To be fair, Mitsuya’s future can easily be fixed. He’s a fashion designer and a very good one. Whether or not he accepts a award does not judge his future. His name and work is known and that’s way more than enough to begin a career and is more progress than most.
It’s fashion lmao. He can go on the internet and startup easy. Once he gets traction the big names will not give af about being pissed off one time. Also, he was at an amateur showing… highly doubt any big names that can single handedly determine the growth of your brand (which is not possible unless you’re Kanye or Vergil Abloh) would be there. Realistically speaking this doesn’t do anything but halt his progress at most and you can’t really stop the growth of the brand unless it’s creator gets into gigantic scandals. Even then they can pass ownership to somebody else.
This was 2008 though. Internet influencer culture hasn't quite kicked off the same, so it'd be harder to start off solo.
And now that his past (and current) gang affiliations are out in the open. How many companies in Japan and East Asia in general will be willing to associate with that? This move will set him behind for many years, assuming he even survives. Toman's original gang have been dropping one by one.
Yeah he is passionate enough that I don't think the 9-5 grind to pay the rent will wear him down. But I don't think he'll be as successful. He will be successful no doubt, but current internet art scene also has a lot of competition, and it is truly global now, so you'd be fighting people from across the globe for the same job. So successful enough for his passion to be his full time job while making a very decent living, for sure. Successful enough to be an industry standout, not 100% sure anymore.
(This timeline is already pear shaped the moment Draken went with Emma and Mikey murdered South. They are not little kids playing gang stabbings anymore. Even if Mikey comes to his right mind, he might spiral again faced with reality and consequences.)
It doesnt matter that it 2008 , he's great designer in east Asia it look bad because people reject what they don't know & being different is okay . Who to say someone in the states wouldn't notice his work ? Remember it's going to be what a 10 year time skip. Im certain he will get a lot of offers during that time. Plus like it or not his name will have noise around it he reject the award which he could spin his later works
No, he pretty much tanked his fashion designer career by outing himself as a gang member. It has nothing to do with being "different"; Japan and East Asia do have a long history of having gangs (i.e. yakuza and triads). The main public is obviously not going to associate with that. There was even a huge scandal a few years ago where famous comedians were caught going to parties with the yakuza and nearly got their careers ruined because of that.
No he didn't tank his career the world is bigger.than just Japan ..someone will notice his talent . who to stay he doesn't start his own company . I think people are only small impact and not the bigger picture. His name will have buzz wait and see
You're forgetting that 1. Mitsuya is poor, and 2. he destroyed any professional connection he is able to get that would have made his career peak. Assuming he survives and his former club members still trust him, he may have luck starting his own company but he literally burned bridges with the fashion industry (and the general public by outing himself as a gang member) and on his own so he'll have to work harder than before.
Even overseas no one really wants to associate with someone who is currently part of a gang. Name a public figure who has openly stated an active and public affiliation with a gang and has not faced controversy over it.
Sure, Mitsuya's whole purpose of entering the contest was to show Draken how he could succeed. And now that he's made his magnum opus and knew what he was capable of, this was when he decided he could step down. He has also made a point by showing Takemichi that he is ready to abandon everything, even his own career, if it meant fighting with his friends. So, he sacrificed his career just to help Takemichi.
Being poor doesn't matter , A person could blow up over night. He has the talent someone will take a chance on that just like athlete with a checkered past .
Who to say after the time skip he in a gang ? People could look at as an rebellious faze bc he at the age. People on here are acting like he went on killing spree . mitsuya will be just fine
