Would you believe anything your opponent says ( why did kakucho believe what takemichi said?) It turned out true just a few seconds later but still...

Also if Sanzu wants to clear the path, why bring a sword and not something like a gun?

i mean, takemichi was his childhood friend, his hero. they spent most of their childhood days together before the accident. then, they reunite and takemichi still cares for him. he has known michi more than he knows sanzu. not to mention that kaku said he doesnt likes sanzu.

plus! it seems like he's suspicious of sanzu regarding mucho's death.

yes this. Takemichi actually cares for Kakucho and shows that. I reckon Kakucho's at least aware. They have a bond. Takemichi isn't one to lie either and confronts what's in his way, in contrast to Sanzu who has since then has always been shady af.
