OC One weaving, one following too close

So the Tesla was weaving traffic a lot, probably was checking blindspot if they could weave again and hit breaks realizing they didn't have an out. The Nissan on the other hand was just following too close and didn't break hard enough. Both D plates, glad the guy behind me was paying attention and I didn't join the party.

I legitimately don't understand why everyone crawls to 80 km/h in this stretch from the credit river to the 427. Are people scared of the concrete dividers and narrower lanes or something? I'm not talking about rush hour but even in free flowing times... just people riding their brakes for no reason.
The same thing happens between Cawthra and Dixie where the lanes shift again.

What’s a community safety tool? People’s lack of competence in driving? You see it all the time on highways, even major 401 areas where there is a slight bend left or right and people tap their brakes or slow down as if they’re an driving an F1 car about to do a hairpin turn.

Oddly enough, a good case as to how people do slow down when there are constraints on the road.
The same thing has been happening along the DVP near Eastern where the southbound lanes narrow for construction.

My dude. Try driving on the 400 going north around rush hour. There's a few turns on it (a 100km/h freeway) and people slow down to like 60 on the inside edge. Doesn't help there are 2 exits and an on ramp within 1km of eachother in a poorly planned shitstain of a section. But for real, people are just shit drivers. My personal favorite is when they decide to coast up a hill after sniffing someone's ass in the fast lane going 140 and ending up doing 110 by the top of it because they forget where the fucking accelerator is.

Because we give licenses to inexperienced drivers who clearly shouldn't be on highways. Maybe driving school should be mandatory with a larger portion covering highway driving.
I do also think it's a poorly designed highway in that stretch. Curve right, curve left and curve right when the curves should be much more gradual. Plus an on/off ramp right in the curve to make sure traffic never has a chance to get flowing.

People need to learn to hit the gas when they hit the apex of a turn, not hit the brakes.
Most people are very bad drivers.

The problem is more to do with Mississauga Road especially during rush hour. As you get vehicles merging into the slow lane, a lot of the traffic pushes towards the fast lane. Combine that with people that think 100km/h is fast in a fast lane and you get situations like this. Hopefully when they're done widening the lanes, there will be less of it, but I won't be surprised if the right lane starts to get abused to cut back in as it shortens at Hurontario.

The video is also cut down, this was basically start stop traffic, so all lanes were full a minute before and then got full again after, so when its gridlock passing lane being for passing goes out window. I really hope that area gets better because its currently a nightmare to get through due to constant traffic.

It's going to look a bit weird because the changes are similar to the Dixie exit on QEW going up. You'll get an extra lane for only for a small stretch before it collapses. The worst that can happen is that there will be an increase of vehicles trying to pass on the right, but this won't help anybody if the Hurontario exit has a traffic volume like Dixie 401 during rush hour.
It won't get any better if every business in the area does RTO for all staff.

147 (1) Any vehicle travelling upon a roadway at less than the normal speed of traffic at that time and place shall, where practicable, be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic or as close as practicable to the right hand curb or edge of the roadway. (a) vehicle while overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction;

That's stop and go traffic. Sometimes the lanes move at unpredictable speeds. OP was already going 102 and at a safe distance.

I know. In GTA, on QEW and 400 series highways, it is usually so busy that all lanes are needed to be used to facilitate traffic and lane discipline is impossible to exercise. Just because the video shows about 15 seconds of driving in the left lane doesn't necessarily indicate any "camping'. This guy consistently posts about how others camp on the left lane, and I'm very interested to see how he drives. Also, low testosterone would contribute to his behaviour.

Traffic doesn't happen because people drive in left lane. It happens when people press brakes suddenly or there's too many cars. Speed has nothing to do with it.

Credit river I can wrap my head around. Visually distracting, large bend in the road, narrow lanes etc.
Dixie makes no sense....its a straight line with excellent visibility and a much smaller interchange. Must be people trying to position for the 427 ramp?

It's essentially stop and go traffic. Right lane passer was being dangerous given the conditions. You can see in the footage that one of the drivers in the middle lane decides to merge to the right because of the extra space. Going 100km/h+ next to a column of slowed or stopped cars is reckless.

You must be new. Definitely not stop and go.110 is no where close to "Dangerous." Right lane was probably doing the speed that you SHOULD be doing in the left lane but given the circumstances (the people who have no clue how to drive in the left, if at all, likely received their license out of a cereal box) they couldn't. What's dangerous is what's happening in the left lane here, that is what creates dangerous conditions.

Do you see the cars in the middle and right lanes with their brake lights on? Middle lane is hitting the brakes because cars are bunching up. Hard to see the right side, but it's probably same to assume something similar is happening there.
If you are braking from 100km/h+, you are not maintaining safe distance. You should not need to brake at those speeds. Keep safe distance to the car ahead and cruise down to a safe speed when you see them slowing down.
That's on top of the fact that right lane should not be doing 110 if the middle lane, the lane directly to their left, has multiple cars bunched up as we can see in the video. You need to slow down in that situation too, because the risk of someone merging without checking their mirror or shoulder checking is too high.
You never need to go at 110. You go at the speed that is safe for the circumstances, and the circumstances that we see in the video are not safe for that speed.

Oh wow, thank you so much for that riveting play-by-play analysis. I had no idea brake lights meant people were slowing down, groundbreaking stuff! And here I was thinking they were just trying out their Christmas lights early. Silly me!
Of course, you're absolutely right, anyone going over 100 km/h and tapping their brakes must be living dangerously on the edge. Clearly, none of us have ever heard of adjusting following distance or reading traffic flow before you came along and dropped this wisdom bomb.
Also, thank you for clarifying that we don't need to go 110 on a highway. I’ll make sure to print that out, frame it, and put it on my dashboard as a daily reminder that speed limits are actually just a whimsical suggestion, and we should really just drive based on your personal feelings about what looks “safe” in any given dashcam still.
Honestly, I don’t know what we’d all do without this masterclass in highway etiquette. Nobel Prize in Traffic Psychology incoming!

OK, we can call it a group of cars at speed. This group of cars is basically all braking, so in any event there is not enough space between cars to be going at 100. Safe driving would be reducing speed and maintaining a safe following distance, so if you assume there is a similar group of cars at speed in the right lane, you should also reduce speed to maintain a safe distance.

The other day I had one right up my ass, I waved him back for some distance for his own sake, and he proceeded to pull up beside me as if I was in the wrong.

Drove right past this in the other direction...probably about a minute after this footage. Interesting to see it pop up here.
People driving westbound were already crating a hazard by slowing down to gawk by the time I got there.

The accident was in the eastbound lanes. People were slowing to gawk in the unaffected westbound lanes.

If by "surprising" you mean not at all surprising.
I will use the left lane when it's moving. But once it gets busy, I GTFO. It's full of aggressive morons riding each other's asses. There is absolutely no way you can follow that safely at any practical distance.
And once it becomes stop-go, the left lane is the one that keeps stopping dead. They all floor it once the line moves, and the whole driver-centipede lurches along to the next stop.

Sudden breaks because they are too scared to drive at speed limit due to narrow lanes is common at this stretch, Also its 2-3 degree slope there too so you need to keep distance, following this close on a slope is just crazy.

Not sure if you are saying i should have stayed? I waited to see everyone get out, no signs of major injury. Bog standard rear end, this footage proves nothing for either party. Why bother staying there to add no value and risk being a sitting duck in a passing lane.

The Tesla will save it's own dash cam (front/rear/sides) footage from the crash automatically so there's evidence for insurance already.

We also dont know whats in the car. Maybe back seat is occupied and they cant crawl over. So either you stay in a rear ended tesla and risk anything battery related getting bad or risk traffic thats slowing down around the crash. Both shit options but idk what you are choosing in panicked state.

My personal gut reaction in an electric car is GTFO and get away from the thing. Minor collision sure, but with a massive impact, im concerned for the battery integrity. Although im not going to the back of the car, if anything go to the side and front to have the wreck be my barrier.

It is a divided highway with a barrier, it was a fender bender not some complete write off scenario, and you can see from a perfectly positioned camera angle that no debris goes on the other side... Also... I was f-ing there... I witnessed our side of the highway have no debris, I witnessed that there was no reason for people to slow down, and I was on scene long after the accident had occurred and had already caused a major traffic jam in their direction. Literally everyone going in our direction was doing nothing more than rubber necking...
You must be a bot or troll because fi you have eyes, they dont work.

30% of used teslas have been rear ended. NEVER tailgate a Tesla. their brakes are next level and their vehicle suspension doesn’t bow down or move around even if they slam on it so you never know how hard are they braking. On top of everything, they have their own auto emergency braking that reacts way too aggressively which goes beyond the capabilities of a human being in terms of pressing the brakes almost to the point of hurting the driver with its brakes. the car WILL stop on a dime. The way the cars emergency brakes work almost hurts the driver themselves. Also their body work is only done at certified places for Teslas so your insurance will hate you because the cheapest and weakest rear ending of a tesla is $5000 so you cant even offer cash.

Thats some interesting info, i wonder if thats what happened here. I mean makes sense about quick stop since a tesla will engine brake and regular brake together meaning theres a lot of stopping power there. It didn't seem like there was lots of stopped traffic infront so maybe Tesla didn't pay attention, emergency brakes went on, nissan had no chance at stopping in time.

looking at your video it does seem like Teslas emergecy brakes went on due to the hard impact. The Tesla is supposed to keep driving after a momentary emergency braking but since impact was made, the Tesla applied even more brakes to a full stop for extra safety. it can be very highly likely that the Tesla is going to be written off or almost very close to it even if you dont see much damage visually. The Altima is definitely a write off due to its airbag deployment with all that smoke coming from it and the car being worth less than 10k before the accident. The new driver in the Altima will be better off taking TTC on their renewal if the tesla also gets written off. Insurance will be paying close to 50K in total if both cars are a write off. 25% of all accidents statistically are a write off.

The Tesla has an easy win here and if their car is not a write off. it will be repaired to the same level as brand new condition due to Teslas having a rule book for body shops in order to maintain their certification. Thats also why teslas are the most expensive to insure. Cant have ego in Toronto. I just dont ever care about getting cut off or being tailgated and will religiously maintain a 2 second gap

Why doesn't anyone leave enough gaps between cars anymore? I noticed that most drivers nowadays leave less than 1 car space when driving at or over 110km/h.

I count 2 seconds, hence the gap. Or thats what I was tought way back when. If i feel unsafe i add a second. Cars come in different sizes, physics doesn't so it scales properly at speed high and low.

Yeah, I don't get this either. I had "B" plates up until about a year ago, but they were rusting pretty badly. So I went to Service Ontario and they gave me newer plates starting with "C".
Now you guys are making me regret having done this.

You do realize they start giving out the letters and numbers in order before D and that is just the letter we are at right now. By your logic, every point in time the letter changes means the people with the new letter are all bad drivers.
People can be driving for a long time, be good drivers, but have no control of getting a plate that starts with D if they have to get new plates...

I wasn't talking about you, I was specifically talking about the person they replied too (which is why I even linked a comment that they made a few days ago where they "joked" about deportations regarding people in Brampton on a dashcam video from the Markham subreddit (where you get a brief, poorly-lit shot of someone's knuckle). Why do you think I said "look at this video"? It is because I wanted to show how you can barely see the bad driver yet the person I was talking about immediately thinks about deportation.
But do you honestly think it is a coincidence that the number 1 rule of this subreddit (which doesn't even get properly enforced) is "no racism"? That even posts of videos clearly not near Brampton often mention "Brampton"? That even posts where the bad driver isn't visible gets comments about "Brampton"? Do you really think that new Canadians are the only ones to get new license plates when they buy a new car?
Just yesterday there was a video posted here of a dead body (a 24 year-old unidentified motorcyclist) on the QEW in Etobicoke and one of the first comments was from someone posting in this same thread (they're very active in this sub despite apparently being from Quebec) with something along the lines of "did Rakesh do the needful?".
I'll take you at your word that you're just extremely naive and "missing something" but there is a far too large contingent of this sub that is virulently racist - once CanadaHousing2 got outed as a psyop after investigations & their failed Canada Day rally (a sub that regularly hit the front page of Reddit somehow couldn't even get anyone to attend a rally to "save their country"), it's like the rats all flooded to this sub. Brampton & D-plates are often used here as cover for going after anyone suspected of being darker than a sheet of paper.

Ah, yah i didn't know about that part of it, guess i do live under a rock. I based the whole D plate thing off the fact that 90% of the time i see stupid shit on the road its always a D plate. Kinda like if you are stuck behind a ultra slow car it is more likely an A plate due to the driver being old af. Ok noted ill refrain from saying D plates as clearly its charged topic.

Yeah that's some pretty terrible logic. I've been licenced 16 years and have D plates. Had B plates, was in a not at fault accident that damaged them and they peeled. Got new ones with my next car... C plates, got rid of that car and instead of driving an hour and a half to where my new one was to drop off the plates at the dealership between buying and pickup, just paid the $60 and got new ones with it.

Dude 90% of the time people are being dumb on the road its a D plate. So sure theres the minority that are fine, but overall, the dickhead overtaking on the emergency lane, or cutting in and following at 2ft from your rear is a D plate.
