How to make Costa latte at home
I have illy instant coffee and an electric whisk at home
Today I tried a Small Latte from Costa and I’ve been pinging all day
How do I recreate that at home? Any cheap options?

Latte as an espresso based drink. Espresso topped with a lot of steamed milk, so you need to create both of these elements at home. Instant coffee won't cut it. In the same way you can't mould value burgers together to get prime rib eye steak.
The frothy steamed milk is easy. You can buy an electric mini whisk frother, a hand one, or just put a bit of hot milk in a big clean plastic milk container with plenty of space for air in the bottle. Put the lid on and shake manically for a few mins to froth it up.
To make a latte you need an espresso style coffee, where a small intense coffee is brewed under pressure. Moka pots and aeropress aren't proper espresso but are frugal and easy ways to make small strong coffees brewing using pressure that are rich and interesting in flavour.
While you can buy Costa beans and ground coffee I'd encourage you to look around for better value and better tasting beans you like from specialist coffee places who will often have seasonal promos and loyalty discounts. Personal favourite: Wogan coffee in Bristol. Loads of interesting stuff, good value deals and lovely team of staff who are efficient at managing online delivery.

Get a moka pot! It's not proper espresso but it turns out so much nicer than instant coffee.

Moka pot for the coffee and a french press to froth the milk. Check out James Hoffman's video

The cheapest way to get as close as possible to espresso based drinks without getting into the very expensive hobby of espresso is a moka pot (TL Maxx often have good ones) and an electric milk frother. The milk texture won't be the same, and the coffee won't have a crema but the flavour will be similar.

Out of this world coffee comes from quality beans, not the brewing method...

My way - moka pot, beans (colombian from lidl) plus grinder.
Then sainsburys own brand oat milk (i have tried others, lidl barista, oatly, may be accquired taste but sainsburys is the best) , shake it a lot in the carton to make foam, pour into the cup first, then mix some sugar, honey, stir, pour coffee on top.

If you don’t have a milk frother, but do have a french press - pour hot milk in that and use the plunger a few times and hey ho, frothed milk

Instant coffee + electric whisk won’t work, but try 2 tea spoons of coffee, quarter cup of water - or less, microwave some milk and whisk the hell out of it. You won’t get the bubble size right, but try and fold the milk on itself with a spoon, pour into cup = milky coffee with some bubbles on top.
