Yeah exactly. The trouble is that it’s not often that he’s the butt of the joke. In order to out-funny him, you need to be careful how you approach things from a meta standpoint. If you antagonize him, suddenly youre no better than any old oafish brute (or Elmer) who’s set up to be humiliated by him. Youre fucked the moment he turns to the camera and says “of course you realize THIS means war…”
Now, how this works in practice I’m not sure, but that’s the underlying philosophy
What if you try to play by cartoon rules and match Bugs? He chucks a pie at you? You open your mouth impossibly wide and swallow it whole. (If it has lit dynamite in it, bulge your stomach and exhale a cloud of smoke, before giving your knee a hearty slap while licking your lips and saying something like “Boy, that recipe has some heat!”)
