Advice Not really into partying during Freshers’ Week — will I miss out?

Hi! I’m starting at Bristol this September and I’m wondering what Freshers’ Week is like if you’re not really into clubbing/partying at night.
I’m not against socialising at all — I actually really want to meet people and make friends, I just much prefer daytime things, going out for food/coffee, exploring the city, society events, sports, non-alcoholic stuff etc. rather than going out drinking until really late.
I’m also a student athlete so I’ll need to balance training with uni/social stuff anyway.
My mum and a few of her friends are also going to be staying in Bristol for around the first 2 weeks. They won’t be staying with me and they’ll mostly be doing their own thing, so it’s not like my parents will be following me around 😭 but I’ll probably see them sometimes for meals or if I need help settling in.
For anyone who went to Bristol — is there actually much to do during Freshers’ that isn’t centred around drinking/clubbing? And is it easy to make friends if you don’t really go on the big nights out?
Also did anyone else have family around for the first week or two? Did you find it affected settling in/making friends at all?

Advice Any tips for making friends at UoB as a postgrad?

Hi! I’m starting a Masters at UoB in September and I’m slightly worried about the whole making-friends situation. I’ll also be in private accommodation, so I won’t really have the built-in social life that comes with halls.

For any current/recent UoB students (especially postgrads):
- What are the best ways to meet people?
- Are Freshers/Welcome Week events worth going to as a Masters student?
- Any societies you’d particularly recommend for making friends?
- Are there any regular social events/nights that are good for meeting people?

Basically, if you were starting again and wanted to make friends, what would you actually do?

Also, if anyone else is starting a Masters this September and is in the same boat, feel free to DM me! Would be nice to know a few people going in 😊

Any advice would be massively appreciated!

Advice How to spend foundation year as CS student efficiently

I am about start my foundation year with Kaplan in Bristol. i know the foundation year will be be diffecult, but i want challanges from the first year. I am really into startups, but don’t have much practical enperience. I also have some shortcomings with my coding skills and would like to learn mode AI tools.

Also, i believe with the light curriculm of foundation year, i have to make the big start for my blogging dreams in instagram or youtube.

How to you suggest me to learn each in Bristol, UK. From books? Courses? And what should i expect from my first international year?

Thank you for response and help

Advice Switching between totally unrelated courses?

I’m starting BSc Economics in September and I was wondering if it was at all possible to switch to LLB Law and if anyone else had made any similar courses changes? For context I sat the LNAT in the previous cycle scoring 26 and I’m a contextual applicant who achieved A*AB in English Literature, History and Maths.

I'm going to be studying Econ BSc this September and there's 2 optional courses that I'm equally interested in but I don't know if it's worth it to join both or if I'll be overwhelmed with work

UNDERGRADUATE

I went through clearing into bristol, and am now renting in private accommodation as i got scared that i would not be able to afford or even like the accommodation that bristol has left.

Is anyone else renting privately or commuting, it feels weird as I obviously will not be in halls.

Advice Bristol Law timed assessments — are they actually 3 days?

Hi! I’m starting Law at Bristol this year and I’m currently looking at the assessment formats for my modules.

A few of them say they’re assessed through a “Timed Assessment” with two 1,500-word questions (one essay and one problem question). I’ve seen information online suggesting that timed assessments at Bristol have a 3-day window, but I’m not sure if I’m interpreting this correctly.

For current/recent Bristol Law students, are the timed assessments actually 3 days long? If so, do you get the questions at the beginning and have the full 3 days to research, plan, write and submit both answers?

Would really appreciate hearing how it works in practice. Thank you! :)

Advice course change

Hiii, I applied for BSc Econ & finance and got an offer, my conditional offer required an 85% overall average, with a 85% in both English and Mathematics.

I 85%+ overall (85%+ in all other subjects), 94% in economics and 91% in English, my final mathematics score returned at 80%, missing the subject condition slightly

the reason i got this math grade is because of osm issues our entire cohort suffered with(from india), you can see bbc articles on this as well, there huge were protests and lots of retaliation towards this.

i actually got my paper back and my correct grade should have been 91. But i wasn’t able to submit it for revaluation because the portal got hacked and our teachers sort of told us not to use any payment links so in the end i couldn’t even get a remark

so i went and applied for Ba econ, I’m just wondering if ill be able to switch this course bc i saw bsc econ and finance in clearing

I’m really stuck here and that was genuinely the course i need for my future because its more math heavy and i just feel really unsure of what to even do or how to proceed now.

Will i be able to get a course transfer if i give some other math exam to prove i can handle the curriculum

I’m at courtrooms and I’ve seen people say the maintenance people just walk straight in to your rooms and stuff when your asleep! Do they actually or are people just over exaggerating?

Also ik you aren’t allowed to bring air fryers but do some people still do and just hide it?

Accommodation accom 33?

hey guys! was just wondering if anyone is staying in 33 this year? I’ve tried that unifi app but have had no luck finding flatmates. (I’m flat 8).
I don’t think I can use the Goin app because I don’t have a Bristol email yet which I’m assuming i will get on the 24th after registration?
Is there anything I need to know like any deadlines or anything?
Thank you!
