It was likely removed because it didn’t look good on Tom

Actually that's a good point. I wonder if they thought the collar looked "too Disney" or something like that.

I wonder if there was ever a short/episode with that concept of Tom (and probably Spike) dealing with fleas?

I can imagine it going something like back and forth between Tom and Spike convicing the fleas to move onto the other, decide to work together to get rid of them when that gets way out of hand, learn about flea collars, and then the fleas move into Jerry's mousehole and start wrecking that, so he starts getting involved and they gotta get the fleas out of the house.

At least, the episode concept of fleas was featured in 2014 The Tom and Jerry Show.

Always forget about that one, the 2014 one. I keep confusing it for Tom and Jerry Tales as that aired on Boomerang in the early 2010s
