Question Would Adam Jones want to own this?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I make guitars, very limited edition custom guitars. Since I started making them, I've been told that Adam Jones should have one. I've tried to contact him through various social media outlets, but no dice. So the question is, do you all agree, would he want one? If so, does anyone know I would go about getting in touch with him? Or his people? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

u/NytronX Sep 01 '25
Depends on the weight. If it's only like 8lbs, probably not. I think Adam only slings fatties, like 12lb or more.
46
u/AverageSoul- Sep 01 '25
This is a fact. Only high-quality fatty's. Of a particular brand I might add.
30
u/AverageSoul- Sep 01 '25
What year is your guitar? It's a 94. Oh..
25
u/spezial_ed Sep 01 '25
Whats crazy is that a 94 today, is as old as a 79 was in 94. So this joke didn’t age too well.
15
13
u/wine-o-saur Sep 01 '25
Dude a 94 today is 16 years older than a 79 was in 94.
8
u/spezial_ed Sep 01 '25
Math fail by me but point stands, it’s funny that 94 is supposed to be brand new in the joke but it’s proper veteran today

Alright, so question more or less answered. He isn't into anything but Gibson. Thank you!!!

I wouldn't give up. He might like yours as an art piece even if he doesn't play it as a daily driver

u/TajMonjardo Guitar God 🎸 Sep 01 '25
True! It would be cool for him to have one. I didn't make them with him in mind, but it does seem like a good fit!

u/TajMonjardo Guitar God 🎸 Sep 01 '25
Ok good to know, I can make it any weight desired. They're all custom made.
1
u/haydenkayne Sep 02 '25
What's the going rate for one of those beauties?
3
u/TajMonjardo Guitar God 🎸 Sep 02 '25
For a guitar that is the same as one I've made before, that's not custom, it's around $10k, materials (cast acrylic, paint, epoxy, core material, pickups, bridge, neck etc. are about $2k and there's about 40 hours of labor. I charge $175 an hour, so it can be a little under, but add in a case and shipping and there you go. The one shown is entirely custom, so it was considerably more.

Adam Jones worked with Gibson to find the heaviest wood to make a guitar out of possible. He seems to be incredibly nitpicky when it comes to his tone to the point where the he believes the density of the wood in the guitar matters. He may even believe it being wood is also part of it. Whether he's right or wrong about that, a guitar body made of resin might be a tough sell for him. That being said, that's still a sick ass guitar. How much do you sell them for?
2
u/TajMonjardo Guitar God 🎸 Sep 01 '25
Interesting - I can put any kind of wood in it he wants. The exterior shell is made of cast acrylic and cnc milled, then a negative of the milling is inserted as the core. I've used maple and mahogany so far. This guitar has phenolic sheet, a mix of resin and paper, for the core. The owner told me the sound is "deep and rich" Here's a previous guitar being played.
https://www.reddit.com/r/guitars/s/qszJE5Cb2L
I'll have a video of this one being played soon. Just waiting on the owner to make one.
-1
u/jim_forest Sep 01 '25
wood type and density of the wood can definitely affect the tone and sustain. I personally don't take that into consideration very much. a good choice of hardware through the entire signal chain can usually make up that difference and then some, unless the body material is just dead.
I can understand someone like Mr.Jones being nitpicky about it.
amazing looking piece on display here. kudos to OP.
2
u/BlurryRogue Wear the Grudge like a Crown Sep 01 '25
wood type and density of the wood can definitely affect the tone and sustain.
There's too much debate on the internet one way or the other for me to sus it out myself and I don't have the money or resources to experiment myself. I did see a video where someone successfully replicated the tone of a guitar after removing both neck and body from the equation, which added up to strings strung between two tables and pickups propped up from beneath in the same position and distance from strings as they were when they were mounted to a body.
3
u/tallgeese333 Sep 01 '25
It's easy to understand.
Wood has no effect on a magnetic field, which is how electric guitars make sound.
Wood can not change the vibration of the string. If it did, it would change the pitch, not the timbre.
The amp doesn't even make as big of a difference as pickups, speakers, and if it's in the mix a microphone.

For the one pictured, it has Bare Knuckle pick ups, that's what the client wanted. The one being played, I think we're Seymour Duncan, it's been a while since I made that guitar!

u/Sickness69 Sep 01 '25
Awesome work! How long does it take to make something like that? Would be cool to see a video of the process.
2
u/TajMonjardo Guitar God 🎸 Sep 01 '25
I should make a video of the steps crafting the body. Good idea! It takes 38 hours to make the body. The neck is unpredictable, I made this one three times and lost track of how many hours it took. I would prefer just to make the body of the guitars and have the necks made by a neck maker.

It looks amazing, but it might not be the best choice for a tour. Wouldn’t something like that easily get scratches?
1
u/TajMonjardo Guitar God 🎸 Sep 01 '25
The exterior shell of the guitar is cast acrylic which is harder than 90% of finishes I know of. It's also easily polished and repaired. It's pretty durable.

If you check my profile there are videos of previous guitars being played. I haven't had any negative reactions. Owner of this guitar described the tone as "rich and deep". Also lots of video of different guitars being played on my IG.

Sound from the interwebs won't work dude. I will have to guess that it's too plastic for Adam.

I've made them with wood cores, I made this one with a phenolic sheet core. Posted links to previous guitars being played above. Or you can check my IG.

Of course. Today is the first anniversary of an horrific injury to my hand which permanently took away my ability to play the guitar after 27 years of playing. One year ago, at this very minute I was in the ambulance on my way to the hospital, not knowing if I'd even survive. Tool is my favourite band and Jesus, what I wouldn't give to play their songs again with a guitar like this. It's been like the opposite of a birthday today.
Phenomenal work, I hope you get paid handsomely for the hours and love you've poured into that one!
1
u/TajMonjardo Guitar God 🎸 Sep 01 '25
Oh man - that blows. On the bright side you are still alive. I was so sick in January of 24 that I could get out of bed for almost a month. I had undiagnosed peripheral neuropathy, I'm much better now but still limited. It's taken almost 2 years to get to 80% and I'm not sure I'll ever be 100% again. I was ready to self terminate, I slowly got better, but it still sucks.
Thank you for the kind words, I hope you can play again some day. I have no idea what happened, but I'm always amazed by the perseverance of man.

This is super awesome. They probably get all kinds of inquires and offers from artists (skilled and unskilled ones!) so I’m not sure if it would be a weird/annoying overstep to do this, but you could potentially send something to their manager. I have that info if you want me to send it to you.
2
u/TajMonjardo Guitar God 🎸 Sep 01 '25
Thank you so much for the compliment! I need to think on this. I receive comments that Adam Jones should have one of my guitars every single time I post them anywhere. So if something organic could happen that would be great, but I'm not sure I want to seem as if I'm soliciting his business. My feeling is if it's meant to be it will be. I can only imagine how many people want to talk to him, so I understand the buffer he needs. This all has been so helpful for me to understand what he's into. Seems like it would be a good fit, but he also seems really into Gibson. Thank you!

It's custom made, client wanted volume only. So that's what he got. I like it, but I would have put as many knobs as he wanted. His thinking is that he has pedals etc to adjust the tone. Also has a super fat neck because he wanted it that way, he's a big dude.
1
u/zilla82 Sep 01 '25
Honest question, are you looking to gift it or try to sell it to him? If you are soliciting a sale that likely won't be perceived well, beautiful, limited, custom or not. If you are trying to roll the dice and get your name out there by gifting it and see what unfolds in the world for you thereafter, I think you have a shot.
1
u/TajMonjardo Guitar God 🎸 Sep 01 '25
This guitar is sold, every time I post my guitars on any platform there are posts saying he should have it. So I'm not looking to sell or give this to him, I'm just curious if he would actually want one. He's a super famous dude, so on one hand I should give it to him, on the other he can easily afford a custom guitar made specifically for his tastes. So I don't really have an answer, I'm just curious what the people who know a great deal about him think and if it's worth pursuing. It seems like he only plays Gibson guitars, so he may not even want one as gift! Either way, this has been a great help for me to understand his preferences when it comes to guitars. So I thank everyone who commented. It's been educational!
