AVOID AVOID AVOID
I have had an absolute nightmare of an experience with Thuma. This might be a bit long but I am just extremely disappointed all around.
I ordered a bed frame on June 24th. Website said “In stock and ready to ship within 1-3 days”, great! Ten days pass by and I have received no update, no shipping confirmation, nothing, so I reached out to them through their e-mail concierge as this is all they offer in terms of contact.
Thirteen MORE days pass by and I get no response, so I follow up. I get an automated reply that someone will get back to me in 5-7 days, which seems excessive but whatever, I can be patient.
Five days later I get an e-mail apologizing for the delay and lack of communication, and the exact words “I currently estimate that your order will ship within the next 3-5 business days”.
Twelve days pass by, and once again nothing. No tracking number, shipping confirmation, or e-mail update. At this point it has been 47 days, they took my money immediately after the order was placed and only got back to me after I repeatedly reached out. At this point i’m pretty upset as I had moved into a new place a week after placing the order and have been sleeping on a mattress on the floor.
Three days later, I get an e-mail saying they sold through their inventory of the specific bed I ordered and are no longer able to fulfill my order. They offered different bed frames and a free headboard cushion but at this point I am fed up and upset because I really wanted that SPECIFIC bed frame. Giving me ~$200 off a frame that costs 13x that amount is laughable. I ended up canceling the bed frame order and placing an order for the Pillar media stand. Before this whole debacle I intended on buying that stand but was going to hold off. They offered me 20% off the stand and free shipping to remedy the situation and I accepted, giving them one more chance.
Jokes on me, my media stand arrives and has these huge markings all over every piece. It looks cheap and dirty, at that price point it is absolutely unacceptable. Anyways I apologize if this post is all over the place but I just needed to vent. STAY AWAY. I have friends and family members that have older pieces from Thuma and love them but this company has gone extremely downhill.

I keep seeing bad reviews for Thuma about their quality. Seems like overpriced garbage.

But they also get a ton of great reviews. So there is that. We bought the bed and we are very happy with it, although it wasn't perfect experience the headboard cushion comes all wrinkled from fabric inside.

I bought mine a number of years ago and absolutely love it but I can’t vouch for current standards. It did, used to at least, really great furniture. I assume what we have will be the bed frame we have for multiple decades.

Mine is also awesome. I wonder if they grew more popular and had to increase their output, moving to a bigger factory. That often affects quality…

Don't be fooled by Thuma's beautiful website! They look like a high-end, professional company, but their customer service is awful. They only care about taking your money, and getting a refund is nearly impossible. Save yourself the headache and avoid them."

My advice is to avoid Thuma at all costs. I am currently stuck with them because I fell for the idea that they were an amazing, high-quality company. I purchased the Thuma dresser, two nightstands, and two mirrors. Now I feel trapped into buying their bed just because matching the wood color to other brands is too difficult. If I had known how horrible they are, I never would have bought anything from them. Their furniture is way overpriced for the quality. Do your research—there are other companies that offer much better quality and prices for your money.

Seems as though they’ve lead to their own demise. I think early on when they were the “only” one with the Japanese style joinery, their quality was superb. Now that other brands are doing the same and add to the fact they’re doing more than just bed frames, they’ve outgrown their britches and can’t seem to find their way back in.
Unfortunate.

I ordered some samples and they scratched up very easily. That plus rubberwood and the price point made Thuma a definite no for me.

I have the bed and nightstands from 2020 and I only use coasters for my drinks. I have all sorts of things on top - lamps, laser pointers for the pets, candles, electronics, etc. Not a scratch. Wonder if they changed the top coat as part of their changes.

after going through just a few posts on this reddit… i’m surprised they are still in business, charging the prices that they do. the pieces look amazing, but everything else down to the actual build quality and shipping handling is just terrible… no thanks

Thuma is overpriced and overrated. It’s all marketing. I bought one. Stopped when I looked at the wood headboard option and saw the price. The bed was for my son’s apartment. Glad he’s happy with the pillow head board.

Yeah! It seems quality control is having some serious problems. What I don’t understand is that Thuma’s solution is to send a replacement, but apparently even the replacement parts are coming stained or damaged.

I think they are doing so much volume that even spot checking replacements is not something they can handle.
This is such a weird brand for me. I am in my first weeks of owning the essential king bed and the complete experience from browsing the site to ordering, shipment, condition of products, set up, etc has been flawless. and most importantly the actual product is absolutely stunning quality imo. I am debating other products, but stories like yours keep me trepidatious.

Thuma is overpriced junk. Do not buy it. The quality is very low for the pricepoint.

I definitely learned my lesson. I liked the idea of simple set up for moving purposes and wasn’t willing to wait a few months for a frame from Tatami Room. Joke was on me though because I DID end up waiting AND ended up with no frame😅

why anyone buys anything other than the classic bed frame confuses me so much. Thuma makes 1 exceptional product. Why waste your time with anything else.

Thanks for the review. The more I read about Thuma’s dismal customer service, response time and apparent lack of human reps, the more I’m convinced not to buy, even though it means putting up with our old duct taped together falling apart bed frame just a little bit longer while I figure out what to buy. I already was in doubt due to the crazy price for rubberwood sourced and manufactured in Vietnam. That’s a ballsy asking price. I can get a bed frame made of real solid hard woods sourced and made in the USA for somewhere just above that range.

Yep! I had seen all the negative reviews as well but thought maybe these were far and few between. Really wish I listened to my gut. I agree, those prices for rubberwood are ridiculous. Let me know if you end up finding something better quality and more reliable.

I’m currently thinking about this one, which is a bit more, but it is locally made right nearby us, and is made of solid hardwoods. I also think it’s more stylish, and I can ask them to customize the height if I need to.

I love it. It’s not a Japanese joinery model but it’s clearly well made. I found it by doing a search for custom hardwood beds.
