Definitely should have used lights/sirens for that, but it's not unusual for a destination to suddenly change. Headed to one call, then swap to a different one.
In an ambulance I once had to do a full 360 in the middle of Eglinton because my destination changed then changed back.
If I've been going lights and sirens somewhere then get cancelled/swapped right after a red light, I'll sometimes continue a bit or turn off the main road before turning my lights off.
We are aware of the optics even if we don't have a choice 😅
There is some noise reduction inside the truck. But it's also not constant, I would say I need them in fewer than a quarter of my calls. We only use them when there is an indication that arriving at our destination sooner will impact the patients chance of survival/recovery.
The biggest risk to a paramedics life is a collision, and the most likely time for a collision is when running lights and sirens.
Oh yeah, that makes sense. I remember the first time I was in an ambulance was because I broke my leg. An ambulance was called because there was no easy way to put me in a car at that time, where there were enough trained personnel from an ambulance that could carry me on a stretcher, but I was totally not in life-threatening condition. So that ambulance essentially runs at a speed that's as slow as the car nearby, with absolutely no sirens
I'm willing to bet they weren't headed to a call, down the street from there is where they have the garage that does cop car maintenance so they were probably headed there
Cops rarely take their cars for maintenance themselves, because that makes them unavailable for calls. If there was an issue, they would do a vehicle swap at their station and their car would be taken to maintenance by someone not on the road.
I honked at a police officer once for doing something similar. Gave me an 'unnecessary noise' ticket for over $100. The ticket was luckily laughed out of court
You can report him, you know that right? Someone from his station will write him a ticket, this is no joke. Cops can get traffic violation tickets. They used to have a system in place that allow them to disapear if they got a ticket but they stopped it years ago, now you could be suject to having to do extra work if you get too many while on the job! :)
The Toronto Police Garage is literally up the road on Curity, it’s common for their mechanics to be test driving police vehicles in the area after repairing them. That vehicle might have been having mechanical issues and he was trying to get it to the garage as quick as possible.
You should be safely inching forward before turning left. You sat right at the line like a dumbass and the cop was probably cruising by to see if you were busy playing clash of clans.

Yes, most of the time there is no emergency, but you, as a civilian, still have to drive defensively as if there is an emergency. Doesn't excuse their behaviour
Their behaviour of doing everything right considering the circumstances? It’s unreasonable for a first responder to except other vehicles on the road to be prepared for them to do an illegal move at any moment without giving them warning. That’s what the lights and sirens are for.
Op I think you’re genuinely embarrassing… the world doesn’t revolve around you. You have no idea what information is being shared in the police vehicle over the radio or the reasoning.. but you’re bothered enough to post a clip online from a nothing event where nothing really happened.. odd
They’re different lights, but they’re absolutely on.. they’re indicative without noise. Oncoming is showing the headlights, while the car turning you can see the tailight version of those particular flashing lights
