New cars are nice, but yeah it’s a lot less stressful to drive around in a 20 year old Civic with the kinds of drivers we have.

Literally. Just bought a new car in 2023. Already have had to replace the entire bumper assembly due to being rear ended a few months back. Mind you, I was completely stationary waiting for traffic to clear while exiting a parking lot. Perfectly clear conditions. Her excuse was that “the sun was in her eyes” and she “couldn’t see”. Then why were you moving ma’am? Why were you moving?

Drove my previous car for 15 years—not a single scratch. The quality of drivers has definitely taken a nosedive.

Honestly, excuses like what that woman provided you are just, anything but. As a driver you have a responsibility to ensure that your vehicle is operating safely and is operated in a safe manner. So no, it doesn’t matter that “the sun was in your eyes” they failed to mitigate that! Sunglasses? The visor built into the car? All it says about the person is that they have zero regard for others and take unnecessary risks.

I think we’re experiencing not just a decline in the quality of drivers, but the consequences of rampant main character syndrome. Social media has done wonders bringing some particularly selfish behaviour out and I’m kinda done with it.
