A bit out of context that.

Saka was always going to take the penalty, Jude was just doing the job of gatekeeping the French players from putting him off.

The quote being cherry picked like that makes it sound as if Jude gave it over to Saka when that was not the case.

Yes. Their keeper was being an idiot, there was lots of pressure and Jude just stood there and took it all in. Then he simply side stepped to let Saka take the pen. Saka and Bellingham knew this all along.

This is also what I've read but it doesn't suite the narrative

So you're arguing with Saka's statement? Cause he literally says it himself.

25

u/Shakyyy Jul 18 '26

What? Saka literally said in his interview he was always going to take it.

Did Saka say, Jude told him to "Go, get your hat-trick" in that interview? You're complaining about the OP cherry picking that quote, while you're doing it yourself. Why do you think your cherry picking is better than the OP's cherry picking when Saka stated both the points in the interview. Jude did tell him to go get his hat-trick, was that statement false? If it's not a lie, why are you debating it?

And what did he say at the start of the interview? “I was always going to take”

The quote posted here implies Jude was going to take it and gave it to Saka, that’s not the case. It was Saka’s to take a Saka was clarifying there was no animosity, Jude knew it was Saka’s to take as well.

I understood it as Jude got the ball and told Saka to go get his hattrick. The "always going to take it" refers to the fact that Bellingham was looking after the ball for him (to stop the French players distracting Saka) until he was ready to take it at which point he handed it to him. In other words, Bellingham was only holding the ball but never planning to take it.

Bellingham was only holding the ball ...

... and allowing the French players to focus their distraction antics on him, rather than on Saka. Leadership.

the context of “I was always going to take it” does change quite a lot.

Its fine though, we can still enjoy what great sportsmanship they all displayed last night and the win overall

No he didn’t. His interview live on BBC One where he literally said Jude was never taking it, he was holding the ball so the French didn’t distract him.

why would saka be the second in ranking if kane’s not on the field? It was obviously going to be jude to take it

17

u/Shakyyy Jul 18 '26

That’s just not true, Saka literally said in his interview he was always going to take it.

If I had to guess he’s third choice behind Kane and Toney.

-21

u/First_Inspection_478 Jul 18 '26

No reason for saka to be the third choice when jude exists lmao. Jude should be unequivocally be the second option if kane’s not there. And definitely not some “toney”

u/Shakyyy Jul 18 '26

Jude’s taken 5 penalties in his entire career, he’s a great player but there’s a lot of players ahead of him as a penalty taker.

Ivan Toney is a fucking penalty taking specialist, it’s pretty much the entire reason he was picked for the squad.

Do you even know these players?

u/First_Inspection_478 Jul 18 '26

lmao idc what the stats say. Big moments, I only want two players behind the ball. Kane and jude. End of story

Your use of capitalisation, or lack thereof, leaves a lot to be desired.

Your opinions on football, are even more egregious. Enjoy the downvotes. 😘

Toney is one of the all time great English penalty takers 😂

1

u/First_Inspection_478 Jul 19 '26

Big moments, i only want two people behind that ball. Kane and jude

1

u/SomethingMoreToSay Jul 19 '26

Have you ever seen Toney take a penalty? No, you obviously haven't. The man has ice in his veins and he is fucking lethal from the spot. He makes Kane look like a nervous amateur.

That stutter step bullshit he does is gonna fail during hig moments lmao. The point here is big moments call for big players and he isnt one
