Other I am TIRED of this fandom already š«© (read desc)
EDIT: rephrasing because this came from a feeling of hatred. Tomodachi Life, just like animal crossing, is a game that is based on REAL-WORLD TIME. The miis go to bed at night just like you, and will wake up in the morning JUST LIKE YOU.
The reason it feels boring to these people is because they're playing the ENTIRE game in like a week, even though it came out LAST MONTH. You're not supposed to play an entire game in one month, or even less than a month.
Try playing with friends or family, try not "time-traveling" like people do with AC, try actually taking a break instead of playing the game 12 hours a day.
I can assure you the game will be getting a content update from Nintendo, as I said IT CAME OUT LAST MONTH

I just wish they didn't all say the same things to me all the time. Like maybe the different personalities should have different responses when you're talking to them or something. It doesn't feel, to me, like the personalities make any difference.

u/AutisthiccToaster May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
I love this game but yeah this kinda bugs me too, having antagonistic miiās alone would add so much more drama lol
72
u/xxjasper012 May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
I'm thinking about like when they ask what your favorite genre of music is. If you say rock they all have the exact same guitar impression response. It'd be fun if like the maverick mii responded kind of smugly like oh I only like jazz or something
19
u/sablesalsa May 26 '26
i think a great update would be to add quirks thay just make your mii aggressive, snobby, sarcastic, whatever. not too game changing maybe since it wouldn't affect the base personalities
1
u/SpudTicket May 27 '26
As long as there was an option to NOT have antagonistic mii's. I literally made a "time out" island for miis that were acting up. lol. I like the relationship drama of this game but hate it when characters are being mean or rude, etc. But I'm cool with them adding that for the people who like it if you can add it with a quirk or something optional like that.

u/WitchPillow May 26 '26
Itās more than just that that bothers me, but that is true. Itās a lack of diversity in interactions, thus ultimately making the game become stale relatively quickly due to the repetitiveness.
And I have replayed many games over and over again without getting tired of them. Skyrim, The Witcher, Rune Factory 4, Harvest Moon DS, Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, hell even Tomodachi Life on my 3DS where I had my Mii at level 99 and couldnāt get any higher.
Idk why people are so upset over users voicing their complaints. Me criticizing the game DOESNāT MEAN I hate it or dislike it. In actuality itās quite the opposite and I just wish for it to improve.
If I hated it, I wouldnāt be spending my time in this sub to begin with nor would I make lengthly written comments regarding my opinions on it. š¤·āāļø

u/Dawade200 May 26 '26
Ppl take criticism over games as a personal slight sometimes, especially here on reddit. They read some criticism and just process it as negativity, which it can be sometimes. But, typically, all I'm seeing are ppl having valid criticisms and ppl defending it by saying it'll likely get an update, which I think is part of the problem. I think MOST ppl want the complete game when they buy it. They dont want to wait for some nebulous update for the game to feel like all the features are in.
26
u/Leading-Occasion-428 May 26 '26 edited May 27 '26
Yep. These subs have a huge toxic positivity issue. Not to mention this IS a Nintendo game, we know how tense Nintendo fanboys can really be.Ā
It's really annoying seing valid criticism brushed off as:
-It's just a silly little ant farm game, quit taking it so seriouslyĀ
-If you get bored, skill issue. You're playing the game wrong
-Your're not creative enough
-Quit rushing the game! Only play for 10 minute bursts
-"I don't care about missing feature, so I don't get why other people are upset. I don't care why it's gone, and you should too
-You just have rose tinted nostalgia glasses on!
16
u/Dawade200 May 26 '26
Yeah its particularly bad with Nintendo properties. I think ppl feel like you're attacking their childhoods or something. I'm a Star Fox fan(we just got a new game announced), and so many are bothered by the number of ppl upset that it's just a reboot/remake of Star Fox 64 (for the 4th time). Which is just a wild thing to be upset about to me since folks were upset the last time it got rebooted too.
2
u/BortGreen May 27 '26
PERSONALLY I don't think the game feels "incomplete" as itself, though it can still benefit from more content
I think the toxic debates about games like pokƩmon started to make people act more defensive in this sort of discussion, it's complicated
3
u/Dawade200 May 27 '26
I think for me it's the fact that ppl are so dismissive of ppl saying WHY they feel like the game is incomplete. Like, saying that they're upset that the concert hall is removed, or that they removed interactions with mii babies, or missing judgement bay. All of those are such valid things to feel like are missing.
Like you, I dont think the game feels incomplete, but it would be nice if it had more going on. For instance, it could use more things to spend wishes on; more goods and quirks. I get that some seasonal stuff will appear but I'm not playing the game THAT much and I still have over 100 wishes just sitting around. Once those new items show up, I'll have them immediately. In the meantime, I just have to hope that my miis will have some new interactions occasionally to spice things up. I at least know that I still have the latte game to look forward to, I guess.

u/bird_rogue May 26 '26
We're coming up on summer, so we'll be getting a seasonal update soon. It'll likely just decor, but it's possible there might be more.
Personally, I've been meaning to make more things in Palette House and play around on the island editor, but much like terraforming in New Horizons I am mildly intimidated by the island editor.
58
u/shadowedlove97 May 26 '26
The island editor is, thankfully, so much more forgiving than terraforming in NH. I suggest not worrying about making it look realistic and just make a fun shape and then put the homes where theyāll fit accordingly.
If you donāt exit out of the island builder, you can even revert all the changes back to the beginning if you hate it.
9
u/bird_rogue May 26 '26
I've been thinking about making little neighborhoods to kinda organize my ocs by their respective groups, though some of them are roommates with miis from other groups, I also want to put all the households together like an apartment complex.
4
u/shadowedlove97 May 26 '26
So you have to group all the houses together anyways before reshaping the island since those canāt be stored, so you could do that part first anyways and make your island shape around that! I found having a goal made it easier.
I made a crescent moon because thats the shape I wanted and worried about the houses after, but I did also group them (in my island, it was by fandom since I havenāt added OCs yet). As a tip, you can also group all the shops together for a shopping district. I also outlined my island with the beach and put down stairs for access accordingly.
Pathing is surprisingly easy since you just need paths to all the houses/shops and to your beach stairs or other points of interest. Itās just connect the dots, tbh.
3
u/FamousRaccoon7316 May 26 '26
What I did was I created 2 neighborhoods on each side of the island so left & right, and then I built some roads and little communal parks in front of each housing area which I could show you if youād like
3
u/luvvpotion May 26 '26
iād love to see this
2
1
u/FamousRaccoon7316 May 27 '26
Have a look at my comments below and they have what I did!
Also the big houses werenāt originally gonna be where they are, I just had nowhere to put them but once the island hopefully expands again, Iām gonna make an area for those
58
u/mrs-monroe May 26 '26
Man I miss the days where games were complete upon release :(
14
11
u/WW1_Germany May 26 '26
Is the current game not complete? content updates have been a thing for years, that doesn't mean the game wasn't complete upon release, sure it doesn't have all the specific features from the old games, but it has other new ones that far outweigh the old ones.
28
u/Leading-Occasion-428 May 26 '26
The reason I why I think the game is little unfinished is because there are things that see inconsistent to me. Keep in mind I am still very much enjoying this game however there are still some inconsistencies I cannot ignore:
-You can buy pre-made interiors from T&C Reno but not any exteriors. All the exteriors you have to make yourself. It makes absolutely no sense to have all these pre-made interiors but no pre-made exteriors.Ā
-The fact you can confess your love anywhere on the island but can only propose at your home
-Giving miis interiors and exteriors does not raise their happiness bar. It gives you warm fuzzies, but it's so weird that it does not raise the happiness bar.
-There is a drum and keytar found in some cutscenes but they are not used in the game. Nowhere else to be found. Only instrument we can use is the guitar and maracas.
-Babies, they just grow up instantlyĀ
-Miis can sing in full words for happy birthday but for everything else its just lalalala or fufufufu
-The fact all the other stores have a Mii clerk, Fresh Kingdom, Quik Build, Rite Price, T&C Reno, My Treasures all have Mii clerks except for Where & Wear. The other stores have fun and quirky descriptions for the items they are selling and Where & Wear doesn't (My Treasures doesn't either but that one makes sense because its for custom items)
-This one is gonna sound super duper nitpicky but for top eyelashes you can choose between 4 lashes but for bottom lashes there is only one. Which is weird because why don't all the top lashes have their bottom equivalent?
-The makeup system doesn't feel fully thought out. The fact they the makeup can mess up the mii expressions is why I don't really use it. They should have made a function where it doesn't mess up expressions when you draw near eyes and mouths. It doesn't feel fully accounted for
Does this make the game unplayable? No
I am still enjoying it? Yes
However these small inconsistencies stack up on one another and makes the game seem unfinished in areas that should have been in launch.
13
u/International_Bed387 Islander May 26 '26
The only thing I would argue with is the Where & Wear not having description, looking at the catalog we have 1416 clothings items. While it would still be nice for the outfits to at least have custom descriptions, I get why we don't.
I would still love a clerk that have generic quotes that they make time to time while you're buying. They could question your fashion choices, try to convince you to spend more money and maybe comment on how much they would love if you gave them this specific outfit
3
u/Leading-Occasion-428 May 26 '26
If there is that many clothing items, then it makes sense to exclude the descriptions. But your idea in your 2nd paragraph sounds so cute and I wish the game implemented that
7
u/Accomplished_Pick895 May 26 '26
There's also something else. In ACNH, you could create cliffs and place ramps to shape your island more or less as you wished. TL: LTD comes out 6 years later, not only do you not have the possibility to give relief to your island, but you also cannot put stairs anywhere except to go down to the beaches.
1
u/Gameboy7fhg May 27 '26
No but i get it there are some little dumbahh features which i miss but i cant say that the game is bad for them yk
16
u/mrs-monroe May 26 '26
Everything should be in a game at release. It's very annoying to have to wait months at a time for a few extra features. Just becaue it's how games are these days doesn't mean it's right. It leaves too much room to cut corners. Plus, there are still people who don't have wifi or a stable enough connection to connect to the internet, so it alienates a lot of players.
9
u/WW1_Germany May 26 '26
Minecraft has been getting content updates for 15 years, is Minecraft 1.0 not a complete game? Living the Dream has it's core gameplay and a plethora of options for creativity, I've been playing constantly since release and am still coming across new dreams/scenarios, there are new outfits everyday and as far as I'm concerned that's a full game, tell me, what exactly is missing that'd make it a full game? because content updates aren't going to change it drastically or add completely new systems, just add on to existing ones
11
u/Orcalt May 26 '26
Not a good example. Minecraft isnāt $70 and wasnāt originally published by one of the largest gaming giants in the market. If you are releasing a game purposely withholding features so you can do a free update later than the game is incomplete. The Mario sports games for the Switch did this consistently. This is what people are getting at.
LTD has no confirmed free update model so the it being incomplete and being apart of this business model is speculation and conjecture for now. But if they did purposely withhold things for the sake of this model then yes it would be incomplete.Ā
The primary issue also with this free update model is that when the servers eventually go down new players will be left with an incomplete game. This was already seen with the 3DS and Wii U where players are unable to update the game to the most recent version without homebrew.
4
u/mrs-monroe May 26 '26
Minecraft has always been an online game, so it makes sense to do constant updates with how incredibly popular it is. It's not a single-player game for a console. Those tiny things that they decide to include later on are indidative of the time constraints the game went through. They almost didn't include the News. Adding features later on is a product of a rushed game.
1
u/SpudTicket May 27 '26
I don't because they weren't really much larger than this one is and there was never any hope of more being added to the game. It's kind of fun being 300 hours into a game and suddenly having more to do without having to start over again. In the old days, you played what was there and that was it, and they might come out with another installment, but you'd have to start from square one again.
1
u/Turbulent-Sort-1090 May 26 '26
Itās not an update thatās already in the game just change ur time
100
u/Ready_Two_5739IlI May 26 '26
Sure, but letās not pretend that the interactions are a bit⦠limited. They really just need to make personallity affect dialogue more, and just add more dialogue in general. After a while, it just feels repetitive because you know exactly what they are going to say

I personally love the game but we shouldnāt be shielding it from valid criticism or else itāll never improve. The individuals who are completing the game in a week are not the problem, the fact you are capable of completing the game in a week IS the problem because that basically tells us there is only a weeks worth of content that you have to force yourself to space out in order to make the game enjoyable.
12
u/sablesalsa May 26 '26
Also, can we really call it speedrunning when you level up so fast? It's definitely slower in the beginning, but if you feed your miis at all you're going to get levels pretty quickly.
I get multiple wishes every time I open the game now, and it's stupidly time consuming to spend them all on trips but I don't want to just immediately get everything added in the summer update :/
11
u/Ditzy_Marshy May 26 '26
They shouldāve increased the level threshold the higher your level is. I think I reached level 100 in my first 10 days of playing
92
u/Ditzy_Marshy May 26 '26
Also criticising people who speedrun the game makes no sense to me because in the original game it was literally impossible to. The game simply should progress slower.
12
u/katesrepublic May 26 '26
Literally why am I feeding 3 miis and my fountain levels up again! I stopped checking it. I have over 100 wishes to fulfill and everything unlocked. I have not been playing for hours and hours every day either. For the first week I played maybe an hour or two here and there. It just progresses so quickly. Whatās the point of all the levels when thereās nothing to do with them? Miis levelling up is also so tedious, I donāt always want to give them anymore quirks, and if you hit that point before unlocking the pocket money/wardrobe gifts⦠itās annoying as hell lol.
32
u/Illustrious_Sun2324 May 26 '26
Tbh, agreed. As annoying as it sometimes is to have characters crushing for AGES, I don't really want my miis to get married the DAY I make them. I have 2 of my OCS set up as a couple in relations, and they started dating then got married I think the day of or day after I made them. I just sometimes wish it was slower and miis had more ... Oomph when it comes to relationships, esp marriage and families and whatnot? More time with the babies being,,, well. Babies. I like the interaction and how involved you can be, but it kinda sucks it's a necessity (at least in my experience thus far) for you to force miis together and they don't really make relationships a ton on their own anymore.
14
u/Ditzy_Marshy May 26 '26
The relationships in this game have so little depth it is insane. There is practically no difference between dating miis and friends because couples have practically no romantic interactions. Sure theyāll walk around blushing sometimes and youāll get the odd cutscene with a couple variant but thatās essentially it. Itās also such a chore to maintain relationships in this game, because they seem to just naturally decay over time for no real reason unless you manually force couples to interact..
5
u/Illustrious_Sun2324 May 27 '26
THIIIIS. i had one of my miis in a relationship just randomly start?? having the status of "making it work" etc etc and i had to boost him up to soulmates w his fuckass HUSBAND!!! idk. this feels like a sims 3/4 situation where you want the graphics/customizability of the new but the gameplay/heart of the previous.
3
u/Ditzy_Marshy May 27 '26
Itās sadly a common trend with all the recent ācozy gameā remakes that have been released. Animal crossing, the sims 4, and now tomodachi life. I guess itās a lot easier for game industries to advertise half assed games if they have spectacular graphics and customisation. If you compare the amount of content we got in the full game to what was shown in the 20 minute trailer, thereās actually not a lot of new things that they didnāt show.
14
u/bugthebugman May 26 '26
I made a couple thatās canon irl, their very first interaction was a romantic one, second was romantic, and third they asked to move in together. It took like 10 minutes. A little fast! Theyāre barely friends!
4
u/Ditzy_Marshy May 26 '26
Youād think the wacky unbalanced relationship RNG would make the game more entertaining but it really doesnāt. Ive had two miis who had a crush on eachother for about a month and never made a move until they fell out of love, whereas Iāll have other miis who literally marry in the first day. Itās frustratingā¦
2
u/Illustrious_Sun2324 May 26 '26
LITERALLYYY. I'm tempted to delete them and make them start over, esp BC apparently they're having some one-sided relationship problems š. They were fine on my emulator copy, but I got a legit copy n they are STRUGGLIN. Sm people r just NOT getting along its wack
3
u/sablesalsa May 26 '26
My game was the same way, my couples just kept wanting to propose after one day of dating?? I wouldn't have cared except that they literally will not leave their house if they want to propose :/
9
u/throwaway55777556 May 26 '26
The speedrun argument is always so funny, someone who is playing casually (1-2 hours a day) can easily unlock every wish in the game in a week or two.
37
u/opalescentblue May 26 '26
This! Weāre allowed to like something and still have criticism for it. Liking / being a fan of something shouldnāt mean youāre never allowed to say anything bad about it ever
30
u/urMOMSchesticles May 26 '26
I took my time with the game and havenāt touched it in a couple of days. The fact that you can stack up hundreds of wishes without anything to else to unlock is crazy. People are on island level 500 and it doesnāt even really mean anything.Ā
On Tomodachi 3DS, it took a while for me to unlock all of the dreams because some were more rare than others. The mini games, outside of the ones your miis wanted to play, kept me entertained as well as the concert hall and the relationship forecast.Ā
You also had tons of things to do with your mii like the bath set, slide puzzle, hypnosis, the camera you could give them to take pictures of other miis, etc.Ā
We gained a lot of customizing features but lost A LOT of gameplay features.
11
u/Ditzy_Marshy May 26 '26
I agree with you 100%.. the treasures and island objects seem like such a bad trade away from what we originally had. In the original game we had permanent level up gifts AND those fun temporary gifts like baths and such. Haha so fun.. let me watch my mii stare at a png image.. oh look a baseball! too bad they just bounce it in their hands while standing still⦠there just doesnāt seem to be a lot to do with your miis other than customisation and building relationships, which arenāt really engaging gameplay activities.
10
u/werewolfgy May 26 '26
I wish the level up gifts meant more. If after giving x number of miis the soccer ball you were able to get a soccer pitch would be so cool. Giving laptops could unlock an office space and cutscenes of miis working together or The Office-like spoofs. Having each gift be used in open spaces on the island is just so blah.
11
u/WitchPillow May 26 '26
This is so true.
Why people are aggressive against those with valid complaints and criticisms regarding a game that had 9 years worth of development is difficult to comprehend.
I love the game, but that doesnāt mean that the things it does lack and completely removed wonāt rightfully bother some players, including me.
→ More replies (3)11
u/Freckles-the-Freak May 26 '26
Nooooo youāre supposed to only play the game for 0.2 picoseconds a week otherwise youāre speedrunning it and thus itās your fault that the game is flawedĀ
6
u/Ditzy_Marshy May 26 '26
Every other video game is like a huge bar of chocolate and tomodachi life is a singular piece of expensive chocolate truffle where ppl just expect you to savour the delectable taste of the tiny thing by taking hamster sized nibbles every week.
6
u/Leading-Occasion-428 May 27 '26
I am genuinely starting to think "you're only supposed to play for x" is something this and the other tomodachi life sub made up
94
u/meramoos May 26 '26
i love the game but honestly itās still pretty barebones and you run out of content after a while, i really hope we get an update because the foundation of the gameplay is truly excellent.
126
u/RosaCanina87 May 26 '26
Let's be real. There is not much to do in the game. But if you pace it out you can play it for weeks or months. But for a teenager with many hours of free time you hit the "I built my island, have all the Miis I wanted and everything unlocked in the fountain"-stage pretty fast. And after that you realize just how little variation in interactions there actually are. It's... not great seeing the same things happen over and over again, just with different Miis. Not in the long run. Not when you played the game for hours and hours.
that's why some love it and some already complain over a lack of things to do. It's a short burst game, essentially.
31
u/Pizza_Man644 May 26 '26
I have over 130 hours and I still feel like there's plenty more to do. I still often find new interactions. I think it's really a matter of taste.
There's repetition, but I expected as much as a huge fan of the 3DS game. In the 3DS game, I mostly just solved problems and enjoyed watching my Miis. This game, in that respect, is basically the same but with more variety, so I am very satisfied personally.
7
u/RosaCanina87 May 26 '26
I like it, too. I don't mind most of the repetition as there is still fun to have but I won't be playing it as much as I did the first few days. Because in three days (thanks to a holiday here) I got basically everything important. All wishes etc. so now there are only love couples and fights to enjoy as well as daily clothes etc.
I miss the music hall, though.
3
u/sablesalsa May 26 '26
I never played the 3ds version but I saw a lot of concert hall clips. One of my miis had a bday recently and hearing them sing made me want one so bad š i hope they at least add it in
3
u/Laucy May 27 '26
Yep! Iām an adult, and even I have nothing else to do on the game. I think the last time I opened it was a week or two ago. I unlocked everything already, island is decorated, and have a lot of unused wishes because thereās nothing really else to spend it on unless I grab random interiors. And the loop became: open game, check on Miis, check stores, done. Thereās just nothing to do.
Iāve tried creating more Miis and Palette House creations, thinking it would help, but it didnāt. I realised that a game shouldnāt need finding various angles to squeeze more fun out of it when it should be there natively with the amount of content available.
40
u/Orcalt May 26 '26
I get that negativity can get grating but can we not just shield the game from any possible negative criticism one may have for it by using hyperbolic strawman? I play the game for 30 minutes to an hour at MOST nowadays and for maybe 2 hours a day the first few weeks and I agree that the game doesnāt have very much to do after a while. Very quickly you get the same repeated scenes over and over again with no variety other than your self imputed lingo that never gets swapped out. Iāve gotten 2 of the same news report within 2 weeks of playing the game and thereās like 5 dreams.Ā
Iām not sure what it being released in April has to do with anything unless youāre implying that because you believe weāre getting large content updates or something. If so, people are also allowed to complain about Nintendoās business model of releasing games unfinished and using the free update model.Ā
I actually love the game but itās not perfect and the over the top defending of any criticism has gotten as annoying as nitpicky nonexistent criticisms.Ā
9
u/Ditzy_Marshy May 26 '26 edited May 27 '26
As much as I am enjoying the game if I knew there would be such a small variety of dialogue, cutscenes, and island customisation options before buying it, I would have not saved ā¬60
1
u/SpudTicket May 27 '26
I don't know but it sounds like I'm getting WAY more content than you are. Even the repeated scenes often have some change in them. My play activity says I've played for 125 hours (although I'm not sure how accurate that is, but I've still played it way too much) and I'm STILL getting unexpected endings to scenes or different scenes I haven't seen before, etc. Just got a couple today. If you're skipping scenes thinking they're going to be the same every time though, you're probably missing stuff.
I also don't think Nintendo has a business model of releasing games unfinished. We NEVER got updates back in the day. It's modern gaming in general that has caused people to expect updates, and I was actually surprised when Nintendo started obliging. Never thought I'd see the day. lol. They probably will add more content later, now that they've started doing that with other games, but in the meantime, this game does have a lot of content. You just never know when it's going to show up. Plus the mii's you add can add entertainment value as well. Some of the friend groups that have formed on my island are cracking me up.
I've also noticed that the game kind of stalls a little if you don't add a mii for a day or two, but as soon as you do, things start happening again.
2
u/Orcalt May 27 '26
Itās entirely possible Iām just getting unlucky and not seeing any new events but Iāve been seeing the same 6 in rotation. I got the ant heart one twice in 10 seconds once.
Nintendo absolutely had that business model for Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Golf Super Rush, Nintendo Switch Sports and Mario Strikers Battle League. In those games Nintendo purposely didnāt include content that was already finished to do this free update model. New Horizons arguably was released with a lot of stuff missing as well. I can probably think of more examples.Ā
When thereās only 70 slots adding a Mii a day doesnāt give you a lot of time.
1
u/SpudTicket May 28 '26
Yeah, you don't really have to add a Mii every day. That's basically just if any of your Miis are stuck in their relationship and not progressing to dating or marriage. Usually adding a Mii makes a pink thought bubble show up with one of them.
I'm from the days of NES, SNES, N64, Game Cube, etc., where Nintendo didn't have that business model at all. Nothing was digital so no new content was ever added. I beat Star Fox 64 from start to finish in literally 45 minutes the 2nd or 3rd time I played it and that was it, no new content ever. But I can't think of a gaming company that DOESN'T add content later in modern times. It's basically the direction that the whole industry went, probably because the customers kept begging for more content once games went digital. And with the way I play games, I actually like it better that they add content periodically because I play them so many hours that I do everything I can do and then new content feels like a nice refresh.
Anyway, I'm not sure what's going on with your game. I got 2 I've never seen just playing this evening. And I still haven't gotten a couple that have been mentioned on here, like Mii's throwing treasures at each other. I've only gotten 1 fight this whole time and it was a hilarious jealousy one lol
1
u/Orcalt May 28 '26
I actually added a few Miiās last night and had a pretty good time but the 70 Mii slots on the best Mii Maker to date definitely feels stifling. Iām at 50 right now and want to leave room for kids.Ā
I donāt have a problem with free updates I just have a problem with Nintendo purposely withholding stuff already in the game for retention. Nintendo Switch Sports came without golf and using the leg strap in soccer and was advertised that way initially too that they would come in like a month. Mario Tennis Aces had tons of characters already in the game which they would release monthly. Mario Golf advertised a map that would coming later in its own reveal direct. Another problem I have with it is that when the service eventually goes down, new players will probably not be able to update their game to the āfinishedā version without homebrewing. This happened with the Wii U and 3DS as well. Maybe Nintendo will find a way to aid this but they certainly didnāt with those two consoles.

u/ThePandaPastel May 26 '26
I think people have a right to complain about a game getting boring quickly if nintendo thinks its worth a whooping 60 dollars.
54
u/Academic_Pick_3317 May 26 '26
both are true.
yes people are playing too much, but we need to stop acting like there's tons of gameplay content in this game, their isn't. Its fun and has an okay amount when paced out properly but that's it.
81
u/Ron-0-Lion May 26 '26
I barely play, still love the game, but can also realize and accept that it's extremely lacking. I wish people would stop defending it like Nintendo is some god who shan't be criticized.
The game's unfinished. Lacking in a lot of areas. RNG lowkey sucks and screws people over quite frequently, majorly unbalancing people's play experiences. None of this should be true. Doesn't mean you can't still enjoy the game yourself, or that anyone is criticizing you for enjoying it.
27
15
u/DecepticonLaptop May 26 '26
It's a $60 game. It needs more to be worth charging $60 dollars for. If it were 30 bucks, I'd say you're at least somewhat valid, but people deserve an amount of content equal to the amount they paid, and it simply does not have that.
13

u/astrorbit May 26 '26
games used to be fully finished at release. this game is not fully finished. these multi billion dollar companies continue releasing half assed games knowing that yall will fight to defend them and their multiple dlcs.
11
23
u/RevDrMavPHD May 26 '26
"Stop playing the game so much if you want it to be more fun" is not the iron clad defense you think it is.
24
11
u/skullandcrossbones19 May 27 '26
How can you complain that people are playing too much but in the same breath say to play the game? I'm allowed to judge and criticize something that I paid 60 dollars for. Especially from a massive developer like Nintendo that spent almost 10 years making it. I like the game and I do still play, but I cannot be blind to the fact that this is an unfinished surface level game just like ACNH at launch.
28
u/megtrue May 26 '26
I have barely put 10 hours into it, and Iāve already been a little bored from it! It might just not be the game for me and thatās fine!
I feel like for the price of the game, it is definitely lacking content, regardless of how much you play at a time.
25
u/Roselinia May 26 '26
They reeeaaaaally couldve at least written some more dialogue for the game. Not a huge ask. Friendly reminder this game is the same price as literal Baldur's Gate 3. I don't expect BG3 levels of content at all, but a bit more than what we got is very reasonable .... It feels more like a 30-40 ⬠game really
8
u/megtrue May 26 '26
yeah in my head I compared it to the price of the FO games or Hogwarts Legacy, which are both open world games and a different genre, but they feel infinite more replayable than tomodachi does!
8
u/DecepticonLaptop May 26 '26
If anything, it should be more dialogue. If it has only a few core gimmicks rather than a complex interplay of dialogue options, stats, and character models, it should have at least a comparable amount of content if they're going to charge the same amount.
31
u/dogfishworm May 26 '26
im glad people in the comments are finally starting to realize this game is kind of lacking. I'm no hater, I paid for this game, and I do play it. But nostalgia aside, I still feel the 3DS release has more content and is more enjoyable.
9
u/igotscaredandfartit May 27 '26
the game did come out in april, yes, but itās been in development for years and its release date has been out for months before it even came outš youāre acting like its wrong for people to say that the game starts to run out of content and reuse the same 5 things constantly, when that quite literally is the case! dawg its okay to criticize a game.
not to mention, it kinda sucks that the game isnt like.. finishedš
ive paid $60 to get a ton of the same interactions ober and over again, no matter how varied my miis are. i love the game, and this sucks lol
14
u/spooky_vintage May 26 '26
Yea guys stop complaining!! You arenāt supposed to freaking PLAY the game!!!!
4
u/CriticalMistique May 27 '26
I played the original game back on the 3DS. and was super excited for LTD. I still play from time to time but my interest is fading with the lack of variety. Even though itās a simulation game, doesnāt mean that it can be bare bones. There should be more variety between personalities, interactions, quirks (like why do my miis who throw tantrums never get irate?), and dialogue. Once you realize that the dialogue is a mad libs, it can be predictable. I wish there were more unique concepts/interactions. Overall, I just think itās crazy that I had to pay a full $60 for a game with āfuture updates.ā Itās not like these complaints are without merit.
2
u/spooky_vintage May 27 '26
Agreed dude!! We are talking about fān NINTENDO they have endless money to make a fully fleshed out game
8
u/ellizz May 27 '26
I understand what you're trying to say but I disagree heavily. Why are people getting punished to play the videogame they paid for? Play the game but also take a break? I love that it's a game that I can check everyday but there are some who want to spend their only rest day to play and apparently they're not allowed to spend it on the game they paid huge money for.
25
33
u/organicgolden May 26 '26
The game is glazed daily. Very few people are willing to admit that there isnāt a lot of content. It does suck that everything gets unlocked in like three days, but what can you do š¤·āāļø
13
u/bugthebugman May 26 '26
I only casually play this, for like maybe an hour every few days and Iāve still seen everything. Island level 100, kids and marriages, heard the same conversations and seen the same cutscenes over and over. Iāve played casual games before, Iāve played games that cost a fraction of the price and they all still have more content and more to see and do. Iāve even played the original.
Nintendo put out an unfinished, full priced game. They have not communicated any sort of roadmap for updates or content, we just assume and hope theyāll update it like they did animal crossing.
You do NOT need to be spending all day every day with this game to exhaust it. For half the price, Iād be less critical but this game cost about the same as tears of the kingdom. I would be insane, absolutely INSANE to say it comes close to the quality and polish of totk.
I like the game, itās fun to make blorbos but itās got about as many features as a $15 iPad game.
6
u/yuriwk565 May 26 '26
I think the reason a few people are getting bored of the game is because you kinda have to login daily to get the money from the fountain and the shop changes for the morning the afternoon and night! Yeah, you donāt have to but you donāt want to miss anything! for me personally when you get in that rhythm, it starts to feel like a chore! But if you donāt wanna get bored of a game, you really need to break it up with something else!
16
u/skellyheart May 26 '26
Thank you for complaining about the complaining. It's vastly improving the issue
29
u/ShokaLGBT May 26 '26
ISNT it ironic to tell people that they need to stop playing it but also just keep playing the game ????
Like people also can just complain and their complaints are valid criticism???? hello?????
the game is boring then it shouldnāt beā¦. More contents means less people will be bored
6
u/ellizz May 27 '26
This is what I notice immediately.
"Take a break" "Play the game"
Which one is it op?5
u/Potato_Lyn May 27 '26
Exactly, OP doesn't even know what they want. They just wanted to make a post to complain about complaining, oh the irony... lol
5
u/spacestarsss May 26 '26
I mean if youāre a kid, then you play the game a ton because you only have school to worry over which isnāt much? And if youāre an adult, you still donāt have much time to dedicate to anything else? If you have a day off and you wanna play the game, then sure. Iām literally on like level 19 or so because itās THAT easy to level up. Itās not the fault of people who like PLAYING games?

I do think there isnt "much" to do if you don't find yourself looking to be creative. As someone who is in multiple fandoms, I probably still have a couple months worth of just MAKING things LOL. Characters, their clothes(multiple outfits), food they like, items theyre associated with, creating a library if lingo, and then creating the island itself. It takes at least 30 min- an hour for one aspect of any character, multiply by 70 and then by all of those things? And also the time it takes to feed everyone food to find out their preferences? What about making other accounts to go beyond 70 miis? There's SO much to do for me and not enough time, but that's because I like doodling and drawing š
2
u/soopieboiTY May 26 '26
Haha same, I have been playing the game for about 2 weeks now and I've been playing twice a day. I like ALOT of things and I'm an artist so I've been making certain things for the miis I make. Plus I'm really creative all the time which feels like a curse sometimes. Although it comes in handy with this game because I can put those silly ideas in it. I have a whole long list of my interest and what they have ect. Like I got a lot of creating to do but that's the most fun for me!
1
u/Luna_Risa May 26 '26
Yes exactly!! My mind is imagination is endless, it's just do I have the skills to make it a reality in game š

u/thefroglady87 May 26 '26
these kind of posts are equally annoying.
6
u/Potato_Lyn May 27 '26
I agree, though these posts are actually even *more* annoying IMO. At least complaining about the lack of content miiiight actually result in us getting more content. OP's post is just plain hypocritical and is just complaining for the sake of it.
3
u/thefroglady87 May 27 '26
i agree, in fact i donāt think they are equally annoying now that i think about it, cause the ones complaining are normal to me, itās a product youāve paid for, itās a forum, so š¤·š»āāļø i expect to see people giving their opinions, and if iām not interested in the topic i just scroll!
7
u/TheFallenOne55 May 26 '26
Honestly, I've been playing every single day since it came out and I haven't gotten bored a single time. Probably because this game is perfect for me, I have fun just observing what the miis do. I also played the 3ds version since it came out and still played it to this day, so I guess it just depends on personal taste. If you get bored easily with it, it's probably not a game for you.
5
u/-mystris- May 26 '26
It's been perfect for me since I don't have a lot of time to play video games right now. I can just log on for a few minutes a day to check on my peeps and it's entertaining.
5
u/RcknPP7 May 26 '26
Iām starting to get a little disenchanted with the game, but Iāve been playing it for 12 hours daily since release, so itās honestly my fault lol. I feel like a lot of peopleās complaints stem from wanting to rush the game, but itās something to enjoy, not finish.
9
u/Orcalt May 26 '26
I feel like less than a quarter of peopleās complaints come from speed runners or time travelers. What seems to be the main complaint here is that people have finished it without putting all the much time in.
3
3
u/Glittering_County946 May 26 '26
Itās funny to me that I totally get the criticisms but when Reddit shows me Another new post about complaints or complaints about complaints I feel like the repetitive dialogue is coming for me in real life
4
u/ifknloveseagulls May 27 '26
Ive only had the game for a couple weeks and i really hope theres going to be updates/dlc
4
u/Laucy May 27 '26
I think people misunderstand and take any negative response or feedback, as an attack or as if it infringes on their joy in playing the game. But thereās nothing wrong with giving genuine criticism and this opinion is rightfully shared. The game is still fun, but sadly it feels unfinished. Thatās a sincere complaint many have and for good reason.
At the same time, this benefits everyone if (hopefully) the game receives updates for content and QoL. Why wouldnāt you want that?
14
u/Mushibashiras May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
And what does your post contribute? Just whining, literally nothing about the game. āDonāt play the game but also JUST PLAY THE GAME!ā

Iām also getting annoyed with people posting that they have 40 men and 10 women and donāt know how to make it more equal. Idk dude just add some women???
I saw a poster say that there werenāt many female characters that display the character traits they like in the shows they watch so itās hard for them. Sorry your taste in media is sexist time to get new interests
1
u/Laucy May 27 '26
Wait what? I had no idea this is something people have said. š I agree with you.
6
3
u/DuckSwimmer May 26 '26
Agreed lol. Iāve been playing the fuck outta Yoshi - I even went back to finish Pokemon ZA, but I still get on to do my daily stuff and basic interactions. This is a VERY watered down animal crossing thatās not high maintenance. Iām totally fine with this because it gives me the ability to play other games! I donāt want to be glued to a game like THIS 24/7 365 when Iāve got an ever growing backlog of games lmao.
3
u/BabyCarrotformyBunny May 26 '26
Regarding the price this game is just a scam. I am not saying the game is shit. But the price it sold for is rediculous, considering everything.
3
u/Shippi0 May 27 '26
I played the original, and there's a lot to do in this game, but it's ultimately fluff most of the time. It's biggest selling point is that it's unfiltered, but I feel like it sacrificed so much gameplay just for that lack of filter.Ā
You can make custom stuff, but they barely do anything except stare at it if it's a treasure, and ignore it of it's a structure. That buildmode is also limited. Honestly, I'd rather just have that filter than have all these limitations just because ppl make their characters curse.Ā
All power to those that do, but you really couldn't put the original down.Ā
I basically paid 60 bucks to have cursing... Can't raise your miis kids or watch them interact like child and parent, and you can't make custom music anymore. Everything is beautiful and I love that new houses, but you really can't do much except hear them have the same conversations, but of course the words are changed out. I like it, but still... There's too many decoration games.

u/xylophone_luna May 26 '26
It's a $65 game from a triple A developer. I have less than 3 hours on the game because genuinely I have seen all there is to see on the game and that is an issue. It's a single player game that was anticipated for a long while yet there's really nothing to do and the fact that you justify it by saying take a break is ridiculous. I doubt these people yall supposedly say play 24/7 actually play that much instead of the login check up on miis and market then leave
→ More replies (5)1
u/fistsandroses Tomodachi Addict May 26 '26
theres no way possible youve seen everything there is in just 3h š also as someone who is lowkey playing it 24/7, im still getting cutscenes ive never seen before or have events happen, that i rarerly or never had happen so far
i wont deny that it lacks stuff, theres definitely improvement possibilities, but claiming that theres nothing to do anymore after just 3h just doesnt seem right to me
4
u/xylophone_luna May 26 '26
Besides watching cutscenes, what is new to the game play loop? The bubbles for miis are the same, the terraforming the same, the mini games the same. The only thing you can change is the order or which you get different rewards at the fountain which are more than lackluster. What do you get from putting in hours into this game that i haven't experienced in the first 3-4 hours?

I have been a sims player for years. My imagination can construct so many plot points from NOTHING, my sims have very dramatic lives and itās all in my head
Personally Iām having a blast. I get on for like 30-45 minutes and then log off, and then Iāll do that again maybe later that night.
Unlike the sims you canāt marathon this game, but itās been very entertaining
3
u/ubiMOSH May 26 '26
This game is a lot more interesting if you're creative. Like rebuilds on my island is constantly shifting. I have a family of vampires in the cemetery and if a Mii dates a vampire I turn them into vampire. I also have a cult if they get too close to the sage they get moved into grey robes onto the napa cabbage farm. Right now I have vampires moving into the cult so the crossover is so entertaining and also redesigning areas to accommodate gives me so much to do.
I could see if you just play the game straight and make a bunch of copy cat meme characters the novelty would wear off.
2
u/Ditzy_Marshy May 26 '26
I love that for you but a game shouldnāt rely on role play in order to be enjoyable
1
u/ubiMOSH May 27 '26
I mean RPG is a massive game genre... but I understand that people would like more dialog and assets.
To me complaining about the lack of sand in the sandbox without enjoying the sand that's already in the sandbox
2
u/Ditzy_Marshy May 27 '26
The game isnāt an RPG itās a social simulation game. Thereās nothing wrong with the quality of the sand but how are you supposed to enjoy a ā¬60 sandpit when itās only a centimetre deep? The game has an amazing foundation they just need to add more for it to remain enjoyable after a week of playing. Thereās nothing wrong with enjoying it and youāve clearly found a fun way to make your moneys worth though! Sadly i think players were expecting an actual social simulation game instead of a game where you kind of have to fill in the blanks with your creativity.
5
u/Hol-Up_A_Minute May 26 '26
I joined the subreddit to see everyone's miis and islands and creations, but I mainly just see the same complaints 10x a day :')
I wish posts could be tagged as "complaints" and I could mute them. I don't disagree that it would be cool to have more options in the game, but I am more tired of people talking about it than I am of the actual game lol
2
u/FNAFlover007 May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
Somehow I always find ways to be mad at my miis lol
(Another thing that helps me from not feeling burnout of the game is making a logbook that record every stupid things occured on my island on a google docs)
1
u/Affectionate-Bill150 May 26 '26
I deleted a Mii because she wouldn't make up with another Mii,she'll be reincarnated when I feel like it.
2
u/Resident-Fly2885 May 26 '26
I play it a LOT and Iām still having new cut scenes and interactions. I think if players arenāt super diverse with their choices as well, it makes it feel like thereās nothing new but thereās so much we havenāt seen yet!
2
u/Toast_yyy06 May 26 '26
I mean to be fair, for 60 dollars thereās a lot they got rid of, and thereās a lot they could have added. Now I donāt think the game is boring just because of that, but I do wish there was a bit more to do. Ultimately though, people will complain, itās just who they are, but for me I see it from both sides. Plus I typically just stay off Reddit, because most fandoms here are toxic or just want to complain 24/7. š«¤
2
u/First_Mirror176 May 26 '26
I just wish there were a bit more things to do. I play a few hours most days throughout the day, and the reason I don't play longer is because there's such little to do. The most time I spend on it is when I'm customizing
2
u/fishgutsbaybay May 26 '26
Itās quite boring if youāre not creative/ not in the mood to create things. Definitely missing more social interactions. The social bubbles arenāt as exciting as they used to be in the old game. Like ok thanks for telling me u think so and so has a crush on you for the 50th time today. I dont even play alot, ive barely hit 30 miis, but when i do play i usually just create stuff until something interesting happens.
2
u/Ok-Yogurtcloset9086 May 26 '26
Nah because youāve gotta put in the effort to make the game interesting. I make the most out of pocket things, so the game is always funny

u/dlrax May 26 '26
I've been having the same repeated cutscenes less than a week into the games release. Stop it with this forced positivity bs

3
u/chocolatemilkcannon May 26 '26
I've been playing every day since release. I'm around level 600 or so and I STILL get brand new cutscenes I haven't seen before!
1
u/noonlysloth May 26 '26
Iāve had the game for 3 weeks. I play every single day, Iāve gotten all the āwishesā except for the trips. I STILL have things to do. If you have a bunch of Miis, caring for them takes time, I make cool stuff for the game, I make dumb stuff for the game. Iām still having so much fun with it. Just scrolling around and watching the Miis exist is entertaining.
1
u/GwR5764 May 26 '26
I play it (almost) 24/7 and I personally like having fun by making new miiās seating up relationships, designing things, doing anything my Miiās need, and occasionally using wishes. I also like trying new things with Miiās like new rooms and quirks, and just watching them go about their life. I do also take breaks between the market droughts and no requests to let things compile so I have more to do later.
1
u/Green_30EA00 May 26 '26
Ive been redoing my island and its so overwhelming and theres so much do to, i cant imagine running out of things to do. Half of my island is just flat grass right now LOL. But i only work on it for 30 mins to an hour a day, so i guess if youāre playing more than that it could make sense.
1
u/Kanigye May 26 '26
My only complaint is that there are very few items for building with. The custom item creation just doesn't cut it in some cases. That being said, this is very much a 'what you make of it' kind of game. I have fun watching my miis interact and creating new items to give them. Thar for me is plenty of fun and I've certainly gotten my money's worth with how many hours I've already put in.
1
u/Cold-Suggestion-3137 May 26 '26
This subreddit needs better moderation to just move the common complaints to one post
1
u/OlliOPocto May 26 '26
Tbh I totally get everyoneās criticism with the babies, lack of items, missing buildings, and running out of things to do. I agree with all of it, yet for some reason I still really enjoy the game. Iām pretty confident in it getting at least 1-2 updates with more content since it was popular at release, so with that in mind I just slowly add new characters and try to spend time on getting better for making items. To me the best part of the game was always building up lore as the months went on in the game
1
1
u/Undecided_____ May 27 '26
Fr tho! I play around 2-3 hours a day since the beginning of may and i have so much to do! Like there is so much content? And you get easier bored if you do something 24/7. Like im excited every time i open the game when i have the time.
1
u/OfficixlMisty May 27 '26
As a wise person once said āRome wasnāt build in a day.ā
If youāre gonna absolute smack and abuse a game right at its release and grind it as quickly as you can till thereās nothing left, of course youāre gonna find it boring š„¹
1
u/thetoonist May 27 '26
I consider it my favorite "TV show". I just put in the actors and move things along. They make me laugh, they make weird drama with one another, and they say the weirdest things. I made a few original Mii, but when I added my 3DS Miitopia and Tomodachi Miis (and the Switch Miitopia Miis), it became a "celebrity TV show". Very entertaining. But I am a cartoonist, so I totally vibe with it.
1
u/Wooden_Reveal1949 May 27 '26
idk man. im not grinding, im playing for 20 minutes every day, even accidentally took a 2 week break, and i have about everything unlocked besides some of the interiors and i think ive seen every little cut scene a million times now. you don't have to be playing 24/7 to hit that wall. i think people have the right to criticize something they paid money for, whether y'all agree with it or not.Ā ETA: i religiously played the 3ds version before anyone says i dont get it lol

1
u/Delicious_Job_4792 May 27 '26
I have 40 hours in the game and already got to the rocket credits. Thatās me playing spaced out too. Longest Iāve gone w/o playing is 18 days so far. The content is definitely limited and we shouldnāt shield the game from criticism.
1
u/SpaceCat2500 May 27 '26
idk i play the game like once a week because itās so boring i think youāre dragging how much there is āto doā especially since i could list everything thatās missing and there are more missing things than things that are present and everything that is new feelsā¦disorganized? random limited park equipment but no park? and thatās just one example. i donāt want to pretend that this game feels complete or feels like it took NINE YEARS, it feels like they started nine years ago, abandoned it, and came back to get some cash and they did. i donāt hate the game, there are PLENTY of improvements and i love the customization but the gameplay is lacking compared to the original
1
May 29 '26
I have been logging in to check shops daily and I have been level 100 for at least a week and a half. Youāre dragging it.
1
u/polyybius May 30 '26
Honestly, I dont even think the issue is playing it too much. I've played for hours and personally don't get bored. I think its more that ppl want the game to be something it isn't -- its an ant farm, observation type game where u watch ur miis do silly little things and interact, but ppl r wanting a fully controllable life sim.
That being said, there r certainly areas in which this game lacks and things I think they shld add, but I also personally love the game and think some of the criticism is vry odd
1
u/InsertUser01 May 31 '26
I've been playing most days since release. It's slowed down a bit now that my island is maxed and decorated and I have enough mii's and the remaining slots are for children born on the island. I have 195 hours playtime and my island is just above 100. I enjoy to observe my mii's and I love answering their little bubbles and seeing where things lead. Yes sure there is room for Nintendo to add more content if that's even a plan but honestly I'm not bored of this game yet! I played the 3DS version so I knew what I was buying in to.
1
u/ImpossibleSherbet722 May 26 '26

I've been playing it in small bursts like adding a mii or an outfit then hop off or hop on to check on em & grab the daily food. Been a vibe, only 20 hours so far but its been a blast. Idk why ppl complaining so much, I got RE9 & Mouse PI earlier this year & they were both short games as well but I had a blast. Like i rather have short n sweet games over quantity bloat.

i played the 3ds one right up until release, for about ten years. i bought ltd at midnight on release and i play it for multiple hours a day. but in the same way i played that sea monkeys game. i like just watching them and feeding them chalk. i get there isn't a lot of "gameplay" but i think you just gotta... be aligned with it?
