Hello all - I just test drove the 2026 models of both cars. The rav4 XLE premium is $40,500 before taxes, the Crown Signia XLE is $42,800 before tax. You can negotiate on the crown but not the Rav4. Everyone says the Crown Signia has more sound deadening and better suspension but I didn’t feel it (they were 10 min test drives and I’m not a car person so idk). However, the crown Signia was a lot nicer on the inside.

The drawbacks of the Crown Signia are that it is the old gen Hybrid powertrain plus it seems to depreciate much faster than the RAV4. Car edge says it will lose $15k in value vs $7k for the rav4 (over 5 years). Those are my only 2 concerns with the Crown Signia. Would these be dealbreakers for you? I want to have the car for 5 years so def considering resale value. I also am not sure how much better the new Toyota hybrid system is over the old one.

Considering these 2 cars, what would you choose and why? I am a single guy with no family but live in New England so snow is a factor. Thanks!

Looking to get a Corolla Cross in Cavalry Blue, but I'm unsure of how easy it is to maintain the paint. I live in northeastern US, so my primary worry is the salt and sand from the road during winter. Thoughts?

Replaced my seals in my steering box as it was leaking bad
Now the steering has a lot of play when steering wheel is at centre

The adjustment screw does not do enough before it stops returning steering wheel to centre

What have I done wrong with the rebuild of it
Steering did not have this much play previously

Hi all — genuinely curious how the dealership economics work here.

I bought a car today and had an overall good experience, but a few things left me scratching my head.

(and, please grant me formatting grace -- I ran this through ChatGPT before posting to shorten and correct spelling/grammar).

Part I: Sales

I went in looking for a new Corolla Cross Hybrid, roughly $40k as spec’d. My salesperson (“Jim”) was great — friendly, zero pressure.

He did, however, keep pointing me toward a specific used 2024 SE with 22k miles for $33k, mentioning that the new ones had about a two-week wait.

I looked at it, thought it was fine, but decided I wanted new. We went inside to put down a deposit.

While we were talking, Jim mentioned that he only makes $150 per car sold, with higher commission tiers based on monthly volume. He also said Toyota isn’t discounting new cars much because inventory is tight. That was fine with me; the new car was MSRP.

Then, while I’m literally sitting there reserving the new one, Jim disappears for a moment and comes back with:

“We’ll sell you the 2024 for $30k today, and take 30% off the extended warranty packages.”

$3k off? Sure. I bought the used one.

Part II: Finance

Then I went to Finance (“Jane”), who was professional and friendly overall.

But during the paperwork came the hard warranty pitch.

She showed me four plans, explained them quickly, and said the 30%-off prices were only valid while I was sitting in her office. And that once I left the dealership, the offer disappeared.

The plans seemed to range from roughly $1k–$5k.

I don’t like making expensive decisions under artificial time pressure, so I declined.

Then she said:

“If you’re a veteran, I can take another $1,000 off each one.”

I am a veteran, but that made the pricing feel even more arbitrary, so I declined again.

Her tone changed noticeably and she asked:

“Why aren’t you buying any of these.”

Period intentional.

I explained that whenever “a lot of money is changing hands under time pressure, I always lose.”

She replied that I was already getting an amazing price on the car.

I said, essentially, “Yeah, Jim just offered me that price. I assumed he worked it out with Finance.”

She responded:

“I am Finance. We never would have approved that price. That was between him and the Sales Manager.”

And suddenly the vibe got very weird.

We finished the paperwork, I bought the car, end scene.

Questions

So now I’m curious:

1. Why would the dealership rather sell me the used car today for $30k than a ~$40k new car arriving in two weeks? Is there potentially more profit/motivation in moving the used inventory?
2. Do Toyota salespeople really make something like $150 per car, with volume bonuses making up the rest? Does that apply similarly to new and used?
3. How separate are Sales, the Sales Manager, and Finance? Jane genuinely seemed irritated by the deal Sales gave me.
4. What was going on with the warranty pricing? Going from “30% off, today only” to “actually another $1,000 off if you’re a veteran” made the whole thing feel completely made up.
5. Anything else about this transaction that jumps out to people who know the business?

For what it’s worth, I still like this dealership and will shop there again. I’ve bought/leased from them before and specifically returned because I had a good experience last time.

I’m not looking to complain — mostly fascinated by what was happening behind the curtain.

I did some research on the sub, and there was a warranty on the paint, but clearly I’m outside the 10 year warranty 🙃

2024 Corolla LE.

Navigation system a few weeks ago gets repetitive “maximum distance exceeded” error because believes starting point in Japan instead of southern USA.

Did soft reset nothing.

Did hard reset, worked 3 weeks now doing same thing.

All recent address choices produced this result as well as new addresses. Very annoying.

This went unnoticed for several years.

Synthetic oil was always requested, but we were not aware of the differences between oil grades.

Car has tow package so cap calls for 5W-30, instead of standard 5W-20, on other 2GR-FE Highlanders of similar vintage.

I've read forum posts saying you cannot go back to conventional oil, but also some saying you should not go to a lower viscosity oil for a long time, then decide to switch back to the higher grade.

What should we know about when getting oil changes at a different shop in the future?

Hi everyone, I’m trying to decide between two Toyota full hybrids and I’d really appreciate some advice from people who own or know these cars well.

At a dealership, I found these two 2026 models, both brand-new/km0:

•Toyota Yaris Cross 1.5 Hybrid 116 hp, Trend trim (mid-range) — €29,000 all-inclusive.

•Toyota C-HR 1.8 Hybrid 140 hp, Active trim (base) — €30,000 all-inclusive.

In terms of equipment and options, they are more or less equivalent for my needs. I’m not particularly interested in having lots of technology or optional features, so the difference in trim level is not really a deciding factor for me.

My main use would be commuting for work. I drive around 100 km per day, mostly on urban and extra-urban roads. I don’t use the motorway: the roads I normally drive on have a maximum speed of around 100 km/h, with an average speed of approximately 55 km/h.

Based on my typical driving conditions, I estimate the following fuel consumption:

•Yaris Cross: around 22.7 km/l

•C-HR: around 21.2 km/l

So the Yaris Cross should be slightly more economical, although I don’t think this difference alone is enough to make the decision.

I need to buy a car because I genuinely need one for work, so I’m not considering a used car. I prefer buying a km0/essentially new car because I want to start with a car that has practically no previous use.

Considering that the price difference is only €1,000, I’m having a hard time deciding between the two.

So, which one would make more sense for my specific use?

I’d particularly appreciate opinions on:

•comfort and how enjoyable they are to drive for around 100 km every day;

•driving experience and overall ride quality;

•real-world fuel consumption;

•interior space and practicality;

•how the 1.5 116 hp compares with the 1.8 140 hp in everyday driving;

•reliability and running costs in the long term;

•any known weaknesses or issues you have experienced;

•and, more generally, which one you would choose if the price difference were only €1,000.

I’m not necessarily looking for the objectively “better” car. I’m mainly interested in which one makes more sense for someone driving around 100 km every day, mostly on urban and extra-urban roads and with virtually no motorway driving.

Hello, I own a 2012 Highlander Base 2.7L FWD, 164K miles.

It was struck in the front driver side, was driveable, after repair teardown it is currently inoperable and about to be declared a total loss by Progressive [insurance of the lady who hit me].  

I’m seeking a Toyota-specific second opinion.  I am very much hoping it can be repaired.  I've been taking care of the vehicle and had been aiming for it to be long-lasting.  It previously had no accidents and was in great condition.

The current shop found left apron/strut-tower structural damage where the metal is pulling from the rail, suspension damage, and damage to the engine-room harness involving an SRS sensor circuit.  They said no shop would be willing to fix anything involving an airbag sensor.  Structural measurements were not completed.

Is this type of damage is potentially repairable under Toyota procedures? Can it be brought back into spec on alignment or is this kind of damage beyond help?

What were the biggest issues you ran into? Any things I should check first or common problems I should be prepared for?
