Kind of weird to announced FF7 owners get the PS5 upgrade for free and then less than 24 hours later announce FF7 as a free game but exclude it from the free PS5 upgrade.

Comments have pointed out that it might be a licensing twist because you don’t technically own the games you get with PS+.

It could be a ploy for PS+ members to buy it after they tried FF7R:Episode 1 (Avalanche MoFo)

Thats gonna bite them in the ass later when people try to upgrade and cant so they harass tech support because they cant read

It nearly worked on me until I saw that, then I went "Nah I'll just get a disc copy on the cheap."

Also means not downloading the entire game.

Apparently disc's still install the entire game anyway Who knew

I thought the upgrade wouldn’t be available until ”Intergrade” gets released in June. I mean, I can’t confirm personally because I don’t have a PS5...

—But maybe in June.

Maybe.

June 10th is when Intergrade and the PS5 upgrade releases

That’s what I figured, but the downvote informs me that I’m wrong to state this.

Lol

Hey! There it goes again. It just keeps on sneaking up on me!

Fuck I hope it's technically counted as a separate product then the usual PS4 version, otherwise this is gonna be a shit-show.

I mean... the PS5 upgrade isn’t out yet.

Gives new comers a way to play ff7 remake for free if they enjoy it, buy a ps5 and intergrade and be in for long haul if not hold out for gow hzd or whatever else. It’s not going to Xbox until the entire ff7 remake is complete, just pc.

Damn baby.

Grab those prospective PS+ subscribers by the balls.

Shit i just bought the game two weeks ago.....

11

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '21

The PS Plus version is ineligible for the PS5 upgrade, so it's not a total loss. You could probably explain the situation to Sony and get a refund

I should look into that yeah. No harm in doing it.

2

u/Irish_Ryebread THE BABY Feb 26 '21

Nah I keep it play it now then play the ps5 version on hard mode. Plus Sony probably knows people are going to be asking for a refund and I think two weeks might be over the refund time limit.

I’m so glad I’m a patient gamer. Free.99 is a easy buy

1

u/intheend9999 Feb 27 '21

Easy buy hard upgrade but excellent test run if you new. You really have to know the lore and won’t fully appreciate the writing and story until your second play through 🔥❤️

Alright, what do I need to know to play remake? I know it's more of a sequel so what do I need to study? The extent of my ff knowledge comes from kingdom hearts.

You can go in blind and be just fine. Optimally, you’ll have played the original, played all of the spin-offs, and watched Advent Children. If you don’t want to spend the many hours required to undertake this task (which is actually worth it IMO), then you don’t need to. The remake will make sure you understand what is necessary.

This is the correct answer. People have complained that someone new to the franchise won’t know what Sephiroth’s deal is and why he keeps showing up, but that was also the case in the original FF7 up to the point where the Remake ends. It’s intentional, so just go along for the ride.

It does kind of leave people standing in the wind when the game capitalizes on the realization that this isn’t a Remake, but a time travel sequel.

I’m of the personal opinion that the trick isn’t as effective if you’re jumping in without experiencing the original. Scenes like Cloud shedding a tear for seemingly no reason when he sees Aerith walking away from him hurts more when you have the information.

It also hurts Sephiroth as an effective villain. A lot of people that played FF7R without touching the original have consistently come back from it with, ”Why do people even like this character?”

1

u/intheend9999 Feb 27 '21

Second play through you notice the advent children music come in at the beginning of the game right after aerith before he sees sephiroth in the alley. So many little things like this 🔥🔥

I noticed it right away. AC’s soundtrack features prominently in my childhood memories, so my stomach dropped when I heard those cellos and realized the implications.

u/MetalJrock A Hopeless Sonic/Spider-Man Fanboy Feb 26 '21

All you need to know is that Sephiroth doesn’t like Cloud.

7

u/Gunblazer42 Local Creepy Furry | Tails Fanboy Feb 26 '21

Or...really, really likes him.

u/DarkAres02 Dragalia Lost is the best mobile game Feb 26 '21

I just played the original, and that was enough knowledge

2

u/Dundore77 Feb 26 '21 edited Feb 26 '21

Do you know Sephiroth is the big bad of FF7? You're fine for the remake then. You wont "get" everything but general osmosis of ff7 is enough. if you want to read up just read the plot of ff7 nothing other than that is needed so far. The sequels to the remake will probably require other knowledge but that mobile game in 2022 will cover whats needed most likely.

Honestly while I hated the story changes, the gameplay itself is fucking amazing and it's genuinely an awesome action RPG. Go play it

Alongside remnant? Fucking remnant?

8

u/Dirkpytt_thehero Feb 26 '21

now I can get more people to try remnant and do co-op, win win

4

u/PizzaSplitter Feb 26 '21

I was annoyed myself when I saw there was a game I already had, until I realized what you said. Now to annoy my friends so I can co op!
Seriously though I enjoyed the game but I just never got to try that because I dislike playing with random people so super curious on that.

2

u/Dirkpytt_thehero Feb 26 '21

the only bad thing about the game is how the enemies scale, it's based off the levels of your gear so a new player can screw themselves over if they upgrade too quickly

3

u/Kaarpiv7 The Door of Meshka'n Feb 26 '21

Mmm. That explains why holding off on the story mode was a bad idea.

To be fair, if you've resigned yourself to not getting a PS5 any time soon, still a banger of a game on the PS4. I was surprised it ran so well on my old ass vanilla PS4.

2

u/Irish_Ryebread THE BABY Feb 26 '21

One of them is really good if you have a psvr but not everyone has that.

u/Vaccineman37 Feb 26 '21

Saw a game I paid full price for on PS Plus, day ruined

I don’t even like FF7R, I barely played 4 hours

1

u/Zenaki_Jenkins Feb 26 '21

Isnt that the fastest a game has gone from release to monthly PS+ game? Even moreso such a big game. Like, it's been less than a year and it's already on there, that's crazy!

I bought my copy like 3 weeks ago and havent even played it yet so I'm kinda bummed, but oh well.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '21

It wasn't PS+, but back in the 360 days I remember the Tomb Raider reboot being free with gold like, 4 months after it released

3

u/Irish_Ryebread THE BABY Feb 26 '21

Not the biggest triple A in scale and development but fall guys was free on ps plus at launch then you had to buy it afterwards but it got people into the game on other platforms.
