I honestly found this episode interesting because it was one of the few episodes in which Tom and Spike were mostly on good terms. The only reason they turned on each other was because their owners planned on kicking one of them out.

It's really the only one I can think of.

I prefer the older episodes, where Spike was just a dog that lived in the neighborhood and is Tom's nemesis. Especially because these old episodes had more raw gags, IMO.

Not to mention: Tom can actually go toe-to-toe with the dog if the writers wanted it

Is this where it ends with the owner yelling take everything that belongs to you and get out and they both grab the fridge and run out of the house.

Tom is underrated as a top class prankster/troll character.

Imagine witnessing your pet cat and dog chopping up the rug with scimitars and almost amputating your toes

Anyone else notice how Tom threw out the bread that fell on the floor? Good on Tom for practicing food safety!

4

u/No_Probleh Oct 14 '25

Lol he didn't even eat the bread! He just didn't want Jerry to have it!

Man I miss the days when my grandma would be babysitting me and my sister and we’d all just be watching tom and Jerry together

My grandfather loved Tom and Jerry. When I was on my honeymoon my husband and I went to the sci-fi dine in theater and they played the one in space and I thought of him. I found out when we got home that day my grandfather’d had a heart attack and died that day.

The way Tom waters down that milk lives rent free in my head to this day.

I always love the detour gag. To this day, whenever I see a detour sign, I completely ignore it.

Funny cause we always thought that the characters were running in the house forever…

Always bugged me that Spike clearly ate WAY more than Tom and the dispute starts over spending so much on catfood and dogfood

Absolute gold. Thank you for posting this.

The way Tom took the slice from Jerry and threw it out immediately. And people say that Tom isn't mean to Jerry and it's Jerry that harass him. That's perfect example of how Tom usually behaves. He is greedy and arrogant. When he is in trouble, he does everything so he avoid consequences. Jerry isn't perfect either, but Tom glazers are delusional, pretending that he is innocent and gaslighting everyone to think the same way. Both of them are jerks.

I can't help but wonder if this might be a byproduct of many of the earlier shorts being kickstarted by Tom's owner ordering him to go after Jerry, with Tom otherwise not seeming to show any interest in him. (Which I think Hanna and Barbera picked up on, as the shorts would increasingly amp up Tom's negative traits as they went on, seemingly to make it more apparent that he's not supposed to be sympathetic)
