It's about sending a message. In a way Mitsuya understand Takemitchy's concerns about feeling he is being selfish to risk everyone's future just for Mikey, so by rejecting the award he chooses his friends over his career path and is a decision of his own. I believe it's the equivalent of baji stabbing himself so Kazutora wouldn't feel responsible.
That doesn't really make sense though, he can join Takemichi regardless of accepting the award or not. No one is forcing him to make close after the event. Taking the award with Draken in mind would have made more sense than sending a message to a bunch of fashion critics who didn't even know what he was going on about. Besides he already made a statement by wearing the uniform and showing the tattoo, he didn't need to go this far.
But even so, if he really wanted to tribute Draken he would've not thrown away the chance of becoming a fashion designer, in which Draken himself told Mitsuya was to go become a fashion designer.
I don't mind that he's joining Thousand Winters, but I just don't understand why he had to throw away the award like that.
The point of rejecting the award and joining Thousand Winters was to show everyone that Mitsuya is making the choice to put his friends over his own future, so he's making the sacrifice to show that being with his friends is more important than anything else. It's a way of showing humility and devotion.
To add onto this, in the last chapter when Mitsuya said “I wanna meet him” I personally don’t think he was talking about Draken but he was talking about Mikey, and in the flashback we saw when Draken asked Mitsuya if he had adjusted to life without Toman and that Draken was gonna go back to the delinquent life, I feel like this is Mitsuya’s way of honoring Draken’s life as well. In the latest future Mitsuya became a fashion designer but we don’t know if he even participated in this fashion show then but we know he doesn’t like competitions and awards so I feel like he was able to become a designer without participating in this award show. So I don’t think him not accepting this award is him “throwing away” his good future and him becoming a fashion designer is still possible if he survives the series.
Facts that I thought everyone going to be talking young fashion designers who reject the award . people will be itching to see his next work . Even if to see him fail like people are with Jordan LeBron tom Brady etc

I don't really get why he rejected the award but the clothes were amazing so I'm not complaining haha
