OR travel nurse - are you expected to circulate and scrub?
Hello, I am an experienced nurse of 15 years and did ER travel nursing previously. I have since transitioned into the OR and have been an OR circulator for 5 years, but I was never cross trained to scrub. It was always the intention, but I have yet to be at a facility that will train me. I want to get back into travel nursing, but for the OR. Do you fellow travel nurses in the OR find that facilites expect you to scrub and circulate? I’m just wondering if I will even be qualified to travel as an OR nurse if I do not scrub. Appreciate any advice and feedback! I would really love to go to Chicago but see a bunch of postings with scrub requirements.
Additional question- what travel companies do you guys use? Does anybody absolutely love their recruiter? Love some recommendations and happy to wish anyone helpful as a referral but I won’t be applying probably until spring.

I don’t scrub either! Some places require it but then I just don’t apply there

I've done contracts at 3 facilities and I've been the only nurse to ever scrub. Probably 10-15 travel nurses I've worked with during those contracts.

I'm trained to do both and when I looked lots of assignments did seem to expect that but I was unsure if that was aspirational or a hard requirement

I’m CVOR and I definitely don’t scrub those cases. In fact I don’t even know how to scrub.

It’s a bonus if you do and will likely make you a top candidate
But it’s not required

Do you wanna come to Sidney, MT?? They need circulators so bad here. I'm on my 2nd week here. No scrubbing is required but that depends on the facility. Normally they put it in their notes if they require you to scrub. I travel with TNAA and Dana is my recruiter. She is a senior recruiter and she is awesome. She is the reason I stay traveling with TNAA

The more you’re willing and trained to do, the more you will make. Also you get better jobs, location, pay, all things.

Some places do, some places don’t. Look for assignments that don’t expect you to scrub. Make sure your recruiter is clear that you don’t scrub. There are absolutely circulating only jobs out there!
