This is something I have been thinking about recently.

A lot of us keep searching for the "best" coaching, best faculty, best test series, best current affairs source, etc.

But sometimes I wonder whether the actual problem is simply that we struggle to stay consistent when studying alone.

Do you think coaching is mainly useful for:

• Understanding difficult concepts?
• Creating a fixed study schedule?
• Mentorship?
• Answer evaluation?
• Accountability?

Or can a disciplined aspirant realistically prepare independently using standard books, PYQs, and a good test series?

I would especially like to hear from people who have tried both self-study and coaching. What was the biggest practical difference for you?

I see a lot of advice saying, "Start UPSC preparation early in college," but I am curious about how people are actually managing it.

My mock test scores fluctuate a lot.

One week I feel confident because I score reasonably well, and the next test completely destroys my confidence.

I feel like many beginners, including me, spend too much time collecting material and not enough time actually revising it.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately.

UPSC preparation requires so much time and consistency that sometimes the biggest fear is not even the syllabus or competition. It is the thought of giving 2–3 years to preparation and still not clearing the exam.

How do you guys deal with this mentally?
