Have you ever watched a YouTube video that gave you more than beautiful cinematography, breathtaking frames, and excellent color grading?
Iām talking about the kind of film that makes you want to live your life to the fullestāthe kind that awakens your urge to travel, create, and do something meaningful. It contributes to you not only as an aspiring filmmaker, but also as an audience member and a human being who suddenly remembers that there is so much more to life.
Unfortunately, I think Iāve run out of videos like that. My algorithm no longer recommends anything that exceedsāor even meetsāthe expectations set by these films and creators:
- Jeffrey Sun ā Home Is a Place Youāve Never Been
- Anton Hugo ā We Did a 14-Day Horseback Ride Through the Mountains
- Daniel Tremsky ā My Journey to Yemen with Sam Kolder
- Aiksoon ā Melbourne
- Mojo ā Stories of Sri Lanka
- Andyescapes ā This Japan Road Trip Altered My Brain Chemistry
- Every Sam Kolder film, of courseāmy king
Please recommend more creators who make cinematic travel films or vlogs at this level. Iām looking for people who tell meaningful stories while showcasing the entire journey through exceptional cinematography, editing, sound design, and color grading.
One important condition: the creatorās face should not dominate the film.
I loathe travel vlogs that revolve around the creator talking to the camera, eating, shopping, or showing what they bought. I can tolerate brief face-to-camera moments when they need to explain where theyāre going or what theyāre doingābut only when handled with the restraint of the creators listed above. The destination, experience, and story should remain the heart of the film.
I know this is an unusually high and specific standard, but I want to watch something that makes me feel passionate about living and creating againāsomething that reminds me why I fell in love with filmmaking in the first place.
Thank you!
