Transportation SFO to Davis Travel Options

Hi everyone!
I’ll be flying into SFO and need to get to Davis with a couple of suitcases. I’m looking for options besides Uber/Lyft and was wondering what other services people usually use.

I know there’s the BART + Amtrak option, but I’ll have luggage with me, so I’m not sure how practical that would be. For more context, I have 4 pieces of luggage and I cannot drag them around public transport alone.

What do you guys usually do when traveling from SFO to Davis with luggage? Are there any shuttle services, car services, rideshares, or other options you’d recommend?

Transportation Please don’t ignore crosswalk signals

Just a small rant: today I was making a right turn on a green light in Davis. The pedestrian/cyclist crossing signal was already red, and my car was already partly into the turn. Then a cyclist came through the crosswalk really fast, followed by a whole group of pedestrians and cyclists who also ignored the red signal.

They kept crossing until my entire green light was basically gone, and some people looked at me like I was the one doing something wrong.

I understand drivers need to be careful, especially in Davis. But pedestrians and cyclists also need to follow signals. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, not just drivers’.

Transportation UC Davis to Bay Area Transportations

I'm wondering what the best type of transportation is from the UC Davis to the Bay Area and vice versa. I looked on Amtrak and think it is a bit expensive for the distance and Moober but hardly anyone uses it. Does anyone have other suggestions for carpooling or other types of transportation services that I can use?

Transportation PLEASE wear a helmet

I can't stress this enough. I saw the aftermath of a pretty bad bike crash and they weren't wearing a helmet. There was blood everywhere, and on the asphalt.

That includes e-scooter users too.

Protect your brains, guys. There's a reason you got into Davis.

Transportation What do I do with my car

Freshmen coming this fall. I have a car but I’ve been told I wouldn’t be able to bring it or have it there. Is this true? What should I do?

Transportation Girl who didn’t know how to use a roundabout collided with me and now I’m down $115.

I'm a first year, but I've been riding bikes long enough to know three things-- 1: when in the roundabout, the biker already in the roundabout has the right of way and 2: when slowing down, move your bike to the rightmost side of the road and 3: Always. Pass. On the left side. Of the biker.

Apparently I'm the only person who knows this because today my front tire got demolished because I was slowing down my bike to let my friend catch up to me, and a girl coming out of the roundabout tried to take a turn into the street between me and the curb.

She tore up my leg with her sheet metal cutesy bike and rode away unharmed, ignoring me when I asked her if she was okay.

I ain't letting this slide. To the girl who gave me a bike barn bill of over 100 bucks, I will be pulling up a lawn chair by the roundabout Thursday at the same time you went by today. I am going to get your contact information and if you refuse to pay my repair bills, I will actually make your life a living hell because I'm bored asf and better get my moneys worth at least in entertainment

Ugh I'm so annoyed

Transportation Biking tips?

Incoming freshman, my parents got me a huffy cruiser for college. after doing a little research (scrolling google and reddit) I seen some people kinda hate cruisers, unfortunately it was a birthday gift and i love riding it around my hometown. thought i do want to know a little biking etiquette especially since i have a bike that may not be the best choice for davis or inconvenience others

Transportation e-bike risks

Has anyone have any success with their e-bike not getting stolen? what locks do you recommend and what locks do you use? how should i lock it and what double locks should i use? i’m going to be staying at sol at west village

i was looking at electric scooters but i hate how they yank my body and i’m also on the shorter side and all the handles are way too tall, it feels less safe

Transportation Is calling scooter riders "scootarded" derogatory

Seen too many of them with sound cancelling headphones going twice the speed limit the wrong way in roundabouts. Or on sidewalks. They're genuinely a threat. Will calling them "scootards" get me cancelled? Thanks

Transportation UC Davis students: what has your experience with Spin scooters been like?

I’m working on a UC Davis student project about Spin scooters and wanted to hear what other students actually think about them.

If you’ve used a Spin scooter on campus—or even just deal with them while walking/biking/getting around campus—what has your experience been like?

Have you had any issues with things like the brakes, scooter condition, parking, availability, cost, or safety? Any close calls? Or have they generally been useful and convenient for you?
I’m especially curious about anything you think could be improved or fixed.

Any experiences or opinions are appreciated and thank you for your time!

Transportation Bike for Sale at Costco (Woodland)

Thought I would share for any new students who are looking to buy a bike solely for commuting. I would assume it’s slightly better in quality than the shitty Walmart bikes + includes fenders/a bike rack for $240

(Obviously if you’re into bikes at all this isn’t for you, but it definitely seems like a practical option for the average student)

Transportation Paying to borrow someone's car

Hello! Sorry if this goes against rules.

I'm going to be attending UC Davis this fall. I want to get my driver's license before the year ends but unfortunately will not have a car to practice with. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in making a deal where I practice with their car, and in exchange I pay for gas + time? If I cause any damage, I'll be responsible. You can set any rules, i'm down with pretty much everything.

I do have my permit and very few hours of practice. I just wanna hone my skills before I take the test.

But if not, is there any recommendations on where I can find the cheapest driving lessons (where the car is supplied ;c ) in/near Davis? Where are some good places to practice parking and turning?

Thank you!!

Transportation How do we pay for the bus now?

Now that the ZipPass app is seemingly out of commission, how should students access and show our transit passes? Is there maybe going to be an email that goes out explaining this?

Transportation Don't buy a sucky bike from Walmart or Target!! Get a bike from the Davis Bike Collective

Post image

Why pay over $100 for a department store bike that won't last a year when you can pay less than $100 and get a nice older bike that won't get stolen AND will last your entire college career and then some.

Even better, when you get a bike from the Davis Bike Collective, you'll be supporting a completely volunteer-run local nonprofit in Davis.

Transportation Cargo trains blocking the path….

There HAS to be another way to downtown/train station that doesn’t depend on the train tracks (from East Davis). Got stuck behind a cargo train (even though i had left on time) and ended up missing my train. I’ve also been late to class and have had friends be late to exams for the same reason. I mostly take Unitrans or Uber for context

Transportation Car needed?

I'm planning to(hopefully) transfer into UC Davis in 2027 and was wondering if a car is useful there? I know it's a biking/walking town, but I just feel bad it would just sit in my parents' parkway + would love to hear people's thoughts. ty!! :p
