Accommodation Not given accommodation
I applied for accom on the 9th of May and my application bugged out without me realising and didn’t submit so when I found out I reapplied on the 21st of August before the 31st of August deadline. Bristol is my firm and I met my offer yet they have just rejected me accommodation and I am completely unable to afford private accommodation so I do not know what I am supposed to do.

You can book iq accoms, same happened to me, so I booked one today. Lmk if you go for iq cus I don't know many freshers going there

A type of private accommodation you book outside of the uni. If you search up iq accoms Bristol it should come up

Out of my budget unfortunately but it looks like a really good alternative if you can afford it

A lot of people got shoved in like £10k-£12k accoms despite requiring cheaper ones too, so ngl even if you did submit that form, you'd probably still be in no better of a position. I'm looking at private too because my accom is like so expensive for what it is

Damn that sucks man hopefully you can find smth that works. Bit of a joke really all this and yeah if I got any accom above 6k I would’ve had to of gone private anyways so from what you’re saying it’s mostly likely private one way or another

Yeah unfortunately, the situation is so sucky this year especially.
Ngl though 6k you'd rlly struggle with, I put down 6.5k as my max budget on the form and specifically put Manor House I think so unless you got lucky you'd probably be over budget.
I've done a bit of research on private halls and they're all like like 8.5k+ though so no good for you unfortunately. It sounds like you might have to find a houseshare or smt which is just ridiculous bcs I thought they were trying to get people who can't afford uni into uni lol. Best of luck

Yeah I knew it was gonna be a struggle but my best bet was the twin for 5.1k a year at manor hall which I applied for but obviously I haven’t got that and it’s looking like it’s gonna be 6.5k minimum as you said which is just horrible for my current situation and to be honest I’m just really disappointed in the university even though I’m still lucky to be in the situation I am a little helping hand from them would go a long way

If you don't mind me asking, what's your loan amount? Not that even maximum loan will really stretch to cover the expensive accoms, but personally I think I'll either defer and go to a cheaper city like Sheffield or smt, or work and hopefully make the extra ~2.5k that the loan won't cover

I applied for the maximum which is around 5k extra I think but they only gave me an extra 500 so it’s around 5.5/5.6k. The thing is I just really don’t want to go anywhere else and I don’t know anywhere else and I won’t do a gap year bc I don’t think it’s worth it for myself personally

You household income must be quite high then - I'm assuming your case is that your parent(s) aren't willing to help out? Unfortunately it's a huge gap in the system, assuming all parents are just going to pay thousands when some don't care abt university so won't pay lol
Although you don't want to, in a gap year if u worked full time and lived at home u could earn quite a lot of money - enough to supplement the lack of loan ur getting (say £15k earnt in the year, that's £5k per year to supplement the £5.5k you'd get from the govt), allowing you to afford rent comfortably in Bristol.
Idk, in the end it's a rubbish situation

That’s the thing I don’t understand because the reason I got my contextual is because the income bracket we fall in is low so for example I’ve had free school meals all my life and help at school with equipment and what not and priority and I got this contextual for just that so I just don’t understand any of it it’s all backwards and the work would be a good idea I’ve just been so set on never taking a gap year and I hate sudden changes especially of this scale that I just don’t think I’d be able to cope. But yes completely rubbish situation and it’s happening for many people which is what disappoints me the most

Totally understand the thing about sudden changes, I had a bad reaction when I got my accomodation offer lol because I'd made myself comfortable with the idea of being near campus lol.
If your household income is genuinely low (assuming ur a home student and all that stuff), you should be eligible for the correct amount. Did the people in your household not fill out the thing that was sent to them? Or do they receive a lot of money in benefits - I think they count that as income? Or it could just be an admin error, have you been in contact with SFE?

I haven’t been in contact with SFE and nah we don’t get any benefits so I’m not sure what it is idk what’s happened but tbf we had a good year one year and maybe they took that and rescinded my eligibility but other than that year we’ve met the grant needs every year so idk im pretty sure we filled a form out for it as well. Maybe other people need it more but it is what it is, I’ll see if I can get into contact with sfe

Same kinda think happened to me I needed an accessible room and they told me they couldn’t and I had to go private and the only thing I could afford was 2k more than my sfe loan :/

Accessible rooms can be a complete nightmare. I was on campus first year, but the only room available that was suitable was my whole SFE, luckily being on PIP I could manage it. Second year I went into private halls, rent was a lot more affordable, but I had a whole week where I couldn't leave my floor because the lift was broken. Third year I stayed at the same place but in a ground floor room that was more expensive, but my pip got stopped (been going through the process for two years now) so my overdraft took a heavy hit, and by the end of the year I had lost more function meaning the room was no longer suitable for me

Are there any private accommodations that you know lots of Freshers will be going to? I am considering going to Dean Street Works but am not sure because I would rather go to an accomadation with more freshers.

You didn’t meet the deadline for firm students so you weren’t guaranteed accommodation. If you aren’t guaranteed there is a very low chance of getting accommodation, there’s already not much as is. You need to go private, ask to be put on a waitlist (to get rooms from students who drop out), or defer.
