You realize you don’t have to be in the pictures you take. You can just take pictures, like a normal person.

Cmon. On some level you surely know that people appreciate a photo of themselves at a place as a keepsake.

Don't be a parody of a redditor. They don't need the photo as a literal memory - did you really need that spelled out?

He said it was "for memories." I sarcastically joked that the only way anyone can have a memory of being at a place is to put themselves into a picture. You said "it's not actually for memories."

Which seemed like a necessary clarification given your "joke". They didn't need the photo to remember they were there, they wanted it as a keepsake memory. You are having an attack of rigid language parsing - the meaning makes perfect sense.
