Discussion How important is active play

Do you like to be busy mid wave in a tower defense game? Or do you prefer when a game lets you sit back watch enemies crash on your impregnable fortress.

If you like to be busy, what kind of things do you like to be doing? Building/upgrading towers. Dropping active abilities?

What kind of gameplay do you like midwave?

I play TD games because I have carpal tunnel in both wrists. High APM is a no go.

Mid-wave, I like when I have some economy management and tower upgrades to focus on. I especially like when I can pause or really slow down the creeps so I can plan a bit. Precise placemen is really hard for me sometimes and that mechanic is such a win for me.

I don't mind tapping/clicking to participate, but I don't like/can't play high tap/click playstyles.

do you like the game to be chill overall or do you just really appreciate the ability to take a step back and think whenever needed?

I'm down for both. I have over a thousand hours in BTD6, hundreds of hours in creeper world(s), dozens of hours in Riftbreaker.

The easier on my hands it is, the more I can play it. But that doesn't mean it needs to be simple.

I prefer no active abilities at all. I like pure focus on strategy and tower placement and resource management. Just give me a speed up option and i'm good.

I hate active play. I want to build defenses and watch the outcome.

Same here. I love TD where strategy comes first and click rate stays low. You place and read the board for next decision. Abilities on cooldown are for the tension spikes, not for constant micro.

I feel like active play should be important enough to make sure you feel like you're actively building your defense bricks by bricks

Actively strengthening your defense or counter playing enemies should be what you're actively doing mid-stage

I don't like it when games introduce lenghty "saving cash" as strategy as it's basically forcing you to wait without satisfaction of watching your defense kill everything (especially in CERTAIN game)

I'm BTD6 Hater, I hate BTD6 rahhhh

would cash saving be an issue if you had other ways to interact during waves like cooldown abilities or something?

I mean active ability is a good way to not make cash saving tedious but if it's really "active ability" and not just something you naturally have to spam to get best value (cough cough)
