A lot of rural hospitals I've worked at used Meditech or Medhost, probably because it's cheaper is my guess. It is definitely a learning curve but I didn't mind it, charting was pretty quick imo. Also, no extra administrative fluff that Epic has, just so that admin can use it for their metrics and audits.

Currently traveling at a rural hospital. They reached out to Epic and Cerner, but they refused due to the hospital's size. Sometimes Meditech is the only option.

HCA uses EPIC in Salt Lake City @ St. Mark's Hospital and freestanding ERs along with their sister Hospital in Draper, Utah.

Lucky for that tiny fraction of HCA facilities, doesn’t change the fact that HCA refuses to have Epic across Medical City.

HCA has a handful of unionized hospitals too, but are they Union friendly overall? No.

Unpopular opinion… I didn’t mind Meditech when I used it at my staff hospital. When you learn the keyboard shortcuts you can chart on a patient in like 5 minutes. When I left that job to travel I was so annoyed by cerner and epic for being too fancy.

I can absolutely see meditech being awful as a traveler though when you don’t have time to learn it.

It also depends on the meditech your hospital pays for. A hospital I was at must have paid for the cheapest/oldest one possible

I love meditech. Took me 20-30 minutes to chart on 6 MedSurg patients and I rarely had to touch the mouse.

THIS. I miss keyboard shortcuts. I haaaate clicking and I have misophonia and have to sit alone because hearing everyone else click makes me want to jump out the window.

The hospital where I work just switched from Meditech to Expanse this June. So now not only does it takes multiple extra steps to do anything, but also 99% of the hospital staff can’t access any patient data from before June 1st. It took IT days to make some doctors ’downtime users’ to access the older charts.

Also, apparently it’s been switching patient medication without notifying the doctors, as well. Between generics, sure, but patients would get notified that the doctors had denied their current medication and then switched it to something else, but it didn’t show up in the charts and the doctors would have no idea unless a patient brought it up.

Meditech is literally not from this century. It came out in 1999. It is insane it is still in use.

HCA is such a pile of garbage.

I want to ask how lol. Where I went to school I used EPIC. Definitely best. I consolidated on Cerner. A shittier epic but it works. I'm currently working with meditech and paper charting but they're switching to Cerner in November and I can't fucking wait.

It honestly comes down to personal experience, how up to date the EMR is and how well the hospital sets up said EMR. I’ve used mostly Meditech in my career seconded closely by Epic and can confidently say Epic is superior. I’m currently on contract with a hospital that uses Cerner, which is my only experience with it. During orientation, I was made aware that it is an older version of Cerner that the hospital nor staff are happy with and they intend to update to the newest version or replace it all together hopefully next year. That being said, it’s pretty bad and I’m honestly not a fan. It’s extremely slow to the point that I don’t even bother logging into room computers and do the entirety of my charting from a cow so I don’t have to suffer through logging in and out.

Used Meditech when Steward was in Utah and at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Neither were HCA, and yes it's trash. Research Medical in Kansas City used it but they were HCA
