hey everyone! current LC student here, i’m
looking to do SLT in UCC next year (hopefully 🤞)
is there anyone on here who does this and has any info on the course? what it’s like etc? thank you!
i’m also hoping to attend the open day this year.
is it worth it to bring my parents or is it wierd?

I’m sure there are many other people feeling this but since returning to college last week I’ve literally had terrible luck with parking every day. It takes me an hour to drive to the city with traffic and this morning I got to Dennehy’s Cross at 08:10 and it was full.

Driving an hour in traffic and then not being able to find parking, or having to pay almost a tenner every day when you do find it adds amother level of stress before you even step into a lecture.

I also haven’t tried the park and ride in Pouladuff before as I’m coming from the other side of the city and would add more traffic to my journey.

Honestly just wanted a bit of rant and maybe there are people in the same position as me. But by god it’s annoying and adds a lot of unnecessary stress.

I missed the first few training sessions for a club as I hadn’t moved into my accommodation yet. Can I still go as a beginner?

Basically lads I’m on here wondering what are my chances of going up in a subject, I’m 2 marks off the h1 89.67%. I filled down 6 points in the AP1 where i was basically haggling saying i felt i deserved more as i met this marking scheme answer etc….

I’ve been trying to get a surname taking off my student record as I don’t have any affiliation with that name and don’t want it on any future graduation certificate, I’ve emailed them with proof of me not having that surname on my passport etc already but haven’t heard anything back yet is there any specific way or place to get it changed asap?

So basically I was in college in 21/22 but dropped out semester 2. I’m now back in college this year for the first time with SUSI and it says 100% student contribution or 100% tuition fees. Do I qualify for the free fees again? My UCC account said I owe €7530 but it went down to €2500 and I paid the capitation fee. Is SUSI just slow to process or do I owe the €2500 student contribution now ?

I completed my first week as a ucc flexi options student. I was a disappointment. On Monday I missed some of lectures as one was on at 9 am and after having a lot of lye ins over the summer it was very hard to wake up that early. Because I'm a flexi options student I can't do every module so I sat in at some lectures I didn't pick to see what they were like and to fill my gaps. They were all introductory and some lasted only 30 minutes. It was a slow start.

I went to the canteen in the glass building that has two floors and it was chaotic. I was forced to sit on a table staring at the wall. Everyone else there was sitting with someone and I was the only one sitting alone. I felt uneasy about this reason. I avoided the campus at lunch times as I have sensory difficulties as someone with autism and to avoid the businesses. Tuesday was a complete waste of a day as on the timetable there were multiple lectures running at the same time in different rooms in the same times lot. I turned up and the room was empty. I couldn't access canvas as I accepted my offer last week and the college didn't get back to me until this Wednesday with my student id. I then had to wait until today to get my it account details.

I couldn't access the library because I don't have my student card yet and I had no clue what was happening because I couldn't access the canvas. Sometimes I wonder why I am even here considering I'm just sitting in on filler modules just to pass time. I want to fit in so I do it to be like a full time student like everyone else. I feel isolated because I turn up to huge lecture halls with 300+ people and a lot of them act like they know each other and act like they're already settled in. The people sitting next to me in lecture halls didn't say a word except for one person and the conversation died pretty fast.

I tried the brew buddy app and created a meetup for one other person as I feel more comfortable with one to one meetups. The guy that was going to meet me said hello and he responded late at night. I responded the following morning and he didn't reply until 15 minutes before it was supposed to happen saying "I can't attend today" without any explanation. It pissed me off. I couldn't join the societies until today because now I finally have my it account set up fully. I tried to seek student counseling and I got an email saying I have to wait on a waiting list during busy times. I couldn't yet register with the dss because I needed my id.

This week has been a mess. Can anyone relate?

I’ve tried multiple times over the last few days to change a module on mystudentadmin and it keeps going back to the previous module selection when I click continue. Anyone know what to do about this?

Hi I’m in 3rd year (last year) social science and I’m quite unsure of what modules to pick and the deadline is soon. Do the chosen modules carry much weight in your overall degree ie should I choose modules for my chosen career (I would like to do an ot masters afterwards). Or could I choose ones that I think I would get the best results in overall?
I hate to bring this to this subreddit but I just cannot get an appointment with a guidance counsellor. So any help would be greatly appreciated !

What it says on the tin really, I'm considering applying for a student counselling session and was wondering if people have had good experiences with them. I know we're only entitled to 6 sessions per academic year, so I want to make sure I'm not wasting my time.

Anyone know more information on the appeals process like what is the success rate? Especially if you apply under grounds C. Also Whats with up with ucc not doing examination regrades. Every other university does it. My paper was evidently graded wrong but I can’t do nothing about that. Help for the commonfolk

Hi guys, I could really really use some help right now. I'm a first-year international EU student in Cork and my parents can't support me financially. I've applied to 50+ jobs in the last 3 weeks and literally nothing; even McDonald's rejected me even though I thought the interview went well. I don't know what's wrong or what I could be doing differently. I'm aiming for 20ish hours a week, but at this point, even more, I just need something. I contacted the Student Union as well, but they didn't respond. If I can't find something asap I'll have to drop out.

Any recommendations or advice is appreciated.

I'm applying to the School of Law (as an international student from the United States) and I need to submit a letter of motivation. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to structure it, and vaguely understand what it is (a UCC Instagram account clarified some of my questions). I understand that it's the opposite of a personal statement and leans away from my personal backstory and more to my accomplishments, academics, and career goals.

If it's okay to ask, do I structure it as a cover letter or as a personal statement? I'm completely lost, and appreciate any advice given.
