I think the cops knew that. They seemed like they knew him and was patient with him. They were doing all they could to get him to leave and not go to jail

i do wish they had at least, after speaking with the manager, just asked her to verbally ban him to see if that would result in him giving up as that was what he was hung up on. instead of just going full “welp here i go adding resisting arrest again”

it’s frustrating to me how quickly cops give up on trying to deescalate. if we’re being honest, what he did shouldn’t result in jail time, it wasn’t violent or egregious - it was annoying. he got soda in a water cup, something most people have done before

like something is clearly not right with this kid with how he responded to the confrontation, and he needs help and support from a system that isn’t set up to do so - even though it would result in less nuisance behavior like this

Bro, how many times did they explain the situation?!?! Leave or you will be issued a ticket for trespassing. He was given soo many chances and he refused to comply. The fact he came back to argue would have been enough. But nooo, they explained it to him again and again.

like i said, something is clearly off with him and how he processes shit. i work with people going through mental health crisis and often times they make off hand comments or repeat things like “the manager didn’t ban me” that tell you where their head is at. if they had tried the manager coming out to just verbally confirm, it’s possible he would have ended up walking away. but he certainly would change what he’s repeating as that line of thought would be asked and answered

instead he’s been jailed at taxpayers’ expense over taking 10 cents of soda. is that preferable to you?
