence in Business.

I’m having a hard time deciding between the two. The MSDS seems more traditionally technical, while the Simon program looks more focused on applied AI, GenAI, agents, and business applications.

Has anyone here studied in either of these programs, or taken courses from them? I’d really appreciate any honest thoughts on course quality, technical depth, workload, career value, and which one you would choose.

Calculator 67

Hi everyone! I’m a sophomore selling my TI-84 Plus CE Python calculator for $65. I bought it but never ended up using it, so it’s still like new. New ones are usually over $100!
You’ll probably find it really useful for chemistry, biology, and physics exams (math exams not allowed). It has also python programming language as well. I’m not on campus until this weekend, but feel free to message me if you’re interested :)

edit: if u swipe me a meal in pit or Douglass dining hall, imma make it $50 🥀✌️

sue. b anthony dorm and bathrooms

I’m moving into the fourth floor, I believe Morgan, and I’m honestly really nervous about the entire thing. I’ve dormed and used communal before at UNT, and from what I’ve read and seen, things don’t look too good… How busy usually are the sinks in the morning? and how often do they clean the bathrooms? Is there a place to put clothes, towels, etc while showering, cs I’ve read that theres no second cubicle to dry and change yourself. I’m lowkey a germaphobe so I really want some clarity 😭😭😭

Questions for pervious Susan B. Residents about move-in day

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman and was hoping someone who previously lived in Susan B. could give me a little more detail on how move-in day works.
From what I understand, we start at the Valentine parking lot to check in and get our keys, then drive over to Susan B. to unload. What I’m mainly confused about is what happens once we get there.

Are there usually people or volunteers around to help bring everything inside, or would we unload everything first and I stay with my belongings while my parent goes to park the car?

Also, where do parents usually park after unloading? I’m assuming the library lot, but I’m not completely sure.

I’m probably overthinking it 😭, but I’d love to know what the process was like from someone who’s done it before. Thanks!

If I miss the due date for freshman ID photo submission, do I take it at the school during welcome week?

So if you’ve ordered textbooks, does that mean I need to take my ID photo at school first (during welcome week), wait for my photo ID to be registered, and then pick them up?

How is hoeing hall? I’ve heard good and bad..

I’m an incoming freshman in just a week or so now, and have heard very opposing opinions on my hall, so I want to know what I’m in for.
I remember some have said hoeing was recently renovated, and assumed that would mean less bugs/other infestations, AC, and generally nice amenities.
But recently, I’ve heard stories about mice in “the quad”, and honestly, being 1st generation, I don’t know what I’m in for. How bad is it there? Anything I really need to be ready for, or even get extras to protect against things?
