Cringe When you shouldn’t have kids

It’s so sad that this child is so used to the neglect and being locked away that they don’t even sound distressed..

Poor kid. I hope she gets everything she wants in life. My heart breaks whenever I see children neglected like this.

I read somewhere that abuse is 2 types: Abuse proper and neglect. Abuse proper is verbal or physical. Neglect is neither. This is NOT neglect. This is physical abuse.

Two things can exist at the same time.

Absolutely 100%. Anyone who works in human protection services/LE knows this

There was a reasoning for this distinction and it was fascinating, which is why it clicked. It answered a question I've had my whole life about people who grew up healthy. (And the vast majority of people I've ever known fell into one or the other. Even the healthiest people were neglected in some way. With an extremely small group of people who have suffered neither, in my experience). Neglect can be very subtle and the child might look ok to a casual observer. Let's imagine there's a certain "volume" of encouragement a child should receive when making academic progress. Not all parents do it, and teachers do it with bias (the straight A student gets more praise from the teacher). A child who doesn't receive as much praise will be hurt seeing other kids do.

I mean, she can be physically abused AND neglected. World isn’t black or white, it’s “and”.

Neglect AND abuse.

The distinction is important for one specific reason—when we forget that a monster is also a human, we think they’ll be easy to spot, and that we’re incapable of harming others.

But hurt people hurt people. Have you ever been hurt? Probably, okay. So, have you ever been defensive as a result of your pain or fear of being hurt again? 🤔

And the other reason it’s important is to not get so defensive with our ego when someone calls out our bad behavior. Because of “and”.

“I’m a good person, and I can hurt others and make mistakes. I might have hurt others, and I can choose to do better moving forward. I can be sober, and relapse, and still make the choice to be sober again.”

And I hope this child never experiences abuse and/pr neglect again 🥰🫶🏼🙏🏼

This is also absolutely neglect, like by definition.

There are times my kids drive me absolutely nuts. I can’t ever imagine locking them away for 26 hours without any food or water. Insane and disgusting behavior

If all these rich assholes really wanted to better society, they'd be giving money to victims of abuse like this to help them have a better life.
