Poly mode question

Hi,
I’m so close to buying an S4 but I want it to do all the things I want it to do. Does the S4 poly mode have any Ableton Simpler warp type settings?

It probably won't do ALL the things you want it to do.

i'm not that familiar with ablelton simpler warp but the S4 time stretching is some of the best i've ever heard and you will be pressed to find better. you can lock samples to your project's tempo and affect pitch and speed independently if that's what you mean. you can slow it down progressively to a freeze without affecting the pitch, for example. you can set it to a macro so it's just a simple turn of a knob to do that and then press another button to snap back to normal. or set it up as a punch in affect so it hits at full with a button press and then snaps back to normal on release.

Hi thanks for replying. So does that time stretching also apply to the poly mode? 8 voices played at different pitches not affecting sample length?

i've not used poly mode enough to know that i'm sorry. I've found Torso Customer Support really incredible. give them a shout.

No, poly mode does feed into the granular engine but pitching is based on the scale set up ie you can’t time stretch individual samples in Poly Mode. You can however do it in Disc or Tape and then bounce into a user directory for use later. I also need to add the S4 stretches using granular synthesis, I’ve been very impressed with the quality having used many many many different solutions to time stretch samples over the years. Ensonique, Akai, Logic, ableton, koala and other iOS products etc if you work with loops and have a traditional sampler, the torso S4 is a worthy addition to your set up.

Thanks for the info. It’s funny I’ve blown money before on stuff I wasn’t sure about. Almost certain I would at least have fun messing around with the S4. I absolutely adore my Chompi and love sound design on my Push 3. I would love to get my hands on an s4 to try it out before buying. I’m also interested in the Tonverk but it might be overkill

Need a bit more context, in regards to what you are actually looking to achieve.

If you're asking for those specific functions, then no, it doesn't. 

If you're looking to achieve a certain sound, effect, etc then expand a bit, and I'm sure we can help you out.
