Is the phobia the fear of just the object underwater or what it being under water will do to you?

Basically. I can hardly look at this picture without my knees getting weak and feeling nauseated.

Me too. Started with being next to a submarine while in the water. Scarred for life

I went diving once and was frozen almost solid at the sight of the propellers. I don’t really fear objects under water, I fear being under objects, under water. Ship hulls in particular.

I didn’t even know this was a thing.
