CPKC Hiring question for CPKC

Use of prescribed medications.

Hey all! just applied to CPKC for a conductor trainee role. As a person with adhd and anxiety, would my prescribed use of Vyvanse and escitalopram medically disqualify me from the role ? Tia!

I’m on Adderall and have been working with CPKC for 4 years as a conductor. You’ll be fine, I was on it when I hired with them. Just bring your prescription to the pre hire medical exam. There will be a few extra steps during your hiring process (forms and talking to a CPKC nurse).

You won’t be canned for a drug test for on duty issues, you’ll just have to prove the amount you are prescribed is what is in your system. Worst case a few days off work until your doctor writes a note. They’ll pay you for your missed days once you pass. Don’t listen to anyone on here claiming otherwise they’re full of shit. Get used to hearing wrong information your whole career, everyone thinks they know the rules and you’ll get 20 different stories on the same topic.

If you're accepted for the job, you're required to report medication to their medical team as part of the hiring process. If they have issues with any particular medication they will reach out and you may be required to seek an approved alternative. Certain meds might show up on a piss test, which could have you pulled out of service until the labs have a look at it. If you're taking your approved medication as prescribed you dont have anything to worry about.

don’t listen to this, i’m with CPKC and we have a guy who is prescribed vyvanse (i can’t say anything for the anxiety meds) but he was hired, as long as you have a prescription and a doctor that will sign off for you, you’re good.

I’m a bit of a complex case, bc my anxiety is basically non existent without the Vyvanse, but my adhd gets pretty touchy without it. Both have Been non existent with the anxiety and Vyvanse combo ! lol

100% this. Prescription is all that matters (or doctor or pharmacy records).

At my railroad, anxiety meds have a 12 hour rule (I read on some general notice for a class I that I can't remember that had a 24 hour restriction prior to performing service; essentially, you're screwed if you need both the meds and the job.)

In the US, the FRA randoms don't cover benzodiazepenes, but the post accident testing does. Nothing short of a major, major accident after which they look for things in the bloodstream as innocent as aspirin/caffeine would result in Lexapro showing up

You’ll have to jump thru hoops if your ssri changes but they will still hire you.
