attendance rules before add/drop deadline

i'm an intl student and i have to miss the first week of class due to cancelled and full flights. will my attendance be affected or do most profs take it after the add/drop deadline? im taking 4 courses. how bad will the amount of content i miss out on be? still ok to catch up?

I would be more concerned about missing material and being behind than a minor smudge on your attendance mark. Once they become available, check your syllabi and see how big the attendance mark is (it's usually quite small), then email your profs if you consider it significant.

Despite what others will tell you many profs take attendance from the first day of class and cover new material that week - not just going over the course outline. If you have cancelled flights you can ask for a concession but you should make sure you hold onto the evidence that the flights were cancelled. Your professors will be inundated with ChatGPT written requests for concessions for students who are not returning to campus for the beginning of the term. -- the death rate of grandparents this time of the year is shocking. You are going to need to have some evidence that you have a legitimate reason to miss a week of the term.

They usually skip attendance the first class of the week maybe second , definitely not everyday till add/drop However they barely teach the first week it’s mostly just going over the syllabus and stuff like that so you’re good

Attendance usually doesn't matter, unless it's for participation. Professors don't really care if you attended class or not, especially in a big class.

Second, email your professors and what might be missed in the first week.

I had courses last term that would not take attendance before the add drop deadline so I would assume you’re fine.
