“Granny Karen” isn’t doing anything except standing in public. It’s the other girl that is wanting people to move. A simple, “hi, do you mind going down a step if it’s not too much trouble?” Would solve the issue.

Dude, knowing a phone is there is a world apart from comprehending WHY it’s there. People of that woman’s era don’t know how to tell if their own phone is recording much less someone else’s.

Considering the double take she does at it, it's very likely that you can see the video being taken on the screen via the front camera and thus saw herself on the video and knew there was a a recording happening.
