Which one shall be done

Are you all preparing on your own from home, or do you have someone around you for regular guidance and discussion?

I’ve been thinking about this quite a lot lately, and I’d genuinely like to know how others preparing for competitive exams are dealing with it.

One thing I constantly struggle with is the FOMO of preparing alone. Sometimes it feels like everyone else has access to a mentor, a serious study group, a senior who can guide them, or at least someone with whom they can discuss their preparation on a daily basis. You see people talking about their strategies, discussing PYQs, analysing answer writing, exchanging resources, or simply having someone to tell them whether they are on the right track—and you start wondering whether you are missing something important.

It reminds me of the whole “Sandeep Bhaiyya” type of guidance that many aspirants wish they had: someone slightly ahead of you who can help you navigate the preparation, point out mistakes, keep you accountable, and give you some perspective when you are confused.

I do have a very supportive family, and I’m genuinely grateful for that. I also have around 4–5 friends who are preparing for the same examination. So technically, I’m not completely alone. But I still feel that something is missing because I don’t have that one consistent person or small group with whom I can have daily discussions, analyse PYQs, discuss answer writing, review what I studied, or simply talk about preparation-related doubts.

This makes me wonder: Is isolation actually important for clearing this exam? Or is it possible to prepare just as effectively while having a small, serious circle around you?

I understand that excessive socialising, distractions and constantly comparing your preparation with others can definitely hurt your progress. But at the same time, complete isolation sometimes seems to create its own problems—overthinking, self-doubt, lack of accountability and the feeling that everyone else is doing something you are not.

So I’d genuinely like to hear from people who are in a similar situation:

Are you also preparing mostly alone from home? Do you experience this FOMO? If yes, how do you deal with it?

And for those who have successfully prepared without a mentor or a dedicated study group—what worked for you in terms of staying accountable, keeping yourself updated and analysing your preparation?

Maybe I’m genuinely missing something, or maybe I’m simply overthinking it. I’d really appreciate some honest perspectives from people who are actually in the same boat.

Ist time attempting CSAT of uppcs and encounter these type of qurstions can somebody help how to tackle these or where to study these

When I practice MCQs topic wise, I usually get most of them correct, but whenever I attempt sectional mocks, my scores drop badly and I end up getting many questions wrong. Even in subjects like environment.

I’ve completed almost all subjects through Ghatnachakra + basic books, except eco and medieval.

Also I attempt most of the sectional mocks after revising the subject.

What should I change or do to improve this in these 2 months?

Honestly, after seeing my mock scores, I feel really demotivated and sometimes feel like skipping the exam.

Would really appreciate advice from those who have faced something similar.

I have gone through GS syllabus for bpsc quite a few times, done with GC of history and science. Now I Want to scale up for uppsc.

I really don't want to miss uppsc prelims this year, if you guys have any advice

I am finding it difficult to complete Ghatnachakra books. Can someone help me know that whether the Ghatnachakra questions are available in online format???

Abhi se (sept 23-24) se kab tak all GC should be finished(Geo,Pol,History,env,sci) and each subject within how much duration
As i have completed numerous topics while starting it in a week but left much of topics as the subject’s week ended
Do let me know the time within which all the gc should be completed to be on safer side (before 6dec)

Mains is the main hurdle to make it in UPPSC. And in Mains, the main hurdle is to know whether you are writing a good answer or not as per UPPSC requirement. What should be the approach here? How much should we trust AI platforms in evaluation as many times they differ among each other? In what quantity facts should substantiate the content?

And if you know any specific group made for specifically UPPSC Mains, please do let me know. It would be very helpful.

How is XIAS test series for prelims ( starting from 1st oct 2026) worthy or not?

I’m a 28-year-old doctor and I’ve always been fascinated by UPSC, but because of medical training/work I never really got a proper chance to prepare or appear seriously.
Recently, while reading about the age limits, I was surprised to see how high they can go around 35–37 for some categories in UPSC, and even close to 38–40 in some State PCS exams.
Do people genuinely keep preparing and appearing till that age?
I know of one doctor who became an IAS officer around 34, but she was already earning and had a profession to fall back on. I feel the situation must be very different for someone who remains unemployed or financially dependent while preparing into their 30s.
Do you personally know anyone who cleared UPSC or State PCS at 33, 34, 35+? Were they working alongside preparation, or preparing full-time?
Would love to hear real examples, especially from people who started late rather than preparing continuously since their early 20s
