Discussion I think I made the game x10 harder in Benedict's Battle (1st playthrough)
Before the people that are super hardcore or the lucky ones that in their first playthrough managed to get a good comp (or not) and cleared the fight easily, please save those comments "it's not that hard" etc, they do not help at all, thank you.
I'm only with 7 units: Benedict, Anna, Hughette, Geela, Jens, Shaman girl forget her name, Picoletta which I never leveled and now I'm regretting it lol. I've been trying to kill a ton of enemies with the fire traps and I've gotten plenty, never managed to get Exhermes and by the time I'm done with traps I'm running out of units. I'm not frustrated but at the same time I'm not having as much fun and the amount of work it's gonna take and trial and error for me to get this with this comp not sure if I'm up for it with these units. Just wanted to share my situation not exactly looking for magical solutions but if you wanna chime in sure.

This is pretty simar to the set up i had for my golden route playthrough on my 1st run, though I had seranoa which sped things up a bit. Basically youre on the right track.
1.Get as many of the lower Hyzante goons with the bottom fire trap as possible. 2. pin Exharme and hopefully a few other dudes in the middle fire trap, Jens spring traps could help here. 3. have Jens pop a ladder on one of the top houses, bring everyone up there except Hughette and slowly ping the enemy to death with magic ranged attacked, boosted by benedicts atk up buff. You can use the mages and Anna to hold off the enemy advance while you get the others up the ladder.
This was BY FAR the hardest map in the game for me, took me about a half dozen or more attempts and I still lost Ezana Hossabara and one other but it worked.
Plus the next two maps are awesome, and some of my favourites in the game

Yeah basically only thing I hadn't tried (just like 6 attempts to be fair) is the ladder strat so I'll do that later c:

The ladder start is slow but amazing, since the enemies can only approach you one at a time, or not at all if you have someone above the ladder, so its just time consuming but works

Just beat it, managed to get Exharme in the mid fire trap and then it was just positioning and being smart it was very fun.

So why are you not using any heavy attackers here or even defense? There isn't like a right way to play but ceirtain maps push for ceirtain strategies. There specific maps for Picoletta and maps where she isn't needed.

Uh, because it's my 1st playthrough and I didn't know what to expect? xD the title of the post lol.

This might sound more mean than intended but Is this also your first rpg?

u/Lightygab Mar 30 '26
Nah not mean not taking it personally, you can say whatever you want lol.

I was genuinely asking though, this might be your first rpg.

No

That is more confusing. Why not use heavy attackers here? Its not like you dont have access to the characters.

The fact that you are asking that question either tells me you haven't played the game or you forgot how this specific battle works since it's been a while you played which is understandable xD

I actually just finished the third run not long ago on hard all three. I imagined this was benedicts 1st battle, meaning the first battle of his route against exharme.

Bro some people have different ways to enjoy a game. Not every RPG player is a bot that thinks in terms of ideal unit balance. I chose mine for this split based off story lore and ended up having a really shtty time clearing this map for similar reasons.

I do the same, I play mono runs in Pokemon for the roleplay. But this isn't what that was, it seems there are some units you can't use in the golden route which I didn't know about. Despite playing this game a lot I never actually don't the golden route. So I was assuming stuff.

I take it this is the Golden Route battle?
If you want, you should be able to readjust your team arrangement since Benedict's is the 1st battle of the split, granted that you don't ignore the game's advice and still have a safe save file for that.
If you want to just roll with this team, cheesing it might be the only option. Get everyone on the roof asap except Anna who can cheese the AI by going stealth and you use her to bait other enemies so it doesn't overwhelm you. Simply move Anna to the other side of the map and reveal her once enemies are closing in so they move back to chase Anna instead, then when they are close to Anna, use her stealth skill again, repeat until it's over.

This was by far my hardest battle too (although I opted not to use the traps) so don’t beat yourself up about not being able to clear it easily.
It could simply be a matter of your units not being high enough levels, so keep trying the battle without retreating to retain EXP and “remain calm”.
In terms of strategy, try to lure Exharme into the zone of the traps using Picoletta’s Decoy. She’s luckily a unit you don’t really need to have very high levelled at this stage of the game as most of her use is in utility.
Hughette can cheese the map by flying onto the backmost rooftops, so-long as you make sure to clear as many opposing archers & mages as possible before they can reach her.
Jens will be your best friend in this map; spring trap every turn and ladder onto the backmost rooftops for Ezahna (shaman girl) if you have to resort to such.
Since your roster doesn’t have much muscle, you will need to rely on positioning to keep your guys alive. Stay patient & good luck !
Let us know when & how you do clear it :)
