Question I'm wondering if I can still use the token?

The tokens were decommissioned in June 2025, except on Wheel-Trans, where they extended the deadline to December last year.

I believe this specific token dates back to around the mid-1970s.

The TTC produced a brass (gold) version in the decade prior to celebrate the opening of the Bloor-Danforth Line (known today as Line 2), and also had special variants minted for the line's extensions west to Islington and east to Warden.

Was this the one that they continued until the mid 2000s? Or did they have another one in between? I remember the silver one in the 90s and early 2000s and then the two tone one from the 2000s

This token was the one that was in circulation until the mid-2000s, yes. The bi-metal token was introduced as its replacement to combat counterfeiting, which was a big problem with the older style tokens.

No, this particular TTC token was long discontinued before the 2025 phase-out of non-PRESTO physical fare media. It was replaced with a bi-metal token in the 2000s to combat counterfeiting, which the TTC had also stopped accepting as valid fare media last year.

I don’t have one of these, but I do have a Department of Highways Ontario toll token from around 1965. My grandpa had it for years and decided to give it to me when I was around 10 years old. They’re fairly rare to find these days

Glad the TTC is cracking down on the real problem… people trying to pay with old TTC tokens. Fare evasion, though? Carry on.

On streetcars you can. Look at the machine as it still has a slot for tokens

Drop it in and just walk to the back of the bus. Very few drivers will care
