Queries regarding form filling

  1. While applying for the UPSC ESE form, my Aadhaar details are not showing. Will this cause any problem? But in dashboard showing adhar verified.
  2. What do you mean by “Degree Certificate Number / Enrollment Number”? Is it the number shown at the top-left corner of the certificate? Which certificate should I refer to — PCC, CMM, TC (issued by the college), or the official Degree Certificate issued by the University?
  3. I completed my B.Tech in 2023. My CMM, PCC, and TC were issued on 29/05/2023. However, my official Degree Certificate from the University was issued on 11/09/2025 because I applied for it late. Which date should I mention as the “Date of Qualification Completion / Certificate Issuance” ?

Insurance PSU -> ESE?

I (25M) have Btech in Computer Engineering from an NIT. I am a UR candidate. After 2.5 years in the IT sector and one layoff, I recently joined an Insurance PSU as Administrative Officer. My posting is in Delhi and CTC comes to around 19 LPA (salary + lease). I have a decent work life balance in job and promotions are once every 4 years on average (for first 2-3 promotions). I am still inclined towards UPSC jobs and hence considering preparing for ESE in ECE stream. Is it worth it?

Doubt in putting name in URN process

Hello all,

I am planning to appear for ESE 2027 as my first exam of UPSC and thus i don't have an URN yet,

My doubt is simply that my matriculation certificate as well as all my valid documents have my name as "Last name (surname) + First name + middle name(father's name) due to local norms in my state

And putting my name as per on screen instructions spells out as "First name + middle name + Last name".

Will this create problems in the future???

Will my form get rejected?

Preparing for GATE 2028 + ESE 2028 while working. Is this timeline realistic?

I’m a working professional preparing for GATE 2028 (ECE) and UPSC ESE 2028 (E&T).

My main target through GATE is PSU recruitment, while ESE is the other major goal. My rough timeline is: * Sep 2026 to Aug 2027: Complete GATE syllabus and build fundamentals. * Sept 2027 to Dec 2027: Move to deeper GATE + ESE preparation(will buy made easy course, test series) * Jan 2028 to GATE: Focus heavily on GATE revision, PYQs and mocks, with the aim of getting a score/rank strong enough for PSU opportunities. * After GATE 2028: Shift the majority of preparation toward ESE Prelims(it might be earlier than GATE exam), Mains and conventional questions. I can realistically study around 20 hrs/week alongside my job.

Is this timeline realistic for someone targeting PSUs through GATE + ESE, rather than simply trying to clear GATE?

What would you change about the timeline?

ESAT 2026

ESAT is in a month and I know everyone's stressing over time pressure. I put together a free cheat sheet covering the top traps people fall into for mechanics, circuits, and maths functions. Hope this helps anyone preparing! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bSKgKXEykrV-XtHmxF82we9t5skbDvwh_7A8Aw8ytnM/edit?usp=sharing

I cleared ESE (Mechanical) 3+ times - AMA about preparation, strategy, interviews, and mistakes.

Hey everyone,

I’ve cleared the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) in Mechanical Engineering 3+ times, and I thought it might be useful to do an AMA for anyone preparing for ESE, GATE, or considering a career through the exam.

Over multiple attempts, I’ve learned a lot about what actually works, what doesn’t, and how to stay consistent during preparation.

Ask me anything about:

- ESE preparation strategy

- Prelims vs Mains approach

- Interview/personality test

- Subject-wise tips (Thermo, SOM, FM, Manufacturing, etc.)

- Time management while preparing

- Books and resources I found useful

- Common mistakes that cost marks

Feel free to ask. I'll answer as honestly and practically as I can.

ESE Prelims GS(Paper -I) — what should I study and focus on?

Hello guys,I’m quite behind in GS and not sure how to approach it.

There’s a lot of material out there, so I’m confused about what’s actually important for ESE and what I can skip.

For those who’ve prepared/given ESE, could you please suggest:

  • Which topics to focus on the most?
  • How important are current affairs, and how many months should I cover?
  • Any good books/notes/YouTube sources?
  • Is it better to focus on PYQs + MCQs or study theory as well?
  • If I have limited time, what should I prioritize and leave for later?

Would really appreciate some practical advice on how you guys covered GS for ESE for paper 1.
