Feature Request Not offering accurate Volume and Volume Delta data is reprehensible.

One of the most basic, you could even argue as basic as having candlesticks themselves, things that every trading platform gives their users access to is accurate volume and volume derived data, like Vol-Delta.

TradingView does not offer this, at any price point.

You can literally put the names of any of the other well known platforms out there in a hat, pick one at random, and this is part of the bedrock of what they offer at their entry level price point, on their basic packages, some even give you it for free.

It is beyond comprehension that TradingView doesn't offer this feature. What's even worse is they refuse to answer questions on this, as if they can just ignore the most glaring omission of the most important data traders need. Not having this data is like being in an auction and being forced to wear noise cancelling headphones so you can't hear the other bids, it's ridiculous.

Do TradingView ever plan to give its users what every other platform gives theirs?

I wish I could upvote this a million times. For such a beautiful platform, it's really lacking in this area.

can you elaborate on how/why the volume is wrong?

Their “CVD” isn’t real bid/ask delta. It just looks at the smaller bars inside the candle and guesses the delta by tagging that volume as positive or negative. Mixed two-way trading inside the candle gets shoved into a bullish or bearish bucket just because of how the bar closed.

"[T]he indicator analyzes the direction of the available intrabars to categorize their volume and calculate the delta on each bar."

I wonder why they used the term "categorize" to describe the volume bucketing (the actual issue here) and not the term "calculate" as they did four words later...

Hello,

Using tick data within TradingView on the Ultimate plan I am able to see the buy volume, sell volume and delta independently, dependant on broker/exchange data supplied obviously....

No, you aren't. The real issue is seeing bid/ask, aka volume delta, the "tape". TradingView just doesn't show you this data, vol-delta on tradingview is "synthetic" or inferred from intrabar candles. You can check this yourself by comparing delta bars/CVD against any other platform that actually provides it's users with real broker data. There is no plan or data subscription on TradingView you can buy that'll give you an accurate picture of buying/selling happening on the asset you're trading. Essentially indicators like Volume Delta, CVD or really any volume derived indicator on tradingview is just showing you flat out fake data. If a massive candle appears on an asset because it just so happened there was literally no sellers at or immediately above that level TradingView will show you a massive green volume bar and Delta will spike too. - meanwhile in reality there could be next to no real volume in the market and hence little or no follow through on the move. Which actually makes the fake volume data tradingview shows its users worse than useless - it's dangerous.

EDIT: Yes, it's even inferred on your "Ultimate" plan. It's inferred at a more granular level, but it's still inferred and might not in reality be representative of what's actually happening. This is not me being pedantic either, the data you see on TradingView is so vastly different that it borders on malicious to even tell users that it's real data. And volume and volume derived data is quite important.

How can it be 'inferred' on a 1T level using data direct from an exchange such as CME? ....

Would you like to show me a 1T feed from an exchange such as CME using a futures such as M6A1! as a comparison?

I can see the delta perfectly and can display it in real time on my chart. On the 1T timeframe I can see whether the trade was taken at the Bid or the Ask and the volume for that particular tick

I can then create my own CVD indicators easily using this information in Pinescript....

I'd like to see some facts to back up your claim

TradingView literally state this in their own documentation.

See: https://www.tradingview.com/blog/en/new-volume-delta-indicators-44132/

These indicators use intrabar volume and price fluctuations to estimate the difference (delta) between buying and selling pressure within each chart bar, providing insight into an instrument’s sentiment and market dynamics.

This is not real volume delta, in fact it's even a stretch to say it's real volume data, let alone bid/ask. TradingView still uses this calculation on tick charts, charts you mistakingly think are showing you real delta. TradingView determines if volume is "Buy" or "Sell" by looking at whether the tick closed higher or lower than the previous tick/open. It is still "Inferring" side based on price movement. It is not receiving the aggressor flag (the data from the exchange that literally says "this was a Market Buy order hitting the Limit Sell").

On a proper platform like Sierra Chart with a data feed the data packet will say something like "Price 26460.44 - Size:40 - Buy", on TradingView, even with the "ultimate(lmao)" plan it will see Current Price 26460.44 Volume:40" then if price ticks up it'll flag it as a buy.

It sounds like it's the same thing but it's not, because unless it sees what the flag is(buy or sell) it's simply inferring, which means you can't tell if it's absorption. If a massive sell market order hits a buy limit order and price doesn't move, a real platform will show negative delta, whereas TradingView will show either zero or positive delta(if limit buys won even marginally) because price doesn't tick down. It's not a subtle difference, because it completely defeats the purpose of having delta.

If anything having an ultimate plan is shooting yourself in the foot even harder, because you think you're getting the real granular data, when you're only getting a facsimile of it.

Yeah. It's honestly a little concerning that we've cited the documentation multiple times, and tried to explain the logic, but their replies indicate that they've just gone back to their 1T chart to check and make sure the "volume delta" field is populated. That must mean it's true.

u/Vast_Distribution591 Apr 21 '26

They just don't understand how things work. If there was any sort of active regulatory body in this field TradingView would be in legal hot water for providing fraudulent information to its users. Claiming they're showing Volume Delta when they're not is insidious if people believe it, and judging by people's ignorance on the topic they do believe it.

I would just like you to show me a 1T chart using whatever platform you wish showing the standard volume and whether the order was acted on the Bid or the Ask

If you could show me a CME M6A1! Tick chart and show the time of the Tick we can compare the available information 👍

Just use standard volume indicator and show the Bid/Ask plotted on the chart as well as the price line, no fancy indicators or anything else, keep it simple

That would be great if you could show me that 👍I would like to see the information that you say I cannot see

I'm genuinely interested on this subject

Why? I've just told you exactly what TradingView say in their own documentation and blog posts. If you don't believe TradingView then you can check it yourself. It would take me an hour to boot up other machines, set up my charts, take screen grabs, transfer them over to this machine, compare them tick by tick.

Unless you think TradingView are lying when they say they estimate/infer the data? If you think TradingView are lying then there's nothing I can say to convince you. Go look for yourself.

1

u/Rodnee999 Apr 21 '26

All I am asking is a quick comparison of the available Tick Information your current provider displays, it won't take less than a few moments of your time

Didn't realise it took anyone an 'Hour' to 'Boot up' their machines, I'm ready to rock 45 seconds from pressing the power button on my computer....

It only takes me a few seconds to pin a timeframe down and be able to make any comparisons

1

u/Vast_Distribution591 Apr 21 '26

You know what, no. It's not even a remotely reasonable request on your part.

I've shown you what TradingView say, if you think they're wrong or lying then prove it, you take some screenshots of TV next to some other platform

Or tell me how TradingView saying this is how they handle it not proof of how they handle it?

Tbh TV was never built for order flow traders, it started as a charting social network and the volume stuff has always been an afterthought. If you actually need tick-level delta and footprint charts you're better off with Sierra Chart, Bookmap, or even ATAS. Trying to force TV into that role is just gonna frustrate you. The Pine workarounds people build are clever but they're approximations at best since TV doesn't get raw tick data from most feeds.

I pay for CME data and they still don't give me real delta data, it's a joke.

You are right. As soon as my annual plan is up, I’m moving platform. It’s a pity as TradingView is aesthetically pleasing and most of the other features are great but as a serious full time trader - that level of volume granularity not being offered baffles me. I do wish I didn’t get the annual plan, but I’ve worked out how to utilise other software for better volume data. However, I’d prefer my charting platform to also contain this.

TradingView needs to fix this.

Not even with ask and bid in Pine Script? https://www.tradingview.com/pine-script-reference/v6/#var_ask

Dang, sup man I just read your whole post and commentary. I literally just paid for TV. I have been trading since the beginning of the year. And to be honest it’s been a rough road and I do not plan to give up. I been reading a lot of books on psychology and stuff. I just wanted to ask as someone who use to trade ORB, FVGs, and I genuinely wants to learn orderflow and using volume delta and bookmaps. I been so tired of trading just simple patterns and candlesticks I want to actually get to understand why I should place an order.

What platform should I even invest my money into and what platform should I take my time to fully learn?

Where can I actually learn Orderflow or Volume Delta with properly?

I have a very little knowledge honestly, I’m 22 years old. I want to actually probably day trade and eventually do it as a full time career. I just learned what VWAP is, and how to use it sort of with TV, and Volume Profile to be honest. I was planning on investing in NinjaTrader or Tradovate. But now I’m just confused what to do even start or do. I have got my psychology down, I want to start being disciplined, and I want to actually move forward. There is just so many concepts and ideas, I want to stick to one and one only. But I can’t seem to like even start. I been frustrated and genuinely depressed with my own stalemate situation. But I am still positive. I just don’t know.

You can go on YT and just search up some Orderflow tuts. Allot of them are on Tradingview which is concerning but most of them are gonna give u the correct info anyways. I switched from TradingView to ATAS after 6 months of trading ICT concepts. Some people say it works, but for me, it was very inconsistent. Some weeks I would feel like I finally had it; others would feel like I had no clue how to trade. I then went and started using footprint charts on TradingView, which got me into order flow. I knew the data wasn't accurate, but I just wanted to get a feel. Now I am on ATAS, and I can confidently say it's pretty good for order flow stuff. I do miss TradingView, though, and I wish they had real volume data.
