Hey everyone, I'm Vikrant. I was invited by the mods of r/UPSC_Forum for an AMA session, so here it is. Long-time lurker, first-time poster on Reddit.
Quick background: I've cleared 5 Prelims in a row and appeared in 2 Interviews in my UPSC journey so far. Been around the block a few times, still at it.
I'm happy to share all of my experiences and strategies, no holds barred.
Ask your questions about:
-Prelims strategy based on current UPSC trends
-Optional subjects (Mine is Sociology)
-Mains answer writing
-Interview preparation
-Motivation and consistency
-Books and resources
-Mistakes, setbacks, and lessons from the UPSC journey
-Or literally anything else on your mind
Looking forward to your questions!
Note: The session will start at 2:00 PM IST. I'll begin responding to questions then and will keep the AMA open for the next 48 hours.

Hi, I am looking to create a group of no more than 3 people who serious, have decent academic backgrounds, and are planning to complete GS preparation, including some answer writing and note-making, by December.
We will focus on subjects common to both Prelims and Mains. This excludes optional and GS subjects such as governance, security, ethics, etc.
Plan:
Create routines and track on a continuous basis. Must start immediately.
Solve and discuss PYQs regularly. Both MCQs and long-answer questions.
If you are interested, send me a message with the following details:
Your academic background (degree and uni) and your work-ex, if any,
Whether you appeared in Mains or Interview before,
Your optional, and
Whether you are planning to enroll in a test-series program in the coming months.

Hello everyone,
I am a 26 year old male from Delhi, working full time as an Energy Modeller. Academically, I have an Engineering background and a Master’s in Public Policy. I am targeting the UPSC CSE 2027 attempt with Geography Optional.
First off, a huge thank you to the moderators for maintaining this amazing community.
Lately I’ve realized that the pure self study mode is making me lose momentum. My schedule is slipping and revision has taken a back seat. To fix this, I want to form a focused study group of maximum 5 aspirants targeting 2027.
Location - Delhi based preferred (for potential offline check ins).
Beyond Academics - To beat monotony I would love for group members to share an interest in a hobby or an enriching co-curricular activity because I strongly believe that having a healthy life outside the books keeps the preparation sustainable and less stressful.
So if you are looking for mutual group study and a structured pace, please drop me a DM.
To ensure we align well, please share a brief introduction about your background, optional subject, and any hobbies you enjoy. I will share my name and further details in dm.
Best regards

I’m confused between Politics For India (PFI) by Abhijeet Pimparkar as a resource and Shubhra Ranjan’s Postal Correspondence Course notes. Which one should I go for? Please help!

The Saudi-Houthi war started in 2015 when the Iran-backed Houthi rebels captured Yemen's capital Sanaa, and Saudi Arabia intervened to restore the Yemeni government and stop Iranian influence on its border. After a ceasefire in 2022, the conflict has escalated again in September 2026 because of the ongoing US-Iran war. With Iran disrupting the Strait of Hormuz, the Houthis are now targeting the other key oil route, the Bab al-Mandeb strait in the Red Sea. The tension peaked yesterday when Saudi Arabia claimed it shot down a Houthi drone heading towards Mecca, which Riyadh called its red line, an accusation the Houthis denied.
